The thing I really liked about Dooms movement is that it has some serious inertia. At full speed, you actually have a pretty wide turning circle.

And on servers with jumping enabled, bunnyhopping can get you moving at absolutely hilariously excessive speeds - faster than your own rockets, even.

Hm.. this might be the thing that makes me switch from ZDaemon to Skulltag, looks very good!

One thing many people forgot about DooM: It is so damn fast! The closest comparison would be Quake 3/Live.. except that everyone would spawn with Quad and Haste. :-)

I play this every day at school during lunch. 3v3 CTF is insane, probably because of how fast everyone runs.

Eh, I always preferred Doom Legacy.

That's what we used to play on the school computers, anyway. Ran like a charm and we rocked house in Dead Simple.

I'd throw Scythe 2 into the mix, and while not exactly a 'megawad', Deus Vult 2 is pretty goddamn impressive.

Multiplayer is all well and good, and Doom multiplayer is still tremendous fun if bloody difficult, that's only half the game. There have been MANY "megaWADs" released that have raised the bar of Doom mapping. Those of you that prefer the single player aspect, seek out:

Plutonia 2
Super Sonic Doom
The Ultimate Torment & Torture
New Doom Community Project 2
Claustrophobia 1024

Ahh, Skulltag. Finest of the DOOM source ports. I've been using it along with OBLIGE (http://oblige.sourceforge.net/) to randomly generate single-player campaigns. OBLIGE supports Skulltag's new monsters and weapons, too, so it kinda feels like playing a DOOM sequel that is to DOOM II what DOOM II was to DOOM.

Which is to say, "a couple new things." But it's unreasonably entertaining!

I would beg to differ on that point. To me the game seems clunky and repetitive today.
