A Serious Sam game without its screaming headless bombermen, the Kamikazes, would not be a Serious Sam game. Hence, it has now been indisputably proven that the upcoming Serious Sam 3: BFE is definitely a Serious Sam game. The bellowing explodey-blokes are back, but they’re… different.
The shot above demonstrates how these chaps have evolved and changed across the Serious Sam series, but below is how they look in-game. High-res versions available if only you can work out how to make that clicking-finger of yours works.
So: the headless men now have heads. Or some kind of cyclopean robo-spider which vaguely evokes Half-Life’s Headcrabs, anyway. And they’ve got fingers around the bombs instead of bombs-as-hands. It looks good, as a character model goes, but the moany purist in me worries that they’ve thrown out the comedy element of the good old screamers in favour of something a little more horror-like, a little more Quake… Heads. Nng.
Oh well. As long as they bellow like lunatics, I’ll be happy.

Cro-mag = Cro-Magnon people (aka “cave men”).

I’d always thought they had bombs-for-hands as well. But even if you look closely at the first image in this article, you can see the left hand under the bomb.

Judging by all the screenshots so far, Serious Sam 3 does indeed look like it has a pretty serious case of colour deficiency, and indeed in the worst case that might be the result of, result in, or be in some way related to a more serious tone than the earlier games.
Seriously though, I’m not sure if Croteam would even be capable of going all generic grey and brown grimdark with any seriousness.

I’d say it has nothing to do with the amount of enemies as it has with simply bad texturing. The middle one on the first screenshot looks significantly better than the latest one, because the diffuse texture is painted better and doesn’t rely on the normal map to carry the details as much.

Huh. The model doesn’t look as good. Maybe it’s just a low resolution shot, but it looks messier in a bad way as opposed to in a real n’ gritty sort of way (which can also be bad, for different reasons). Graphical updates are worthless if you don’t maintain or improve the aesthetic.

loved the previous Serious Sam 3 screens, but this is disappointing, and I hate the new head. It adds a little bit of sense to the enemy, and that is completely out of place.

(My personal guess is Before First Encounter, but I don’t see why Croteam feels the need to hide the subtitle unless it’s patently ridiculous.)

That’s easy: Bum Fark, Egypt (although obviously without the euphemism, but I’ll avoid tripping any profanity filters here). An expression for the middle of the nowhere. They’ve already said the game takes place in Egypt, although the middle of nowhere doesn’t seem to be quite true given all the recently-ruined buildings they’ve shown in the screenshots.

They said they are going for more of a realistic look this time. That doesn’t mean the game won’t have it’s fair share of comedy, but think about it; The game is about an invasion of Earth by an evil alien race and they win. It has to have some sort of realistic feel to it honestly.
