A2OA Compo: Winners And Postponement!

By RPS on August 21st, 2010 at 1:18 pm.

So, the hurrah/bah list for this competition. Hurrah: winners of the Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead competition will be receiving their codes and links this afternoon. Bah: We’re going to have to postpone the actual co-op game until the 29th of August, despite having asked everyone who be available tomorrow. Hurrah: That gives you all some time to practice. Bah: But perhaps some folks will be busy that weekend.

Anyway, read on below for more information and winners.

If you’ve made the grade you’ll be receiving a PM shortly with download details, but here’s a list so you all know who you’ll be fighting with:

The Event itself will kick off at 2pm BST, but if at all possible try to arrive early so we can organise ourselves. The server will be up and running from 12pm BST on Sunday so we might just have time to get our act together before first contact…

The server itself is a 64 slot server donated by the super-cool and handsome chaps at www.JestServers.com so can accommodate those bright sorts who’ve already purchased Operation Arrowhead and want to join in the fun (though we’ll be having a 24 player winners-only game first). Winners will get the server login details via PM on Sunday and we’ll post them publicly soon after for the rest of you.

Remember, your performance on the battlefield will be judged and exceptionally worthy sorts who fling themselves on grenades to save a wounded dogs or similar could win the new British Forces DLC, T-Shirts or other ArmA 2 goodies.

So, congratulations winners! See you Sunday. Come with courage in your hearts, tea by your side and if at all possible mics on your heads. We’ve got a war to win.

    Hero Squad stands ready, sah!

    • Sarlix says:

Damn Hero Squad. They were supposed to be moving some soft furnishings for me that weekend…What a let down.

      hexapodium says:

A few of Hero Squad missed the boat for this one, we can still move your sofa- Steve won’t shed all over it this way, either.

    Grunt reporting.

  3. Alexander Norris says:

Practice? But that would make be not rubbish at the game! I was apparently selected on the basis of my being terrible at it. I guess it just means I’ll have to practice for the event by refusing to practice on OA.

(On the other hand, if we want to do a practice “see if everyone can connect to the servers” run tomorrow at 2pm BST, I’m up for that, just to be sure everything is installed properly.)

    • Nullkigan says:

It’s very easy to be rubbish at the the game. A stray bullet will kill you DEAD soldier!

Actually, you should post a forum topic along these lines so we can coordinate without losing ourselves in the comment system. I’ll provide a teamspeak server, details to follow.

    • Alexander Norris says:

@Nullkigan — I’d like to wait for one of the Hivemind to weigh in on this, first. We can’t do anything without an OA server and trying it on another server sort of defeats the point of seeing if we’re all capable of connecting to the RPS server. :P

  4. darkrei9n says:

Woo! Just for this I’m going to do that five barrel roll thing (See: Fail at it).

  5. Senethro says:

Cheers guys, frankly I need the extra week to practice.

    • The Tupper says:

Indeed! Even though I informed the adjudicators of my ineptitude upon application I did nevertheless overplay what I believe The Kids refer to as leet skills, or something.

    • HexagonalBolts says:

Hurrah! I’m even top of the list!

But is it me or does the A.I. in the singleplayer campaign sort of…. just not work? It makes it almost impossible to get any training done :(

  6. Jaffo says:

Ah well, guess I’ll have to keep playing OFP a while longer!

Congrats to the winners and have fun next week!

  7. Luomu says:

Hey, I somehow missed this completely. I’ll drop in for the public game.

  8. Web Cole says:

I completely forgot about this. Awesome! :D

  9. Fringe says:

Sweeeeeeet, I actually won something! I’m a very happy man now, thanks RPS. I’m downloading now but it’s a bit slow. I’ll sort my mic out and I can still make tomorrow afternoon (as well as next week) if we are able to put something together.

Hello to Hero Squad. Reporting for duty and all that malarky old chap, what!

  10. The Tupper says:

Thank you sir. I’m honoured to serve and shall do my duty on the revised date.

FYI – I’ll be the one with little medical kit slung around my neck and some of my sister’s lovely upsidedown cake that she made specially.

    Yours faithfully,

    Pvt Godfrey Tupper

  11. The Tupper says:

Does that include people who throw themselves on their own grenades? It’s a distinct possibility.

Apologies in advance if I’ve messed up the XHTML scripts for my quote (above). I’m feeling like a fancy-pants winner in life *and love) since I won the competition and thought I’d get flashy with the posts.

    • The Tupper says:

Yup. I indeed managed to mess up the script. Not to worry – it wasn’t anything important. Move along…

      Hubris=Nemesis

  12. Jockie says:

What’s the in-game voip like? i could probably borrow a mumble server if required (mumble is like teamspeak and vent but opensource and quite good).

    • Sardaukar says:

It’s actually quite good. Besides the usual channels, you can broadcast your speech from your avatar- with adjusted volume and position for distance- but best/creepiest of all, the model tries to lipsync with you.

  13. necromental says:

Ohh ta very much boys :D Free is the best flavour and I do believe gunishment is on the dessert list. Now, to see if I can get my 360 headset to work …

  14. Fringe says:

I’ve created a forum topic about this here: http://rockpapershotgun.com/rpsforum/topic.php?id=3247

  15. Awcko says:

Hell yes, ready and able to shot bullet at mans this coming Sunday! Too bad I don’t have a fancy head set that doesn’t turn my voice into audible pudding, though. :(

  16. gildron says:

Yes, this pleases me. I’m going to practice my grenade diving skills so that I will be ready to go come next Sunday.

Last one alive, lock the door!

  17. EBass says:

I’m up for this, where will the details be broadcast? On the forum?
