G4 Shouts Joyfully At Rage: New Footage

By John Walker on June 17th, 2010.

Brown?

My wish is their command. And my wish was for new Rage footage. G4 has obliged, with two videos of footage and gibbage.

All Right On The Blackest Night: DC Universe

By Kieron Gillen on June 16th, 2010.

For your sake, that white stream you're firing at me better not be semen

What with my extra-RPS-ticular activities I should probably be careful with this one, yeah? Anyway – among the E3 assets there’s a trailer for the forthcoming (November!) DC Universe Online, which is trying to sell its “You’re a new hero and you get to choose whether to go good or evil and then fight alongside the legends” angle. And in its scripted manner, it actually does it pretty well. I also see the last set of assets released were a load of grabs of Power Girl, which seems to be some PR generously setting us up for a load of “Power Girl’s Assets” gags. I’m going to resist, instead talking about where I left a copy of the – actually very lovely – recent run around the house Delightful FiancĂ©e stopped, considered it, then informed me “Power Girl’s breasts are ridiculous” before wandering off again. This is true. Er… trailer follows.

Roll Out The Barrel Demo…

By Kieron Gillen on June 16th, 2010.

Oh noes! BP are at it again.
There are days when RPS decide that they can no longer resist posting videos of someone making a 3D engine make a load of barrels fall/explode/be eaten. This is one of those days. 25,000 Barrels, piled up, then falling, in UDK. Go!

Fiat Flux: Aeon Flux Episodes

By Kieron Gillen on June 16th, 2010.

DEATH TO THOSE WHO WEAR BLUE! And - c'mon! You have to be impressed by the strapline pun. It's showing an education or something.

This stand-alone fan-project caught my eye because an Ex of mine was vaguely into the cartoon and she never got around to actually showing it me. Hell, I totally forgot they made it into a film a few years ago. So Aeon Flux Episodes is the closest I’ll get. Anyway – this is very much in the line of Prince of Persia/Another World/Flashpoint and in its adult-if-stilted platforming. Lots of points for style though, with the foreground and background elements moving around and a low-leaning difficulty to let you mow down masses of the opposition with dual-wielded guns. Pointing in both directions. That’s the way to do it. My main reservation is that the checkpoints are a long, long way apart and when extreme falls are insta-deaths, it can lead to a disconcerting level of back-tracking – especially when the game, generally speaking, is an easy ride. The site lists various places you can get its 60Mb form from but ModDB is probably the easiest. And the trailer follows which shows lots of nifty stuff I didn’t get to…

Wolpaw & Lombardi Talk About Portal 2

By John Walker on June 16th, 2010.

Wakey wakey.

I’ve got the most incredible surprise announcement to make after the jump in this post! It’s going to be amazing! Start getting worked up about it now! Also there’s 1UP’s interview with Valve’s Erik Wolpaw, lead writer on Portal 2, and PR guru Doug Lombardi. It’s a slightly awkward interview, established by a very peculiar opening question. But it contains all manner of titbits about Portal 2, including how the game will manage to offer two-player co-op without breaking the fiction. Don’t forget about that surprise!

More Falling Out? Fallout Online Teaser Site

By Kieron Gillen on June 16th, 2010.

'Wishing You Were Here, You Barbarians' - John Walker

This is getting interesting, at least in the industry-watching way. Despite the last we heard was Bethesda denying that Interplay have been given the okay to progress with the Fallout MMO, a teaser site – including a mailing list and Beta-possibility sign-up – has just launched. The whole site is incredibly slow right now, but it’s all first-person looking at cards before being lobbed on the table, plus retro music. I’d imagine that there’s folks on the internet picking over every element in the image, but I can’t spare the brainpower, as I’m still thinking about urinating to create an improvised flamethrower. And you would be too.

I Like It When It Burns A Bit: Atomic Butcher

By Kieron Gillen on June 16th, 2010.

Hey Jim! Do you like it when it burns a bit? 'I like it when it burns a bit'. And John? Do YOU like it when it burns a bit? 'I like it when it burns a bit'.

Antlia nodded at this, despite Atomic Butcher being terribly old – you’ll need at least Windows 98, spec-watchers. It’s a retro side-on platform adventure game, complete with death-messages in the subject line as if it were 1994 again and its control system – I quote – “blatantly stolen from the game Abuse“. The main reason why I blog it isn’t that it’s an expansive freeware action game. It’s because you play a character whose default weapon is radioactive urine. And, if you direct your stream into a fire, it ignites, making it EVEN MORE DEADLY. We need to mediate upon this, and decide that whether this actually is the true spiritual sequel to Fallout we were all waiting for. You can download it from here or find some footage below. What’s your favourite urine based weapons, readers?

Black Prophecy Trails Anew

By Jim Rossignol on June 16th, 2010.

Via the resplendent Blue I spy HOT spaceship porn. Reakktor’s latest trailer for the now-in-closed-beta space MMO Black Prophecy shows customisable ships, beautiful space-lane scenes, and some very sexy, er, menus. I really hope it’s as sandboxy as it needs to be to satisfy my not inconsiderable space-needs.

Why I Don’t Think XCOM Will Suck

By Alec Meer on June 16th, 2010.

I could have gone for “Why I think XCOM won’t disappoint me” or “What I thought about the demo I saw in March”, but when in Rome… That said, it being or not being shit isn’t the issue here, is it? Not being the same genre is why people are heartbroken. Oh, I’m just asking for trouble with this post. I’m also being totally fucking honest with you.

I’ve told you what’s in it, and I’ve told you what the developers say it is. Here’s what I think about what I’ve seen so far.

I think a lot of things.

id In Showing Images Of Rage Shocker

By John Walker on June 16th, 2010.

He should be staring in amazement at the detail behind him.

As promised in the post below, here are four new shots of Rage – a game we’ve seen very little of so far. But then it’s id, and therefore it’s remarkable to have even these. We’re very hopeful to see some sort of game footage video out of this E3. Imagine it! Seeing Rage moving! The last time that happened was August last year. Before that, July 2008. In the meantime you might want to try looking between the pictures below very quickly. The very, very impressive pictures. Mega-textures seem to be working.
