Bad Cop: Hands-On With Sleep Is Death

By Alec Meer on April 7th, 2010.

Last week, I played the upcoming two player indie adventure game Sleep is Death with its creator, Jason Rohrer. He’d created a custom story for me to follow, shape and/or resist. I did all three. Read this to understand what Sleep is Death is, then read below to find out what happened, and why you’re going to love it.

The Complete Rebel Without A Pause Key

By Kieron Gillen on April 7th, 2010.

Rebel Without A Pause Key was a short diary series I wrote in the early days of RPS. It was mentioned in the RPS chat yesterday leading to this “The Complete…” post because we were incy back then, and most of you won’t have read it. It’s based around Bay 12 Games’ pre-Dwarf Fortress game Liberal Crime Squad. It’s a somewhat satirical game about left-leaning terrorists. As you can imagine, strong language and posturing in front of Che Guevara posters follows…

Mod News: Losing Track Of Time

By Lewis Denby on April 7th, 2010.

OH CRAP, IT’S ALMOST WEDNESDAY. Which means I’ve spent the last seven days forgetting to compile a list of the latest interesting mod-happenings, and since Gentleman Jim needs my copy by tonight, I’m having to do it all now. Even though I should totally be tidying my flat, which I also forgot to keep on top of this last week. Right then. Mods. Here’s your lot.

Dev To Make Shooter With Horror Themes

By Jim Rossignol on April 7th, 2010.

Splendidly-named Polish developer Nicolas Intoxicate have announced they’ll be publishing an Unreal-powered horror shooter called Afterfall: Insanity via German publishers The Game Company. That’s pretty much all I’ve got, but I just liked the screenshot of some armoured dude wearing what look like fairy-wings. Yeah.

Tiger, Tiger, Golfing Type

By Jim Rossignol on April 7th, 2010.

There’s something profoundly relaxing about a game of golf. It’s almost as good for de-stressing a man as getting involved in a rabid sex-frenzy with multiple women. Just don’t get caught playing golf, the media will have a field-day… Anyway, it’s worth considering that the latest Tiger Woods game is an entirely browser-based affair (sorry, no pun intended). You can experience some of Tiger’s stick-parabola majesty for free over at Tiger Woods PGA Tour Online, where EA have constructed an elegant golfer game using Unity, so it’s playable on Mac and PC. It’s only free up to a point, of course, and you can unlock all the featured courses with a monthly or yearly sub (£6.99 and £49.99) and buy bits and pieces in the micro-transaction emporium of golf tat. Jolly good. Carry on.

Pick On Someone Your Own Size: Boss Rush

By Kieron Gillen on April 7th, 2010.

The little bastard's just off screen. The bast.

Paper Dino have been working on this for eons – in Internet time, anyway – so when many of you (of whom Andrew Davis was first) mailed us about Boss Rush, I was convinced we’d already blogged it. But no, we played a Beta before Chrimble. But it’s done now! It’s a shooter where you play the boss, basically. Five (count ‘em!) bosses are available to play, and – perhaps appropriately as Bosses are always Rubik’s Cubes with ultradeath – with its carefully designed challenges it can feel more like puzzler than a shooter at times. Go have a shot, or several thousand in a single burst. Trailer from late last year is below…

Mass Effect 2′s Kasumi DLC MIA

By John Walker on April 7th, 2010.

She's VERY enigmatic.

BioWare do seem to be having trouble keeping a leash on their DLC. The 6th April was supposed to be the day we were given a new character to join our team in Mass Effect 2, Kasumi Goto. The Kasumi DLC is out now! The tech-specialist enigmatic thief can be seen in her trailer below.

My Lawlord: Ars Technica On The Evony Case

By Kieron Gillen on April 6th, 2010.

Hello. I'm a little shy about making too many gags around stories which lawyer up. At least when I'm linkblogging, eh?
This is some fantastic stuff from Ars Technica. Following on their piece looking at Evony earlier in the week, they do a follow up, giving right to reply to Benjamin Gifford and Walt Yarbrough of Regan Mercantile, the folk behind Evony. Lots of stuff covered – especially good is the news they’re in the process of dialing back their distinctive ads-barrage – but the most jaw dropping material comes later in the piece, in relation to the just-dropped Evony/Everiss case, where Ars Technica have the transcripts to Gifford’s cross-examination on the stand…

Imbalanced: Cosmicube

By Kieron Gillen on April 6th, 2010.

Delightful girlfriend was NGamer's ball-controller specialist reviewer. Missus!

Creator Patrick Richardson mailed us to mention his Unity-powered ball manipulation game (Missus! – Election Editor), I tried to remember why I didn’t post it when Schizoslayer lobbed it at me via IM a couple of weeks ago. And then I remembered. I’m posting now, as there’s a neat minor aspect to it. Basically, the first person to beat the 25 levels – without losing their lives – gets their name permanently added to the front page. Which is neat. You can play it online here or download (For Mac or PC!) here. Schizo and I couldn’t get past the third level before getting distracted. BUT SOME OF YOU ARE MADE OF MASOCHIST AND CRAVE ETERNAL RECOGNITION*. Some footage follows.
