  1. Kid A says:

As a representative of the Alliance, I find the depiction of Horde characters as likeable in any way disgusting and an affront to our troops. I hereby demand the Horde be renamed “OPFOR” and turned into faceless mooks for us to slaughter in the name of freedom, justice, and Beer-Basted Boar Ribs.

To think they said things would change when KG left.

  11. Chris Hansen says:

You know what I’d like to see?
A ban on WOW articles. And a ban on MInecraft articles.
    Das ist gut!

  12. westyfield says:

    Warcraftcraft?

  13. stephan says:

Down with this sort of thing.

  14. Alex F. says:

    Desperate.

  15. Danny says:

There you have it. RPS AI is not being paid per word anymore.

Or they are focusing on that 56k-only-PC-gamers niche.

    What do I know.

  16. Joe Maley says:

I AM SO EXCITED FOR THIS.

  17. yabonn_fr says:

  18. Jez says:

Oh God.. here we go again.

Just when my veins have healed, my family were starting to look familiar and I weigh more than the Undead Rogue I used to command.

    At least I don’t play a Druid.

  19. Chris Hansen says:

For quoting Father Ted I love thee.

    • westyfield says:

How is there any room in that post for a quotation? I mean, unless short phrases count now.

      “Damn it!”
      “Haha, nice Blackadder reference there.”

    • Kast says:

      One word: D’Oh!

  20. ScubaMonster says:

Stopped playing WoW ages ago, and this won’t bring me back. I’m pretty much done with mmo’s until Guild Wars 2 comes out.

  21. Severian says:

    now with more hats!

  22. neolith says:

Looks like this’ll be the first WoW addon I won’t be playing.

    • TotalBiscuit says:

Shame, because it’s the best one.

      Carra says:

They keep on improving. RotLK was better than Outland.

No doubt this one will be even better.

    • jconnop says:

      “RotLK was better than Outland.”

No, just no. Questing wise? Yes. But in every other conceivable way, no.

      Carra says:

      Well, it’s all personal opinions.

I much preferred adding one awesome class to adding two rather useless classes. Same class, different skin. The questing was a lot more varied too.

    • TotalBiscuit says:

It’s not actually personal opinion though. There are plenty of things that were objectively worse, not least the end-game content and difficulty scaling.

    • neolith says:

How can you say it’s not personal opinion? Endgame content and difficulty scaling are exactly what I disliked about WotLK.

    • neolith says:

edit: Sorry, misread your post. I need sleep.

    • Ian says:

If nuAzeroth and the 80+ stuff is to Northrend what Northrend was (for me) Outland, I shall be a happy saddo.

  23. arioch says:

Oh god… This isn’t going to be healthy for my relationship…

  25. Edgar the Peaceful says:

    Right-o.

  26. Meat Circus says:

I think this thread needs more Tei.

    Or perhaps less. Either’s good.

  27. frosty says:

this looks like american release date, matches their patch day & game release day’s, as euro patch day is weds any idea if europes going to get it a day later ?

  28. Flappybat says:

I got all excited but then I realised it wasn’t Guild Wars 2.

      stahlwerk says:

      It’s funny because it’s true ;-)

      Also: nice username/avatar combo! Coincidence?

  29. donmarker says:

    Big = popular =/= good.

    Example:

Jersey Shore = big = popular =/= good.

WoW is big, it’s popular, but it’s not very good and brings nothing to the table except the ability to stagnate an already slowflowing mmo river.

    • Hmm-Hmm. says:

I’d disagree. But I think it’s subjective anyway so.. ‘meh’.

    • nekomancer says:

“WoW is big, it’s popular, but it’s not very good and brings nothing to the table except the ability to stagnate an already slowflowing mmo river.”

      Opinions…

Also big = popular =/= bad. But chatting about that is waste of time I guess (bored…).

    • GHudston says:

“WoW brings nothing to the table” is hardly a subjective claim. The game is getting on a bit, but nearly every modern MMO is heavily inspired by/totally ripped off from WoW, as are numerous single player games and the recent “RPG elements” craze. What you know as an MMO wouldn’t exist without WoW and it deserves more credit than that.

