Mental note: on my next replay I’m gonna kill that mechanic to see if he has anything on him indicating he was up to no good. Plus it gets him back for that bomb.

On my only playthrough (2001) I screwed up and didn’t notice the mechanic being shady. So, I never saw this dialogue, Jock only commented on a rattling noise, which I didn’t think was significant. Then after dropping me of at Area 51, Black Helicopter exploded, taking with it Jock, but also my will to continue.
I was so frustrated (sad, maybe? kinda grew fond of the guy) that I didn’t finish the game after that, and to this day haven’t done so. So it could probably be called my personal emergent-gameplay “bad ending”.
Also the HD with the savefile on it crashed a few months later, driving the last nail into the coffin. What a great game, though.
