Minecraft Is Getting Ready For Bed

By John Walker on February 18th, 2011.

Who's that there with Steve?

Fetch your pyjamas, a glass of milk, and Teddy. Next Tuesday sees a new update for Minecraft, and Rock, Paper, Shotgun can exclusively reveal it will contain… beds! At last you can rest your weary cuboid legs and snooze the nights away. When it first appears next week, building yourself a bed will mean you can skip night times by taking a nap, and jump up to catch the dawn, ready to continue your daylight explorations. That’s phase one.

The Very Important List Of PC Games, Part 5/5

By Kieron Gillen on February 18th, 2011.

Lessons.
As a retired don in the great university of the bedroom, I wasn’t expecting to be aroused by Professor Rossignol. Later, I was also disturbed when he woke me up, demanding that I spout some waffle on the importance of some games none of the current faculty really felt able to talk about with confidence. Of course, with my famous arrogance, I felt confident to talk confidently about anything, and damn the fellow who says otherwise.

The rest of the faculty’s chosen games may be found here. Oh, and I see those Intel chaps sponsored the whole thing! They certainly do have a sense for the purposes of ballyhoo.

Wot I Think – Men Of War: Assault Squad

By Jim Rossignol on February 18th, 2011.

A little bit of a world exclusive, this one. We were lucky enough to be the first publication to get our hands on the complete build of Men Of War: Assault Squad, and I’ve been reviewing the hell out of it. I’ve already been spending a lot of time on the beta, but now we’ve been able to look at the full thing. And it’s kind of awesome. Up front I want to say one thing: people who were worried about the skirmish and multi-player focus detracting from the single-player challenge have nothing to fret about. The fifteen skirmish maps are all excellent, and are close to constituting a new campaign in their own right. But there are some caveats to that, obviously. Here’s Wot I Think.

CCP Confirm “Captain’s Quarters” For Eve

By Jim Rossignol on February 18th, 2011.

With the new avatars in and the game trundling towards is ambition of having all the pilots have their own fully-ambulatory avatar to walk around the interior of space stations, CCP are starting to make progress towards giving players more than just a ship to play with. According to this devblog the “Captain’s Quarters”, complete with your avatar inhabiting it, will appear on Eve’s test server within the next six weeks. It’s going to be single player, essentially offline to begin with, but it’s the first stage, say CCP, to implementing the full “Walking In Stations” tech. I’ve posted the original demo from 2008, so you can see what CCP are aiming for with this.

Thanks to everyone who sent this in.

In Other Telltale News…

By John Walker on February 18th, 2011.

scott great!

Not only is episode 2 of Telltale’s Back To The Future out today, but there’s also confirmation that they are indeed working on a game based on the comic/TV show The Walking Dead. The super-glum series focuses on the lives of a group of survivors post-zombie apocalypse, and seems like yet another unlikely choice for the episodic point-n-clickers. Telltale have confirmed a multi-year, multi-platform development deal, made in collaboration with Robert Kirkman. The first installment is due by the end of the year. A brief interview with Kirkman on IGN yields no other information about the game, other than that it will be episodic. Meanwhile, you can find the new BTTF trailer below.

ROAR: First Jurassic Park Trailer Stomps In

By John Walker on February 18th, 2011.

doyouthinkhesawus

The first trailer for Telltale’s Jurassic Park game has appeared. This is the first time we’ve seen game footage, albeit seemingly mostly cutscene, of a title that’s certainly surprised people. How will the episodic adventure people handle a license that seems to be so action orientated? Well, for starters, with a look that’s completely new for their projects. This is the first time we’ve seen something that isn’t heavily cartoonish. And for seconders, it’s a third-person adventure.

The Longest Day: 24 Hours In White Gold

By Quintin Smith on February 17th, 2011.

White Gold: War In Paradise, aka Xenus 2, aka Boiling Point 2 is the free-roaming FPS-RPG we’ve been meaning to take a closer look at for ages. A sequel to the famously mad, broken and ambitious Boiling Point (of which even the patch notes are comedy gold) from original Kiev-based developers Deep Shadows! What could be more exciting? What, indeed. An account of my first in-game day follows. It is a tale of daring-do, heavy drinking, a snake, a beautiful car and an enema.

Shogun 2: The Multiplayer Options Footaging

By Jim Rossignol on February 17th, 2011.

So it seems that the men of The Creative Assembly are keen to talk to us about about the resplendently buffed multiplayer features of their new strategy game, Shogun 2. With that in mind, they’ve gone and fashioned a trailer to outline some of said multiplayer features. The hats you can put on your general are, frankly, ludicrous, but there are more intriguing things still, like unit veterancy. Go take a look, and marvel at the speeded up speediness of it.

Natural Selection 2 Is “Dynamically Infested”

By Jim Rossignol on February 17th, 2011.

Dynamic infestation is not pictured in this picture, which pictures aliens being fought by soldiermen. But it is pictured in a new video diary from the Natural Selection 2 beta developement thing. Excitingly, I have used 21st century internet technology to make it visible in the extended version of this blog post. Unknown Worlds’ Charlie Cleveland told us: “As you may remember, we got a ton of attention awhile back when we released a video of our first dynamic infestation prototype. We’ve since written our own engine (switched away from Source) but we now have a basic, playable, version of dynamic infestation, in-game and ready to test.” And that’s what is in the video.
And here it is >>

Also, Cities In Motion Is Demonstrated

By Jim Rossignol on February 17th, 2011.

Trams are like vagrant trains
Cities In Motion, the transport infrastructure game due on 22nd of Feb, has a demo out. Here it is. Apparently this limited version of the game allows you to build a small transport network. So you should do that. Then you can use your comprehension of the game to judge the veracity and cogency of our impressions of the game.

I Forgot About LoTR: War In The North

By Jim Rossignol on February 17th, 2011.

Okay, I have to admit that despite our last headline for this game being “Don’t Forget About LotR: War In The North“, I had forgotten about it. I am the worst. But wait! There’s a new developer diary for Snowblind’s hack and/or slash adventure game, which reminded me, and which you can see below. The devs talk about the fun they’re having making giant metal citadels in which people fight giant metal monsters, and, well, that does seem like it might be fun.

No exact release date for this, just “2011″. So that’s pretty vague.
