Yeah, sure, Kinect hacks are this month’s Minecraft creations, but get over it. Because this one’s about turning into a superhero. And FIRING LASER BEAMS OUT OF YOUR EYES. Attention got.
I briefly mentioned yesterday, Microsoft has stated that it has no intentions of releasing a Kinect for the PC, but the tech types behind the device are working with ASUS on something extremely similar. The WAVI Xtion will be properly revealed this Summer.
Spotted by Joystiq, this is my favourite so far. You can see the video below.
He throws his hat and it boomerangs back to his head!
No… words… They should have sent… a… poet.

Let me be (one of) the first to state that “the WAVI Xtion” is a really horrible name.

Just call it ‘Wavey’. Adverts can involve waving.

What a finish. Wonderful.
Still hard to see how this would work its way into a game, but every hack is a joy to watch. So good.

I just love that fact that they are “hacking” this thing, there’s bound to pop up something really amazing and useful sooner or later.

That is awesome. In a very sad kind of way, but still awesome!

They’ll make a real superhero simulator. Just you wait and see. It’ll create holograms of baddies for you to beat up and everything.

Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from
magicbeing drunk. This is awesome. Also, Imagine this:
– put your childrens in the front of the TV.
– take two puppets
– make so what you do with the puppets shows on the TV, edited in real time by kinect to look awesome
– do some puppet story for your childrens.

Someone’s already making one, sorry to say. Don’t have the link though … or the knowledge if I’d be allowed to post such a thing.
05/01/2011 at 17:03 Soon says:
So there is. But it doesn’t do much with the potential though, it’s still basically using your hand as the game cursor, which is pretty tame when it has the potential to replicate the entire you into the scene instead.

The effects used in this really remind me of that show, Knightmare. I’m now considering how this could be used to create a home version of that show O_O

I would like invest in your idea. I currently only have some buttons and a piece of green string, you can have this for a ten percent share.

For anyone unfortunate enough to have not grown up watching Knightmare, check out this video:

It’s from an American perspective (booo, hisss!) but Spoony is quite able to sum up why it was so great.

Seems a little late for that. Kind of like having no intention of releasing MAME on the PC.
