HTFU: CCP’s Hip Hop Video

By Jim Rossignol on October 7th, 2009 at 8:33 am.

Permaband. Do you see? A clever joke there. Eve Online operators CCP seem to have no fear of getting up on stage to strut their stuff, and they seem to have taken that habit to its logical extreme in this video, a rap about running an MMO and having studios on three continents.

‘We can’t fall, gravities just a theory’ (or words to that effect)

    Excellent.

More companies need to try this, also governments, I want to see Comrade Brown busting his moves with the back benches throwing some ‘cool and hip’ moves on Prime Minister’s Questions. Just to show they’re down with the kids.

It was awesome to see them perform this live at the “Party at the Top of the World” for Fanfest, and the first showing of the video during the presentations was equally awesome.
CCP once again prove they’re crzy, but in a very good way. <3

I hope I can go to FF next year, even if it's just for stuff like this.

  7. Wait, was that Oveur as techno viking?

ARGGH!!! MY EYES! So many pasty white bodies.

Anyway, CCP, like Valve, are just one of those companies that rock. Having fun and giving a damn about the community, is it really that hard?

Woop! Woop! It’s da space police.

This is truly a work of genius. CCP have always been crazy, but I think their PR people are getting better at broadcasting their particular Icelandic brand of craziness to the rest of the world.

    Oveur clearly has no shame.

    Yiiiiikes. Them Icelanders are mad.

Of course, “the scene” could use a west coast / east coast glacier-studded northern island smack war.

Eagerly awaiting Blizzard’s Korean-animated orient-o-pop vid! (And if they’re too busy laughing-all-the-way-to-the-bank, I’ll settle for Valve making “Meet Da Posse”.)

It’s not ‘hurry the fuck up’. It’s ‘harden the fuck up’. It’s from this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1EY7lYRneHc

I just love the attitude. It might look a bit immature or juvenile, but things like this and the ridiculous jokes in their presentations (the constant usage of the word ‘fuck’) / dev-blogs etc is just amazing. Of course, it’s a commercial company and all that, but they do invest a lot in their games in a rather visionary way. You’re never sure what’s going to happen in the future, but I’m quite positive that in 10-20 years the EVE universe will (still) be world’s biggest serious meta-game and will actually have grown immensely.

  16. Joras says:

I love CCP so much as a company. Over the last couple of years they’ve finally gotten to a point where the only people they answer to is their customers. No public investors, no VCs they’re constantly begging for money, no board of stuffy shirts that could put porridge to sleep.

As as a result, CCP’s realized that the only people who matter are a group of gamers that love internet spaceships and laugh at lolcats, and that’s really given them the freedom to get away from the standard corporate facade and act like what they are: a group of gamers with a ton of money. As a result, you get amazing things. Like the EVE PvP Tournament and this video.

Keep in mind that we’re the people making all this happen for CCP. In fact, if more game developers go independent, we have every right to expect and demand this level of coolness from the companies that make our games. Companies like EA have to answer to a board of directors voted by the shareholders (many of whom have never even played a single game) and thus will never be able to truly be part of the gaming community. For a financially-independent private company like CCP, we should learn to expect nothing less.

This is what i love about CCP, they started with the silleh vids last year and they are not afraid to have a laugh.

Also something else they did was another little vid with Oveur as an intro to him taking the stage and a play on his legendary love of booze.

    /me hugs CCP

Ha, watch the one and a half hour video of their Fanfest Keynote that they posted on their youtube channel.
You’ll instantly understand how this video came to be. Their videos are hilarious and wacky-crazy.
A completely ridiculous and awesome bunch of nerds, they are. Strange, strange sense of humor, but it works really well for them. I just renewed my EVE subscription for a full year :O and I fully believe that they’ll continue to be awesome and make EVE awesome for that year and more. They got me.
