Don’t Diss The Streams: Streemerz

By Quintin Smith on July 27th, 2010 at 8:43 pm.

Clowns: No laughing matter.

A jog over to IndieGames.com has led me to a couple of finds tonight, the first of which is a flash version of the freeware fan remake of ancient NES game Streemerz, which sees players zipping around levels using nothing more than an enormously awkward diagonal ‘Streamer’, or grappling hook. It’s neat, the dialogue is incredible and the remake adds checkpoints and a grab-bag of different modes. Go and enjoy!

  2. I thought this would be gimmicky and annoying and artificially hard but it’s actually great fun. Thanks for that. :D

This is astonishingly fun, though Doctor Y made me touch his balls over and over again, already. Pretty tough.

Has the NES game been a direct insipiration for VVVVVV, or was the reference cleverly added to the remake? The games certainly share a few similarities on first look.

    • After 88 deaths I decided I was done. I’ve had it up to here with Dr. Y’s balls. The clowns are no laughing matter, and the $15 was not worth it.

    • Argh, no, I’m an idiot, it is a remake, but it’s also a parody of the indie scene. (Hence the VVVVVV bit.)

I’m on level B16 now, and I’m at a section where the game is proving to be rather.. eh.. painful for my fingers.

Late in the game the checkpoints become frustratingly far apart.
