Electronical Artisans: EA’s Create

UPDATE: Trailer embedded below.
Interesting-looking family game? Yes, I am typing those words. Which makes me uncomfortable. And a bit uncertain about life. Anyway, Create from EA’s Play studio is a multiplayer puzzle game for which the theme of “creativity”. Explanatory video on the website shows it to be a bunch of painting, level-furnishing, simple tinkering, and physics tweakiness, and could be fairly interesting. Solutions to particular levels can be unique, and clever ones can be uploaded and shared via the website. The EA release says: “The more players explore the game, solve level-based challenges, and customize their world, the more rewards will be unlocked. Creativity will be unleashed as players design environments with easy-to-use brushes and tools, including textures, props and animating objects that bring the scene to life.” The game is due for the “holiday”. The fun is guessing which one.

I’m going on holiday next month; it’s being released then.

The website says Fall 2010, which I believe is some time in Autumn.

      It looks quite fun.
Some of the puzzles look very ornate, they could be:
      – Complex for the purposes of the trailer, but unrepresentative of the real game
      – Representative of the real game and therefore too hard for small children.
      – Largely pre-created in the puzzle setup with the user asked to make easy tweaks (good for the kids)

Looks like a cross between little big planet and something those blokes who do the insane mario music levels would come up with. Oh and maybe throw in the hand drawn sledge level game thing too (which I just looked the name for – Line Rider).

It looks like the level editing mode from Joe Danger. Only not quite as good

The screen grab made me think we were getting a real Theme Park sequel.

    Disappointing.

  5. piercehead says:

Just to be picky, it’s actually being done by Bright Light Studio (part of EA’s Play label) :)

I misread the initial press release I thought the game’s name was Crate and that it was going to be satirical throwback to 90s first person shooters – the first screenshot I saw was also of a crate…

Why do I think Crate would probably be a better game?

    Crate would be great.

Thanks, website. That narrows it right down to a 12-month period! I therefore predict that either (a) the game is already out, or (b) it will be released sometime between now and December 31st. Or (c) it will be delayed until next year.

  9. Justin Leego says:

    The PR says November.

Thanks to EA we now know exactly which 30 day period “holiday season” and “Fall” refer to, rejoice!

Someting like “Little big planet” meet “The incredible machine”
