Seriously? One New Serious Sam 3 Screen

By Quintin Smith on April 21st, 2011 at 5:12 pm.

Here's hoping that helicopter's in the background rather than the foreground

As seems to be common practice in these cyber-times, Croteam have released a single new Serious Sam 3 screenshot. That’s it up there. Click for bigger, but be sure not to look at it all at once! Quick, look away! Now, look back! Away again! Back again! Away again! Back again! Away again! Back again! Away again! And finally back again*.

    Lens flare is so 2003.

    • frenz0rz says:

Indeed, and Serious Sam is so 2001.

Doesnt stop me from really looking forward to a new one though :)

      report

    • BAReFOOt says:

I only see a shielded area. Or maybe a pressure wave? :P

      report

    • Urthman says:

I think of Serious Sam as so 1993. In a good way.

      report

    • smi1ey says:

I think you’re confusing Lense Flare with God Beams. SO different.

      report

    • Wulf says:

One of the many names for crepuscular rays! It actually surprises me how many there are, and I wasn’t familiar with that one until just now. I’d heard ‘god rays’ but ‘god beams’ is yet another new one.

      report

    • Dhatz says:

what doesnt surprise me is how they stil can’t figure out that the rays are the only solution to volumetric shadowing of particles because god rays only appear if there is substance in the environment.

      @smi1ey

No, no, no, at the base of the worm-thing, silly!

      report

    • Dhatz says:

I dont know how people can accept lens flare if theyre supposed to be plaing a FPS meatbag.

  2. Pop says:

Hah! The fools, when it comes time to release my game, I shall trump them with a FRACTION of a screen shot.

    report

    • Colthor says:

Games Workshop actually do this with pics of forthcoming models. I shit you not.

      report

    • zbeeblebrox says:

Forget fractions. When I start releasing info on my game, the media will be LUCKY if they get more than a couple pixels of a screenshot at a time.

      report

    • Pop says:

      @ zbeeblebrox,

Love that. I’m going to give each outlet a pixel each everyday and see whether they can piece it together. It’ll be like the ValveARG, only cooler.

      report

    • Ridnarhtim says:

I will create a massive ARG full of puzzles and tricks and impossibly hard challenges, and each will unlock a new pixel (a colour, and 2 coordinates) to a screenshot.

      report

  3. Longrat says:

Now THAT is a screenshot I can root for. So much better than mass effect’s screenshots.

… guys, I think you’ve been playing too much Portal lately :)

  5. Muzman says:

    Disappointed.
The horrid sand monster doesn’t have tickets to that thing I love.

    report

  6. ZIGS says:

The only thing that screenshot did was make me even less interested in a game I already had little interest in (not really a fan of those mindless shooters)

    report

    • serious sam is mindless for about the first 10 minutes of the game. after that you have to use ur brain and play skillfull to finish the game. trust me you DO spam enemies with bullets in serious sam but they also spam you back and you have to do some crazy dodging to survive some of the bigger fights.

      report

  7. Marshall Stele says:

    …is the picture suddenly diamonds?

    report

  8. Cooper says:

Knowing Serious Sam games, that chopper probably is in the background. Which is a good thing.

    report

    • Vague-rant says:

Ha! The chopper is actually huge, just far away and the worm is about 1 inch in front of the camera. The next few Serious Sam screens will be using forced perspective of the same scene in several clever ways, until we get the whole picture.

I know this isn’t what you mean, but I wish it were true.

      report

  9. Cyber Rat says:

The sky is blue. Any qualms about purchasing this game are gone now. Thank you, screenshot.

    report

  10. Petethegoat says:

Is that volumetric sand I see?

    mmmmmmmm

    report

    • zbeeblebrox says:

Considering the beams of light projecting away from the helicopter, it appears to be volumetric *everything*

      report

  11. squareking says:

So good, it must be fattening!

    report

  12. Postal76 says:

Sounds like someone has been playing Portal 2.

    report

  13. Navagon says:

    Sandworms!

I don’t see this game playing like an unofficial Tremors game somehow. But I’m sure they’ll make it work.

    report

  14. magnus says:

I got my look away and back agains mixed up, now I’m completely confused!

    report

  15. tsmike says:

    My God, is that…..colour?
I’ve been replaying the first and second encounter since they announced 3, it’s still bloody good fun. Can’t wait!

    report

  16. Yes, but what did Fork say about it?

    report

  17. skraeling says:

I wish this was a trick and the sand was the actual monster and that the world was composed of fleshy, toothy hills. And that the helicopter was the sun and the sun was a helicopter.

    report

  18. Bhazor says:

Not like Sam to be all coy with us.

Show us the goods damn it!

    report

  19. Dana says:

A Helicopter ? I have a bad feeling about this.

    report

  20. thepaleking says:

I can’t wait to explode all over that thing with my gigantic rocket launcher.
