So – er – yes.

Never before have my feelings changed so rapidly mid-headline
report
Very true
report
That’s awfully specific for a game released a year from now.
If they keep to that I shall be impressed.

“When it´s done ..”
report
It won a lot best of E3 awards and stuff but I really do struggle to get excited about Rage. A Preview in PCZone (RIP) summed it up for me, its doing what fallout 3 and borderlands did but prettier. Maybe I’ll eat my words, I hope so, but still doesn’t seem that special to me.
report
I dunno, the setting is very similar but the game looks like a lot more fun that either of those two – Less grindy/repetitive that Borderlands and less pointless than Fallout 3.
report
Except Rage will be a good shooter, unlike those two.
report
I though Borderlands had very good shooter mechanics.
report
Great! Shooters have been thin on the ground recently.
report
Since Fallout 3 isn’t a shooter, I would expect Rage to be better at it.
report
The gameplay looked decidedly meh anyway.
Though it was pretty neat seeing it run on the iPhone.
report
Ranting about PC games being dumbed down for console pads is one thing, but how on earth can iOS manage to capture modern PC game controls?
report
A combination of analogue movement via virtual pad on the left, action buttons on the right, and tilt/gyro to turn. It sounds fiddly (and it initially is) but once you’ve gotten used to it, it’s around gamepad level. I’ve had no trouble popping headshots all over the place in the iPhone port of Call of Duty: Zombies. And I can quite happily play iPhone Doom on ultra-violence difficulty once I turn on tilt-to-turn.
report
What a f*cking c0cktease, id…..seriously.

There’s no swearing filter on RPS you [terribly pleasant] [person of questionable lineage].

John Carmack is about to make you his bitch
report
Suck it down.
report
At least I can play it on my iOS devices before the end of the year :P

Rage – The answer to a question no one asked.

Could not agree more.

RAAAAAAAAAGE
Anyway one last snippet? I must be and idiot, but I don’t see any other news. Clicking the quakecon tag returns one post per year pretty much!

‘It’ll be done when – er, when Zenimax says it will be done, actually’
report
Oh damn, Spooky already made that funny
report
Continuing the Zenimax tradition of having an engine that always looks at least a year out of date.
report
Or could it be they need more time to utilize DX11?
report
From what the almighty Carmack said the engine can use either OpenGL (!) or DirectX 9 (!) !
report
I speculate that either they want to avoid clashing with some big titles to be published in this coming fall, or they are in favor of successors of Xbox360 and Playstation 3.
I hope they would get the Linux version ready if they take one more year to prepare the game.
report
Not at all surprising.
report
I hope they use the time to rework the physics and general feel of the race elements, because they look very unimpressive.
report
It says something when the best game a developer made was one of the first (Doom).
Its a bit like Jaws and Duel where films are concerned.
Though I applaud his ability to get it working on a smart phone.
report
I still struggle to care about Rage at all, or indeed anything ID have done since Quake3.
report
Are they really that desperate to distance if from Borderlands? Just what the hell are they doing with this game that’s going to take so damn long? I wasn’t under the impression that this was going down some complex RPG route.
report
The only option we have…
Is to freeze ourself in the fridge till sept -2011 !!!
report
Wish people would stop drawing comparisons with Fallout 3 and Borderlands. Fallout 3 looks like complete and utter shit next to RAGE. Fallout 3 gameplay-wise, when not crashing, was dull with a few highlights here and there.
It’s like people don’t even try and discover the game for themselves. Instead it’s always, what’s the trendy thing to say, I’ll say that.
Plus, John Carmack. Nuff said.
report
I watched the livestream of Carmack’s keynote at Quakecon and here is the basic message I got. It seems id’s reputation is less than legendary these days after the disappointments of Doom3 and Quake4 (I know they didnt make it, but it was their ip). So I think they are purposely taking their sweet old time to make sure RAGE will be the game to redeem id’s good name. I get the feeling that a lot of the next year will simply be insane amounts of polish on an already nearly-finished product.
report
I think it’s downright pathetic that they aren’t actually going to make a 2010 deadline here, especially when they aim for September NEXT year. What exactly have they been doing all along?
For some reason this puts their whole game into a rather peculiar perspective for me. First it’s Bethesda basically taking over the entire iD Software show and now they’re going to delay this title for (at least) a full year? Some how I don’t quite think I want to know what Rage looks like right now or were they simply too early announcing it in the first place?
So many mixed feelings about this title, quite incredible.
report
Us ‘Murrikins only git it two days aforehand.
So what’s the big deal?
report
What, they were still working on this title?
Honestly, I think ZeniMax are just pushing the release until people stop caring about it so they can use the engine for other games. That’s the main reason they bought id Software in the first place.
I do want the game out already though. Even if it isn’t going to be an awesome game, it does look like it could be entertaining.
report
looking forward to playing this game :(
Need to wait loooong time
