It’s that time of year, where everything is cheap and I am not allowed to leave my PC for more than 47 minutes, for fear of missing out on the next MEGABARGAIN. Please send food. All of the relevant digital distribution services have started fantastic sales already, for the giving of the thanks, and then after that the Christmas sales will kick off. All of the irrelevant ones have discounted Dark Void by 50% and that’s it. Keep your browser targeted at SavyGamer.co.uk to make sure you never miss out on any cheap games. GamersGate Not Too Pricey Either
By John Walker on November 26th, 2010.

Steam’s not the only place to pick up some gaming bargain’s this sales day, by the way. As the extremely peculiar nature of Black Friday starts to leak out of its host country and start affecting the rest of the world that doesn’t even have Thanksgiving, we’re able to take advantage of the bargains, with none of the serious neck injuries or hurtful comments. And GamersGate has a whole bunch of bargains on at the moment that we’ve not pointed you toward. F’rinstance, Alpha Protocol, £20 on Steam, is 75% off and just £5 over there. Or Batman: Arkham Asylum GOTY for £6.79. I can’t be arsed listing them all – what am I, their sales representative? No I am not. But if you’re hunting for bargains and the game you’re after isn’t discounted in Valve’s grey box, you might get lucky. Although I must confess I’m not too impressed with their RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 deal. See below:
Swords And Soldiers HD Out Dec 1st
By Quintin Smith on November 26th, 2010.

Stripped down, side-scrolling RTS Swords and Soldiers HD was meant to be out back in September. Now we hear it’s arriving on December 1st. Lucky for developers Ronimo Games the RPS dogma is big on forgiveness specifically when it comes to games containing Vikings. RPS First Vandalism Battalion? At ease.
This game managed to raise Alec’s tired robotic eyebrow when he saw it back at GamesCom ’10, and I think it looks fun too. For those of you with troubled attention spans I’ve re-posted a trailer below.

By Alec Meer on November 26th, 2010.

This is my job now. I tell you what’s discounted on Steam, which ones are best, and link to them. Would you like me to dance for you? Would you? Fine. [Shuffles awkwardly, humming Lady Gaga.] Happy now? ARE YOU?
Yes, day three of the Steam sale is on. Highlight is – once again – the indie bundle, this time designated ‘Clever‘ and offering VVVVVV, Eufloria, World of Goo, Doc Clock and Iron Grip: Warlord for £4/$5. Crissakes! Crazy-cheap!

Shmup Demo: Chrono Rage
By John Walker on November 26th, 2010.

Schmup. Shmup shmup shmup. If Bill Watterson had known about Robotron he’d totally have written this strip differently. Shmup. An example of one of those (by which I mean a shmup) is Chrono Rage, by Anima Games, and it’s a shmup. There’s a demo – a brief glimpse of the game which is a shmup, but one that throws a big variety of enemies at you each time you play it. It seems quite a fun shmup, in a not-quite-Geometry-Wars sort of way. Geometry Wars is a 360 shmup. But it does have 360 controller support, which is a good thing in a shmup. The full game costs $10, but demos, demos are free. There’s a video of this shmup below.
Shmup.
Girl!!! Knife!!! Fight!!!: Don Quixote
By Quintin Smith on November 26th, 2010.

Obscure finds don’t come any more sinister than this. Sent in by RPS reader Martin “The Wet Sleuth” Kingsley, Don Quixote is a Korean indie game about girls cutting on one another. According to this blog post there’s also some kind of inpenetrable plot involved, but in terms of what you’re actually doing, you are trying to kill another girl with a sharp object and gradually grinding your way towards new moves it the finest Korean gaming fashion. Footage below.

Grotesque Tactics: Evil Heroes Out, Demo
By Quintin Smith on November 26th, 2010.

Here’s an oddball for you. Grotesque Tactics: Evil Heroes is a tactical RPG put together by a four-man team who describe their game as “ironic”. The plot follows a young wannabe hero called Drake who fails the final exam at his military academy only for all of his successful classmates to go off and die in a terrible battle. In the subsequent and deeply awkward quest to save the world, Drake teams whoever he can find, including criminals, the world’s greatest hero (since fallen from grace) and “still the most dangerous of all creatures, whose help they could seek: WOMEN!”
Any takers? There’s a German demo out, but the installer apparently lets you change the language to English. Trailer follows…

Wife And Two Squids: Octodad Again
By John Walker on November 26th, 2010.

I’ve heard this terrible rumour. Apparently there are one or two readers who didn’t download Octodad when Quinns posted about it two weeks ago. Well, look, we’re giving you a second chance. There’s a new trailer, packed with in-game footage, and we’re asking you to watch it, apologise, then download it. In case it’s unclear, it’s a game about an octopus pretending to be a human, a husband, a father of two. But it takes a really original approach to that tired old cliche. See below.
Green Man Gaming Offer £1 Trial Weekend
By Quintin Smith on November 26th, 2010.

Here’s some news courtesy of Beefjack- looks like it’s not just Steam that’s performing cut-price shenanigans right now. As of today, Green Man Gaming are offering what they call a ‘Try and Trade’ deal. Basically, you buy and download any one of the selected games, and if you ask for your money back before Midnight PST on Sunday they’ll refund all but £1/$1/€1. More than that, Ice-Pick Lodge’s nightmare afterlife sim The Void is one of the game’s on offer! Here is me talking passionately about The Void. Here’s that link to the offer again. You know what you gotta do. You do.
EDIT: Aiee, turns out that refund takes the form of store credit, turning this from a lovely offer into a lovely offer with a tiny barb stuck inside it. Careful, readers.
Steam Sale Day 2: Recettear For £4
By Alec Meer on November 26th, 2010.

Or rather “Recettear plus Gish, And Yet It Moves, Jolly Rover and Puzzle Agent” for £4/€4.5/$5.”
An incredible price for the incredibly lovely Recettear alone. Go gets. Also discounted today are EVE Online, Defense Grid, Cities XL, Audio Surf, Kane & Lynch 2 and Arkham Asylum. Only ten hours left, as the RPS collective was too busy waging its vigilante war against street crime last night to post this when it first happened.
Serve The Servants: Server Suggestions?
By Jim Rossignol on November 26th, 2010.

I have a question for you. Currently we run servers for Team Fortress 2, Battlefield Bad Company 2, and Minecraft. If we were to start another community server, what should it be? Your suggestions please, readers.
