Ferry Good News: Ship Simulator Ferry Pack

By John Walker on February 25th, 2011 at 4:56 pm.

EEEEEEEEEOOOOOOONNNNNNNOOOOOOWWWWWWWW

You may remember Quintin’s foray into the world of Ship Simulator Extremes last year. He really doesn’t know boats. But he does know bugs. A lot of the launch issues have apparently been ironed out since, and today they bring news of a DLC pack. Think of the most extreme boats in the world. No! More extreme than that! Extremier than you’ve ever dared to imagine! That’s right: ferries. Those bad boys, those bastards of the high seas, are now in there. There’s a trailer to prove it below!

The press release understands the gravity of this news. It states,

“New, ferry specific gameplay is waiting ahead. Prepare yourself now.”

But can we? HOW CAN WE?!

But maybe they meant financially. The new content is bloody expensive. For the following,

- 5 new Ferry types (Fast, Channel, River, etc.) available in Campaign, Free Roam and Multiplayer mode.
– Ferry specific gameplay: Ferry ramp & door opening for loading/unloading, Directional switch for two-ender ferries, etc.
– New Ferry campaign featuring 10 missions all over the world
– Ferry mission functionality added to the Mission Editor, allowing for creation and sharing of Ferry specific missions

you’ll be paying $14.99 or €14.99 (which seems a little unfair, since €15 is currently worth $20).

The full game costs a hefty amount for such a niche topic at €40 ($55, £35). They say they’ve sold 550,000 copies across the series of three games, so kudos to Paradox there. So it’s quite an investment if you want to deliver passengers back and forth. It’s due out on the 8th March, and it looks like this:

If anyone can withstand the HIGH DRAMA music over the extraordinarily low speed movement without laughing, they’re a better person than me.

Free Roam mode? Can I dock wherever the hell I like and deliver people to mystery locations? I’d go on THAT ferry.

    • 12kill4 says:

That’s called Sydney Ferries. That mystery location may in fact be the sea floor…

  2. DXN says:

The water does look pretty cool in the last shot!

  3. Mr_Hands says:

Paradox certainly caters to a strange market. On their forums I once saw someone post (in what I must assume was all seriousness) “Look at that main menu. Hot damn!”

If that person ever plays The Chronicles of Riddick, he’s gonna have an orgasm

  4. President Weasel says:

Is it more extreme than Quinn’s dad’s Extreme Rafting Shenanigans? I suspect not.

I can’t but push the boat out due to this news!

These puns just shipwright themselves, don’t they?

I have a sinking feeling we’re gonna go overboard with all this gross register punnage.

    • President Weasel says:

Hopefully we can funnel all the bad puns into replies to this post.

    • Sarlix says:

I knew there would be puns! but some how sailed right past these. But when I did sea them it hit my like a wave. So I thought I would cruise down to the bottom and anchor in mine. Because as they say, moors the better. I just hope no one harbors a grudge against me for going overboard. :D

That nearly made me keel over, Sarlix! You really put the “pun” in harpoon.

    • Sarlix says:

      lol :D

    • Chunga says:

Oh, where’s Bryan Ferry when you need him?

  6. Flint says:

    Ferry good news, this.

    • Flint says:

Amazingly I searched through the post carefully to see if this obvious pun not had been made and then missed the title entirely. I’m not a ferry observant reader.

At last: Triangle, the computer game.

I survived 30 seconds..and then I kept wondering when the action actually starts….it didn’t. The climax was the lowering ramp…it’s coming doooooooooooooooooooooooooooooown….woohoo! Thrilling :)

Obligatory Dub of video with nautical themed TV show music. Unfortunately, the Hawaii Five-0 theme, and the Magnum PI theme just weren’t cutting it for this video. So I went for something different.

  11. Zenicetus says:

Bah! Nothing extreme about that. Here’s ‘yer extreme ferry:

I can’t even scroll the page on RPS now due to the horrible Flash ads you have for Total War 2 now, let alone watch any trailers.

Please remove them (the ads, not the trailers).

    • faelnor says:

That’s exactly where the line is drawn for me. Do you want my ad money RPS? Then tell eurogamer to stop providing you flash ads that slow down my computer and worsen my experience. Simple.
Until then, AdBlock is my friend.
