Worried about our slow news day (is it?) Dan Dixon alerted us to a TF2 themed video of quite remarkable quality. And so we now present it to you, below. It’s by Andrew Kepple, and Flash animates a tale of love between the Spy and the Pyro. Along the way there’s about 400 references to various games and cartoons, along with some fantastic animation that’s clearly inspired by John Kricfalusi.
The only shame is the clicking and popping of the audio throughout. (And the brief appearance of Yakety Sax, if, like me, the tune now just makes you want to get up and leave a room.) Otherwise this is absolutely packed with gags and ideas, with a final punchline that deserves both a cheer and a boo. Sure, it’s a couple of days after Valentine’s now, but that’s no reason not to enjoy the love between red and blue, Pyro and Spy.

This just hit all the right notes with me despite being meme-heavy. And a rather good punchline too.
Deserves praise, and give the man a job.

Watched it yesterday and have to say that it’s one of the finest pieces of fan-made art I’ve ever seen.
report
Flash animation recorded and then put in a flash video player. The worst of all worlds!
Found the original animation here if anyone else cares. Fairly amusing.
report
and the original flash version doesn’t have the pops in the audio
report
But didn’t you know embedding and streaming is what the cool kids do
report
Fairly impressive. The TF2 fanbase seems to be one of the most creative, although it never appears that way in game.
report
You lie sir. The tools are at our disposal, the creative uses of the Pyro’s airblast and the range of taunts and comic stupidity knows no bounds. You are obviously playing on the wrong servers. Try here:

The punchline got a cheer from me. Team purple, even!
Also the strider humping/spanking was a hoot.
report
I’m proud to say I saw this video BEFORE it hit RPS :p
report
hah. very good. Yeah, TOAST!
report
I had to look up Spyro. Apparently it’s a real video game character.
report
Feh. John K. would be offended if someone showed that to him and told him ANYONE thought it was similar to his work. Tex Avery art with a John K. sense of humor. And the punchline was too damn obvious.
report
More tea Grandad?
report
John K is offended by a lot of things.
report
Tex Avery art?
You’re way off base. Just because he made a lot of it in style with old Avary stuff in terms of music and set-up does not, at all, mean that Andrew himself isn’t generally inspired by John K. Look at the sausage zoom, for example. If anything, I’d say the John K comment is spot on. I’d probably mention the whole McCracken/Tartakovskij team as well, but that’s originating from from John K as well, so…
report
The Spy disguising as a tumbleweed is clearly the best gag.
Well played.
report
wow, I guessed the punchline :) that never happens! lovely video
report
One day John will be captured by the CIA and forced to confess what he knows under forced Yakety Sax.
report
That was absolutely brilliant! One day I simply must get me a professional animator as a fan.
report
Yes, I saw this earlier today, and found it quite amusing. I hadn’t seen anything by Andrew Kepple for quite a while, so it’s good to see he once again has Too Much Spare Time.
report
This is the best thing I have seen in absolutely ages. Splendid, splendid gags all round. Many kudos to the author.
report
I need the “MEET THE MEDIC” video, Valve !!!1 You owe us !
report
2:22
lmao !!
report
That guy deserves a special TF2 weapon from Valve!
Spyro-gun or something… :)
report
The final punchline is 100% awesome.
report
That was amazing!!!
report
brilliant
report
That was gggggggggreat!

John K’s a massive knob. I used to follow his blog but he is such a hypocrit. He hates how Studio Execs won’t give ‘original’ and ‘creative’ animation a chance, but can’t stand anyone who draws differently from some dead guy he apes.
report
Intended as a reply to Jiakamo. Random.
report
He’s not a total knob. This is pretty cool:

report
Truly wonderful, muchos kudos to the peeps who made it.
report
I was groaning at the punchline but that was still brilliant.
report
Gordon Freeman being credited for voice acting was a nice touch.
report
anyone recognize the music from toonstruck?
report
In a sense, I feel like I’ve been Rickroll’d only worse. I should’ve saw it coming, but I didn’t and now I’ve got egg on my face. That’s what she said.
The best joke was Alex and Gordon, hands down. Need an insane edition of that scene that lasts about 20 minutes.
And we all know that G-Man was a spy, that wasn’t really anything new.
