GSW TF2 Propaganda Poster Round-Up. Yes!

By Kieron Gillen on December 16th, 2009.

A quick one on this, as it’s just fun. You may know Valve are running a propaganda poster compo for the current Soldier/Demo-man war. The winners will be around eventually, but Game Set Watch has done a round-up of some of their faves. Go gawk. We should start demanding icons of Horace the Endless Bear be offered unto us. Oh – the image I’ve used for the top image is Flufflesthepancake’s “Tf2- Propaganda Poster”. Hurrah! And go Soldiers!

Vroomosity: New Need For Speed Shift Demo

By Kieron Gillen on December 16th, 2009.

Vroom!

Games with cars. As far as I’m concerned, none were released this year. Why? Because I didn’t play any. Except those which involve shooting whilst driving in cars, and they don’t count, because guns are more important than cars in terms of ludographic taxonomy. So here isn’t a second demo of a game which didn’t come out this year, which doesn’t include a car which wasn’t in the first demo. And that car isn’t called a Falken Tire Porsche GT3 RSR. You can’t get this non-existant demo from here, find out about a 10 dollars off voucher for EA’s store to buy it over here or watch footage beneath the cut.

Fallen Earth: Befallen A 10-Day Trial

By Jim Rossignol on December 16th, 2009.

The post-apocalyptic MMO is touting it wares to all and sundry with a ten-day trial and 20% off the purchase price. The game has been noted as being both flawed and interesting, which is why I’m going to having a look at it myself over Christmas. I’ll probably see some of you in there. Meanwhile, go read Phill’s impressions of it for a dram of what it’s like.

The Games Of Christmas: December 16th

By RPS on December 16th, 2009.

Poor old Optimus.
It’s the dark mouth of our seasonally festive advent-o-calendar we descend. What quirks lie beyond? And will we be able to tunnel our way through to a brighter future? Only time will tell. That, and some help from the pointy-hands of the one true leader of the Autobots.

And Now: C&C4 Video With Stuff Explained

By Jim Rossignol on December 16th, 2009.

Want to know what C&C4 looks like in play? You’ll be wanting no longer, thanks to the rabid newshounds of VG247, who have sniffed out a five-minute video with developer commentary. I’ve posted said video below. It’s all game footage. So go take a look, and then slam your fist on the beer-swollen counter of the internet, registering your drunken demands in the comments section, before toppling backwards off your bar-stool and into the heaps of discarded, useless metaphors littering the floor below.

Games For Windows Live Relaunches, Again

By Alec Meer on December 16th, 2009.

Nothing brightens up a PC gamer’s day like news about Games For Windows Live. If Microsoft revealed they were going to harvest every person on Earth’s left eyeball, we’d probably still not be as pissed off as we are about the continue existence of their unreliable, unnecessary bloatware – which a frightening number of ignorant publishers and developers are still insisting on tacking onto their games to save a few quid. Yet Microsoft persists in trying to fix the unfixable. The latest release of the GFWL client adds something the console boys have had for a while – a games on demand store. Like Steam, Direct 2 Drive, Gamersgate, Getgames, the EA store… They’re absolutely right: there is room in the market for yet another games download client. We’ve all been begging for one, right?

Your Morning Stupid: Find Eldorado

By John Walker on December 16th, 2009.

So familiar.

Or to give it its full name, Fuck Oregon Let’s Go Find El Dorado. It’s an entry to Ludum Dare, a bare-minimum side-scrolling pixel jobbie, and – in the loosest sense possible – inspired by Oregon Trail. Except this time you’re jumping mountains. Using the physics that the young people are so excited by, you must reach El Dorado while preserving food, and indeed the health of your family by not landing your cart upside down. Starve to death and it’s game over. It’s brilliantly silly, and oddly frustrating when you can’t get over a small peak. You can download it directly from here, and it’s a weeny 1.4mb. Via Indiegames.

Games Britannia Gets Digital

By John Walker on December 16th, 2009.

A trustworthy face.

There’s something magical in Britain. It’s called BBC Four. Bear with me if you’re a Briton, you’re likely acutely aware of the channel, and how it’s a BBC cable channel for higher-brow programming, a mix of documentary, drama and comedy that perhaps doesn’t possess the mainstream appeal necessary for one of the terrestrial Beeb channels. For those abroad it’s – oh, I’ve cleverly already said. And over the last couple of weeks there’s been a series of hour-long documentaries by Benjamin Woolley, Games Britannia, on the history of gaming. And we’re talking the long view.

Virtual City: Released and Demo’d

By Jim Rossignol on December 15th, 2009.

The straightforwardly-but-unimaginatively-named Virtual City has a demo. It’s here. You can play it for just sixty minutes. How much city can you squeeze out of sixty minutes? I just don’t know, but the fifty seconds of trailer below suggest it might be quite a lot. And hey, it looks super cute. (Via Blue’s, thanks Blue!)

Bethesda To Publish Rage

By Jim Rossignol on December 15th, 2009.

Here’s what Bethesda say: “RAGE will be published by Bethesda Softworks, (a) ZeniMax subsidiary. As a result, Electronic Arts Inc will not be involved in the sales and marketing of RAGE. The ongoing development of RAGE is unaffected by this development.” Thoughts on this below.

The Games Of Christmas: December 15th

By RPS on December 15th, 2009.

The photoshopping gets more wearying every day
Christmas is a time to appreciate the under-appreciated. Like rat milk, the later films of Steve Martin, and boating shoes. And, more earnestly, the game that the hand of the one true leader of the Autobots is trepidatiously gesturing toward…