Why can’t you just accept that it’s not your sort of thing and be done with it? WoW is a very good game. I has a huge amount of content and is more than worth the subscription fee. You don’t agree with this because it’s not your sort of thing and, as such, I don’t expect you to enjoy it.

I’m sure there is something that you enjoy that I would hate also, it doesn’t mean that it isn’t any good.

    • Nick says:

The things they rip off from WoW were ripped off by WoW in the first place, from EQ, that also ripped them off. So yeah.

    • GHudston says:

Note: I said that it sparked off the current boom of the “Modern MMO”, not that Blizzard invented the MMORPG.

    • Nick says:

And I’d argue that even if WoW didn’t exist the current boom of MMOs would still follow the same formula, as it was EQs big success that sparked that style of MMORPGs popularity of design in the first place.

    • donmarker says:

Naturally I was expressing my own personal opinion and in no way presuming that it is the general one of everyone else. Each to his/her own in all ways and manners, even when it comes to the internets.
If I somehow gave the impression that I was trampling or disrespecting those who actually enjoy WoW and are present here on RPS, I sincerely apologize.

    • GHudston says:

Thanks for that. It’s a rare thing to see a genuine apology on the internet!

Also, I agree that MMOs would still be familiar, but there wouldn’t be any where near as many of them without the success of World of Warcraft and they would be missing a lot of features that we all take for granted (remember this next time you see an NPC with a quest marker above their head, for example!)

I played EQ a LOT, along with a handful of the other MMORPGs available at that time and they are all barely recognisible compared to what we have now. I loved EQ and it deserves as much credit as WoW for being yet another step in the evolution of my favourite genre, but hopefully you can see my point.

  30. MrSafin says:

    Deliscious.

  31. Starky says:

    Eeranoo…
    Oovavoo…

  32. Chris Hansen says:

Sir, I say Sir! The quotation I was talking about was a commentators, “Down with this sort of thing.” So yeah. Try not to fail again, simply because the reply function is inevitably poor.

  33. blargh says:

    Cool!

  34. smokingkipper says:

Ffs stop World of Warcraft spam RPS. Can we not talk about Notch some more?

  35. Baka says:

Isn’t absolutely every player freezing his account until then?
Zero content for half a year (or even more?) should be pretty boring even for the most addicted I presume.

  36. Jez says:

I love the way they were like: “..we can’t give people too many abilities… so you can only go to 85… oh, actually, we’ll fuck over the talent trees so you can’t have any hybrid builds.. you’re limited to 41 points, but you can still only go to 85… this means that hopefully in the future we can lube you up, double your heroin dosage and get our dicks wet while you play. Also, we can’t be arsed to rebalance 4.0.1 for LIVE, so you’ll probably get dicked by 40-yard spell ranges, magi who cast while running, and Boomkin who hit harder than a 21-year-old Tyson attached to the front of the Japanese Bullet Train. GG loljk subscribe!”

    • Guildenstern says:

@Jez: The irony, of course, is that it’s people like you who are absoutely guaranteed to buy the expansion.

  37. DMJ says:

I have no opinion about this, so I’m doing a little dance instead.

  38. Diomedes says:

That’s it then. Cancel the kitchen scraps for lepers and orphans, no more merciful beheadings, and call off Christmas

  39. Jeffthewonderbadger says:

    So say we all.

  40. undead dolphin hacker says:

“Tch. Stupid WoW-plebes. What a total boring joke of a game.”

    Translated from beret-wearing-elitist to english:

“Already preordered, see you in the pickup line at 11:59pm on December 6th!”

  41. mezron says:

I see what you did there…

  42. Dorian Cornelius Jasper says:

    Hey.

  43. Arnulf says:

    That goblin looks so awful.

  44. DevilSShadoW says:

what was that about an enema?

  45. Dastompinata says:

    Nice one

  46. Dao Jones says:

This is what happens when Kieron leaves!

I kid, I love this post! Though… why is Quinns STILL not one of the named on the bottom of the page? :(

  47. x25killa says:

    Hmm. Nope.

  48. Ian says:

I’m looking forward to reading about people who camped out since October to be front of the queue bragging about how early they got the game when I received it in the post two days early.
