Harvey Smith flags up Trouble At The ‘Ton, a cell-shaded Deus Ex fan film released back in July, on Twitter. It’s a prequellete of sorts, starring two of DX’s most beloved bitplayers. Seems like a decent start to the day.
Reckon Gunther or Anna will turn up in Human Revolution, or is that too far into fanservice-land?

Decent start indeed.

Not a shame. Actually rather good!

Well done. Watching that was better than playing through the whole of DX2.

Whilst it would be really interesting to meet/see Gunther & Anna in Human Revolution, I suspect they’ll simply be mentioned as Easter eggs, probably involving skul-guns…
21/09/2010 at 10:02 Malagate says:
Maybe, just maybe, we’ll see them pre-op!
…you know, before the cybernetic alterations. Bonus points if they’re unrecognisable, like Herman’s a puny man and Navarra is rotund.

The voice acting is definitely ‘fan film’ level, but in the upper range. A very nice effort!
21/09/2010 at 08:37 PiP says:
Some of the movements are dodgy, especially walking, and voice acting is off but overall nicely made.
21/09/2010 at 14:14 disperse says:
I figured the walking animations were deliberately making fun of Deus Ex.

The spiky haired guy walked like he had rickets. Soya snacks must be low on Vitamin D.
Also, the Ton has never looked that clean.

I’m sorry too, england should never have filled you with convicts. Kiss and make up?
21/09/2010 at 09:11 tomeoftom says:
But, yeah, it was decent.

It’s a bomb!

A Bomb.

It really wouldnt make sense if they WEREN’T in the new Deus Ex…it’s their timeline damnit. They ARE the old time cyber users…bah

Ok. Now I want a mini series.

I’m still surprised no-one’s written some joyous praise-rant on Deux Ex and entitled it “I SPILL MY THINK!”

My bet is one or both of them will make a cameo or will at least be mentioned in some computer system, but they won’t be major characters.
21/09/2010 at 09:54 MD says:
After what IW did to some of the original DX characters, I think this would be for the best.
21/09/2010 at 10:34 Snall says:
MD- …you played invisible War enough to get to the plot? I didn’t play past the bloody first apartment/floor whatever where it started…just…do not want.
21/09/2010 at 11:28 MD says:
I have to admit, I actually enjoyed Invisible War once I got stuck into it. After a lot of tweaking and patching, and a drastic lowering of expectations, it was a pretty decent game. A travesty when taken in context, but a pretty decent game once the worst of the technical flaws were tweaked out and all hopes of a worthy sequel to Deus Ex extinguished.
I’ve still never forgiven Kieron for his ridiculous review in PC Gamer, though.
21/09/2010 at 11:30 MD says:
Also, the ending was ultra-shite.

The first thing that jumps to mind in my juvenile 30 y/o brain when reading “Gunther & Anna In ‘Hotel Hi-Jinx’” is hardcore pornography.
Why am I _ALWAYS_ so sorely disappointed?
They would make the perfect Rule 34 couple. *sadface*
21/09/2010 at 10:05 Thiefsie says:
hehe completely takes me back to the weirdness of Killer 7. Not too bad for an amateur effort.
21/09/2010 at 10:05 Shazbut says:
They’re already in the sequel. They’re the big square-headed dude who punches you and Rihanna.
21/09/2010 at 10:13 Cinnamon says:
Is this another homage to Ghost in the Shell?
21/09/2010 at 10:35 Primar says:
What did they do in DX2? I’ve never played it or really paid much attention to it, so I’m curious.
21/09/2010 at 11:04 Rich says:
They’re not in IW. They both get killed in DX1.
21/09/2010 at 10:55 Vague-rant says:
Argh. Is that man about to urinate in the lobby? Why has no one mentioned this? Is it just something everyone does?
21/09/2010 at 11:29 MD says:
Yep! What are you, some sort of prude?
21/09/2010 at 10:58 Jonas says:
OLD!
Sorry.
Yeah it’s pretty impressive, I like that old one with JC at the Battery Park hostage situation better though. Wouldn’t mind a Gunther or Anna cameo in DX3, would be interesting to meet them before they go half borg.

That’s how it broke, though. I thought it was a clever little tie-in with the game.
21/09/2010 at 11:40 TooNu says:
Was pretty cool to see that. It can’t be the same ‘ton hotel though, far too much traffic outside of that one :) The REAL ‘ton had about 1/10th of the road as in this video.

yes, but the area wasn’t cordoned off back then ;)

How can anyone be that bad at voiceover? HOW?
21/09/2010 at 13:52 Rath says:
Unfortunately Jeff Groteboer, the guy who voiced Gunther in the original Deus Ex, passed away in 2003.

I’m guessing it depends on whether DE:HR is the only prequel planned or not.
Being the most advanced/top level agents prior the Denton’s and Simon, you would assume they *ought* to play a part on what transpired prior the events on Deus Ex.
Unfortunately, the trailers seems to imply that the main character (Adam Jensen), is way more advanced than even JC Denton, which of course should not be the case. Nanoaugmentation tech > Cyborgs.
So, how they would make Anna/Gunther be “powerful enough” when compared to him, is still in the air.
