Gotham City! It is Batman’s house. The new trailer from Sony Online Entertainment for exciting MMORPG DC Universe Online shows you all around this legendary city, but there is not a Batman to be seen. Shh. Maybe he’s sleeping. When he’s sleeping, does Batman become Sleepman? Think about it.
Course, what you actually need to do is imagine each of these environments containing 4 or 5 Batmen lookalikes apiece, all of them with names like Batmam and Batmang.

Batman never sleeps.

You sleep, I’m awake. I don’t sleep. I don’t blink. Am I a bird? No, I’m a bat. I am Batman. Or am I? Yes, I am Batman.

It’s funny because it’s true.

It’s an MMO, so there’s bound to be a Botman.

Buffman, Tankman, Nukeman and Healer man meet in a Alley Crime to kill Boss “Mini Boss” Boss.
The first time these 4 where in the alley, the boss was busy getting his face broken by Pet man, Sorcer man, Brute man and Healingmonkey man. So waited, and waited, until Boss was dead. Then killed him again.
And Boss dropped “Big Soulderpads of Destiny”. Healer rolled need. Buffman and Nukeman rolled greed, and Tankman accidentally rolled Pass.
So we are here again. On the Alley. And another group is killing Boss man.
This time Tankman is going to roll need.
This time … but then Healerman typed on OOC chat “sorry guys, go to go”.
MMO’s games are like a crazy DC comic episode where there are more people with powers *literally everywhere* than normal people.

Gotham City has a location called Crime Alley? No wonder they have problems.
25/11/2010 at 10:14 Cypher3au says:
Just be grateful they didn’t go the Harry Potter-ish route and call it ‘Crimin Alley’.
25/11/2010 at 21:13 tycho says:
You think that’s bad? Try walking along Murder Boulevard at night.
25/11/2010 at 23:28 Sarkhan Lol says:
You know the worst part? Some litterbug left a rose lying smack in the middle of the walk! I see that again, I’m going to dump it straight in the trash, then get a picture of me next to it giving the camera a thumbs-up and send it to Batman, so he’ll know that there are still good men out there who are doing their best to ‘clean up’ the streets. HEH.

He becomes the Sandman
25/11/2010 at 10:14 AndrewC says:
But he doesn’t bat when he’s Batman, he fights crime but dressed as a bat. So when he sleeps he isn’t Sleepman, but Snuggletimes-Heart-Jammies-Man.
It stands to reason.
25/11/2010 at 10:22 Quintin Smith says:
Or maybe just Buffman.

Jason-Todd’s-Old-Costume-Man.

If he poos, does he become Scatman?
I’ll get me coat.
EDIT; oh balls. Just call me captain unoriginality.

Can’t help but think of how awesome a game in this locale/universe could be.
But then the cynicism kicks in and I can just imagine the “Go to Arkham and kill 74 crazy criminals, then come back for an item” quests.

By AndrewC’s logic, we can now confirm he does become Sleepman.
It is possible to follow this train of thought and really lower the tone.
Edit: Save me Reply System, you’re my only hope.

I… didn’t read any of the words, and so was under the impression this was Arkham Asylum 2 footage. Had me pretty surprised when it looked ten years old. Come on MMOs, surely if all the graphics are done client side you can actually manage to be pretty.
Or is it that they have to put out such a vast continent of content that the developers can’t afford more than a dozen polygons per scene?
25/11/2010 at 14:28 Dances to Podcasts says:
It’s because the game has to draw a world, rather than a corridor.

25/11/2010 at 14:39 Jake says:
Batman has regular problem-solving micro-sleeps. I am similar, but I have regular problematic macro-sleeps.
I really think that the Gotham City mayor’s office should strongly consider demolishing all creepy funfairs within 100 miles of the place. Joker is definitely going to need a thematic headquarters, at least inconvenience him into having to use a mini-golf course or something.
25/11/2010 at 15:22 DrazharLn says:
As someone who just missed 2 hours of lectures, a tutorial and 2 hours of labs due to a lie in; I can sympathise on the problematic macro sleeps issue.
As to Joker in a mini-golf course, that would be excellent.
25/11/2010 at 17:48 Tilla says:
This game is actually pretty decent for a mostly themeparked MMOs. The cities feel pretty big and also natural, and it’s just nerdy as fuck fighting alongside your favorite DCU heroes and villains. The combat is CRISP too, mouse-click combos for melee and ranged attacks and normal MMO number buttons for specials. I’m seriously considering buying it if we hear about future content more – the biggest negative side right now is that there are only 30 levels and they go by really quickly.
