If Only There Was Some Kind Of Game Trailer

By Jim Rossignol on February 3rd, 2011.

You know, I was just sat here thinking: it’s been hours since I posted a game-related trailer footage. Ideally it would be a trailer in which dudes gets shot, other dudes get kicked, and even more dudes get exploded. It would also contain voice-over in which some slightly sinister older guy talks about weapons in a creepy way. Now THAT WOULD BE SOMETHING.

THQ Says 40k MMO Due By March 31, 2013

By Jim Rossignol on February 3rd, 2011.

That’s because they told their investors that the maximalist sci-fi Warhammer game is going to fall in the “fiscal year 2013″. That’s an imaginary year made of numbers that falls between April 2012 and March 2013. So the field is pretty wide, but we can expect it to turn up by the end of 2012, maybe. There’s actually a surprising amount of information available on the game, given that is is so far away, and we still seem to know almost nothing about it. See this interview, and also this trailer, and this screenshot gallery.

Spiral Talk Orion: Prelude, Kickstarter

By Jim Rossignol on February 3rd, 2011.

If you’ve been following the development of Orion: Prelude – the sci-fi action game of jetpack combat and dinosaurs – then you might be aware that the recently team appealed to crowd-sourced money thing Kickstarter to get the project funded. I took some time to take to Spiral’s David Prassel about raising money through Kickstarter, and the overall state of the project. Read on for elucidation.

Men Of War: Fresh Beta, Release Date

By Jim Rossignol on February 3rd, 2011.

Men Of War is one of my favourite RTS games, because it’s brilliant. The new skirmish/multiplayer version of the game, Assault Squad, is currently in an open beta. If you have even the vaguest interesting in ordering tanks and tiny men to their deaths, then you should have a go at it. 1c also send word that digital and retail copies will be available February 25th. So not long to go! The co-op games played in the previous beta were among my gaming experiences of 2010 – as detailed here – so I can’t wait for this game to be on general release.

Saints Row 3 Confirmed For Autumn

By John Walker on February 3rd, 2011.

An exclusive logo from THQ HQ.

I wield a lot of power. What I’m saying is, you should fear me. I was only bemoaning the lack of Saints Row 3 confirmation a couple of weeks back, and THQ instantly leapt into action. “Volition!” they screamed. “Walker needs the third instalment! WORK HARDER!” And so it is, with the news that a third in the anarchic and puerile series will be with us this Autumntide. THQ CEO Brian Farrell told listeners to a conference call,

“Volition is setting a new bar for this outstanding franchise and we look forward to unveiling this game in the near future.”

He didn’t say whether this bar would be high or low. I’m really hoping for low. Come on Volition, what have you got that’s more gross than the shit-spraying lorry. There’s no web presence for the game yet, and certainly no screenshots. Do hurry up. Ooh, I want to play some Saints Row 2 now.

DC Universe Reveals First Chunk Of Content

By Quintin Smith on February 3rd, 2011.

We asked Richard Cobbett Wot He Thought of DC Universe Online yesterday, and his conclusion was (spoiler!) that while he enjoyed himself he wouldn’t be subscribing for a second month. I doubt the following will be enough to change his mind, but IGN has revealed the first boistrous mess of content coming to the game in February. There’s one of those fancy pre-rendered trailers, too. Excitements!

Attack Of The Gloom: F.E.A.R. 3 Screenshots

By John Walker on February 3rd, 2011.

Yeah, you did the standing and staring thing maybe a bit too often in the first two games.

F.E.A.R. 3, as Monolith still insist on naming it, is out at the end of March. The March Of A Million Games, as I will now start calling it. Copyright. Trademark. Patent. But what, you scream at the sky, does it look like? Well, if you’ll make your way downstairs to the creepy, poorly lit basement, you’ll find eleven new creepy, poorly lit screenshots.

Derek Smart Talks Line Of Defense, Alganon

By Jim Rossignol on February 2nd, 2011.

This is not Derek Smart
The man who made a career out of complex space-sims and controversy is moving on. Derek Smart is now president of Quest Online, and has been rebooting free-to-play MMO Alganon. He’s also just announced an ambitious MMOFPS, Line Of Defense. We talked to him about both these things in the interview that follows…

The Duty Calls: Bulletstorm Has A Mock

By Alec Meer on February 2nd, 2011.

UPDATE: full walkthrough video below. War never changes. War has changed.

I’m still downloading this, but I’ll point you at it while we all work out what it is. The origin: a tweet from EA reading “Stay Frosty @Bulletstorm fans. Download a FREE version of the most epically epic FPS ever: Duty Calls.” The destination: TheDutyCalls.com, a 765Mb download, a whole lot of cheeky references to Call Of Duty, and the below video.

BUT WHAT IS IT? I’ll tell you if this bloody download ever finishes. 765Mb? This is surely more than a cheap pun…

Lego Pirates Of The Caribbean Pics, Trailer

By John Walker on February 2nd, 2011.

It sure looks like a Lego game on a beach.

Not only are we soon getting Lego Star Wars III, but this Summer brings us Lego Pirates Of The Caribbean. As Alec observed last November, they do seem a perfect triplet of movies (with a fourth this May, the game released alongside it) for the Traveller’s Tales treatment. Not much is known yet, other than the obvious (squillion characters, smash stuff, build stuff, levels represent film scenes) but the first trailer has appeared on MTV’s site. And by the magic of embedding, it’s also below. Along with some brand new (not very good) screenshots.
