Bitworld is interesting - I hope there are plans for an expanded version because it has a lot of potential and feels quite compelling even in the compo form.

Another thing to do would be to advertise on some forums or contact a few artists directly - there's lots of people on Newgrounds or DeviantArt for example that would no-doubt jump at the chance to get some of their artwork into a game.

I don't know how to reply, but I wanted to respond to Andy's question about whether people who weren't in the contest can use the assets.... the answer is yes! They are released under a creative commons license so as long as you agree to the license you are free to use them. Links to the assets are available from the TIGsource webpage. They're a little disorganized right now; they may be consolidated into a torrent or something later but right now I think you have to dig through them and download the ones you want.

Also check the forum posts from the authors of the assets, because apparently they can arrange some things for you like other file types if you need them.

Also, Dog and Bone is totally fun. Very simple gameplay idea but the sprites make it work.

Thanks for checking this out, RPS. I was amazed too, it's such a clever idea and it really turns design on its head. This led me to discover just how amazing TIGSource is generally, their forums in particular.

That's always been my biggest issue as an amateur dev, I'm a dreadful artist!! My games are full of nasty primary coloured blocks because it's the only asset I can actually produce. Naturally this doesn't lead to the most interesting levels ever.
Is there any way for people not taking part in the compo to get access to the assets the art and sound guys have produced? A public repository of that stuff would be singularly invaluable!

I don't know why I can't access tigsource from europe, but I tried a proxy and it seems to work that way.
