A video introducing Sanctum, one of the capital cities in Rift, can be found below. It is, in case you were wondering, a fantasy MMO, and this is very definitely the seat of power for the good guys. This quick overview of Sanctum and its monumental architecture leaves little doubt about that. More usefully, Trion Worlds have also sent over some beta keys. As usual our subscribers got first dibs on them, but I’ve got a few left if you lot are interested. You can mail us here to apply for them, and be aware that they’ll soon run out.

Just by the way, paypal still tells me I need a credit card when I try to subscribe. That’s the reason I have a paypal account. I don’t have a CC.
Didn’t we tell you that this is how _not_ to make money a few months ago, RPS? You don’t want my hard earned Euros? FINE! *sniff*

Would love to be an subscriber as well but paypal ripped me of 1500$ locked my account 5 years ago, so no chance I can become one.

The name Rift makes it sound too much like another Myst game. Then again I said the same about Risen. But this seems like it’s putting the twee in fantastwee anyway. So, not my thing. That and it being an MMO…

I still have no idea how this game is not a WOW clone. But I would very much like to find out.

Err…ok. I’m all signed up for the beta with one of your kindly provided beta keys but…how the hell do I get ahold of the client? Is it not available yet? Am I just being stupid (most likely option, I grant)?
24/11/2010 at 12:07 Peter says:
Beta hasn’t started yet, it starts Dec. the 3rd. Assuming RPS’s keys are VIP ones (they haven’t mentioned), you’ll have access to that event, however if they aren’t, you may or may not have access to it. The beta has several parts, and participants are invited selectively, while VIP’s receive access to all parts.
I’d assume RPS are giving out VIP keys, since those are the ones that are rather limited in number. Normal ones are plenty in curse.com

@Peter
Ah…right. Many thanks. Figured it was something like that but am far from awake enough for logical thought yet. =)

I’d be so eager for a beta key, that I actually posted for once. Signed up a while ago, but laziness won the battle of wills to post.
Game looks very intriguing over the last few months judging by the information they’ve posted on their website. I liked the flexibility their class system seems to offer, with the initial soul, customising the soul and even replacing the soul(s) if you decide they’re not for you. That and most things with a fantasy setting tend to catch at least a moment of my attention.

Ah man, this is lame. I sent an email like 3 minutes after the article was up, but because I don’t use an email client, I couldn’t use the link with the subject in it, and because of this I didn’t realize that I might have had to use a specific subject and now I might be too late for the party. :(

If that is a capital city, where are all the houses?
24/11/2010 at 13:06 Koozer says:
Common sense? How dare you.
24/11/2010 at 13:40 K says:
Did you miss the part where this said “WoW clone”? Of course there are no houses. But you’ll have twenty billion different skins for your mount.
24/11/2010 at 15:39 Dances to Podcasts says:
Um… WoW cities have houses…
24/11/2010 at 18:35 Shadram says:
Yeah, the majestic city of Stormwind has at least 3 houses, and I think Ironforge has one too… Everything else is a shop. Horde don’t need houses, we’re tough.

Looks good- I’ve just subscribed to RPS.. Not for a key (I do want one) but because I never noticed you could! £1.35 per month? Bargain.

hope i get one of these keys!
24/11/2010 at 18:48 DJ Phantoon says:
Well, the concept is interesting enough. You’ll have to let us know what you all think of it!
24/11/2010 at 22:17 DigitalSignalX says:
Sanctum is the name of a faction capitol in the AION MMO as well, curious they would use a name famously (perhaps) associated with another game.
24/11/2010 at 22:19 DrazharLn says:
You call that a dome!?
Behold this shining dome.
25/11/2010 at 06:58 Torgen says:
Hmm I became a subscriber over a week ago, but received no such offer of a beta key. Perhaps they were all given out before RPS got down to my name on the list? Or maybe it’s because I’m a filthy Yank?
I wouldn’t have been interested in this particular deal, but if there is some snafu, I’d like to fix it before I miss out on something I’d like. : )
26/11/2010 at 09:13 Melf_Himself says:
Wow… “Sanctum” is the name of one of the capital cities in Aion. The PvP in Aion is all about “Rifts” that form all over the place. And “Trion” sounds just like “Aion”.
Is it proper to accuse a game of ripping off a game that clearly itself ripped off a game, which if we’re honest really ripped off another game?
Perhaps, perhaps not. But one thing is certain.
FAIL.

Is that like a speciality porn site? “Shoes f*cking” I’d be very scared to click the link, and not only because of the threat of viruses and keyloggers…
