Swing! Baseball Mogul 2012 Demo

By John Walker on April 13th, 2011 at 4:01 pm.

First person who links to the Calvin & Hobbes smock cartoon wins most obvious link of the day.

Baseball season started a couple of weeks back (Phillies are 7-3 up, thanks for asking) which has grabbed the attention of all the nations in the World Series. Fortunately I’m in one of them – a place called “The United American States” – where they show the sport on all walls and areas of sky. And so the baseball games are appearing too, including Baseball Mogul 2012 – a management sim that boasts it offers you far more detail than most. Don’t believe them? Then try the demo.

In other news, the word “mogul” is fun to say. Mogul mogul mogul.

Presumably this lets you beat the likes of Gabon and Bangladesh before going on to be proclaimed World Champions?

  2. Richard Beer says:

I don’t like moguls. Tough on the knees and thighs.

  3. Big Murray says:

I didn’t think I’d see a game this year which made Farming Simulator 2011 look like a riproaring journey of excitement.

  4. Unaco says:

Phaw! What is this Baseball? It’s just not Cricket, is it.

    • Grape Flavor says:

At least you don’t have to take a 4-year course to understand the thing. ;) Cricket might as well be Calvinball to the uninitiated.

  5. Anthile says:

Baseball is already the most boring popular sport imaginable and that paired with a management sim, I can see its only use in curing insomnia.

    • Ian says:

      More boring than darts!?

    • Ysellian says:

      More boring than Curling?

    • enamelizer says:

It is almost as boring to watch as soccer, or as us yanks call it “European Football”.

    • Grape Flavor says:

I think baseball became known as “America’s pastime” only because no one had bothered to invent the other sports yet. I mean really, ever since other sports became televised it began rapidly losing ground.

There’s not anything wrong with it really, it’s just not terribly exciting. Even less exciting when your home team is goddamn terrible whereas your football team is one of the greatest sports franchises ever.

    • Nick says:

Its more boring because it lasts longer!

I’m more of a Out of the Park Baseball guy myself.

    • Jason Moyer says:

Yeah, I hope Out of the Park 12 gets some coverage here. Best baseball series ever, easily (better than Diamond Mind, even, imho).

    • leeder krenon says:

OOTP lacks charm. It has the spreadsheet aspects of Football Manager and none of the joy.

  7. Om says:

How about come coverage of the next Football Manager the next time you’re in Ingerland?

  8. Steve the ledge says:

Let’s go Mets! Urgh, why do I bother?

Still, Cole Hamels got destroyed. How does that feel, John? HOW DOES THAT FEEL?

  9. Wonko the Sane says:

    smock smock smock.
    Well, no-one else was…

    EDIT: WINNAR.

  10. A Little Lebowski says:

Derek Jeter, 76 power in 2007?!?! He only hit 12 home runs that year ffs! Game sucks for not agreeing with my perceptions…

Agreement down here that Out Of The Park is great fwiw. I wouldn’t imagine particularly accessible for those not already interested in baseball to be honest, but an excellent sports management sim.

  11. lunarplasma says:

So how does it compare to another sports-team-management-genre game like Football Manager 2010? As a person how plays neither I would really like to know.

  12. adonf says:

Mr Walker, the actual names are “base-to-the-ball” and “The United American States of America”. I know they are simple people but there is no need to mock our western cousins by distorting the silly names of that colony and of their recreational activities.

    • Dances to Podcasts says:

Because some American states are just more American than others!
