The Left 4 Dead blog has some info on the “mutations” (ie game mode variants) that are being introduced with The Passing:
Our first Mutation is Realism Versus.
For this Mutation, Survivors have all the Realism changes working against them, no glows on items or survivors, tougher zombies, instant kill witches, etc. The Infected have all those changes working for them. This makes the Jockey one of the most powerful Specials for his ability to steer a Survivor out of view. You will want to make sure you have a working microphone so your teammates can hear your screams for help. This Mutation is only available in Versus.
Trailer posted below. Francis hates stuff, obv. Reckon I might be re-deading some zombies later…

I hate that trailer. I hate Rochelle. I hate waiting for The Passing. I hate zombies.

I hate your comment.

hatters gonna hate.
PRO-TIP: wen you hate something, turn it a positive thing. like: “I love Zoey. I miss Zoey sooo much”. See? I can ignore Rochelle, because I don’t like Rochelle either (I will not say hate, because is a strong sentiment) , but I don’t have to say “hate” because I could turn everything into a miasm of positive happy happy lalala pancake. Hating is easy,… get pro and talk in positive. Positive is a PLUS+. /highfive

I hate hatters. I hate dormice. I hate hares.

I liked mutations better when they were called mutators and they were on unreal games.
Just saying.
report
Mutators were brilliant. I only can hope that these mutations become mutators after the cycle of them finishes so we can enjoy them at our own leisure.
report
This is exactly what I though of as well. Good old instagib was always a favourite.

@lambchops
InstaGib was great! One shot, one kill rule was totally changing the feel of the game. Ah, the long hours we spent playing it…
report
@The army of none – That is what I thought they would do. Unfortunately, it is looking like that won’t be the case, as they are going to have votes to find out which Mutation people want repeated.
report
What game is that again ?
report
I hate sarcasm.
report
That was some pretty appalling voice acting compared to Valve’s usual. This saddens me.
report
This. Maybe the L4D2 voice acting just raise the bar and all of L4D1 sounded that bad, but I hope not.
report
The bridge is SO stupid.
report
Also COME ON GOD DAMNIT VALVE
report
exactly, sat here, drunk now, still waiting, grr valve time

>.<
report
Its downloading alright.
Verrrrrrrrry slowly.
report
I’ve just been told what they do in the Passing.
DAMN YOU VALVE! BOO VALVE! etc
report
The update on steam so far hasn’t broken 60kbps, so I’m downloading that (whenever it decides to spurt) along with BFBC2 which I was gifted recently.
report
I played the passing a couple of times through (on PC of course, how dare you even question me!?)
And it’s every bit as fun as advertised.
The L4D1 cast crossover though…meh…I found it unnecessary, boring and pointless tbh.
report
Campaign’s good, and I am LOVING the new midnight riders song.
RIP Bill. *sniff*
report
I really like the map. The finale is awesome.
They really didn’t use the L4D1 survivors enough though. I mean you only talk to them like three times and they barely… do anything. Still cool. :)
