Of course I've beaten most of those ^^. And btw the original works fine with DOSBox, no problems whatsoever, and even on plain XP if you give up on sound (which you don't want to...) I think it was better than the "micromachine" racers from the same period because you could see a little further ahead so you weren't relying so much on memorising the track to do well.
