The chaps at GoG.com have offered to sponsor our forum relaunch with a little competition. It’s going to work like this: we want you to go to this thread and post a capsule review of any game you like. It has to be shorter than one-hundred words, but can otherwise take on any format. The funniest, cleverest, and most inventive ten review authors – as decided by the RPS team – will each get to choose any single game from the GoG.com line-up (The Witcher 2 excluded).
You’ve got until Midday UK time on Monday. Go.

CD Projekt are accruing serious goodwill points of late.

Can we have more than one entries?
03/06/2011 at 14:51 Rii says:
and/or review multiple games in the space of 100 words?
03/06/2011 at 15:03 YeOldeSnake says:
I dont see the point of this

“I don’t see the point of this.”
Well, if they say it’s allowed just don’t do it, then. :-/
But I second the “Can we have more than one entry” thing.

There was a review competition where I entered ten reviews to stand a better chance of winning, but no review in ten did.
EDIT: Oops, that was in reply to YeOldeSnake.

I don’t mean to sound ungrateful, but my thought process goes lie this:
Can I write a funny review better than all the witty RPS readers can: No
Will I therefore bother entering the competition: No
As much as I am sure I will like to read the winners, this kind of competition is not for me. It’s too much work to perhaps win a $6 game (I do hope you chaps get paid more than $6/100 words!)
If the point is to advertise both GOG and the new forum this compo is not doing it for me.
Sorry. I hope you take the feedback in the friendly manner in which it is intended.

114 words.
03/06/2011 at 21:11 jonfitt says:
Gosh I sound grumpy.
I guess the point I was trying to make is the compo isn’t very inclusive as it is only aimed at people who like writing about games. As a promo that’s not a good idea.
03/06/2011 at 21:34 8-bit says:
well, from photoshop to screenshot hunting through the entire catalogue, competitions involving GOG generally require a lot of hard work. tbh the chance of winning vs work needed usually means that when GOG have a competition I have just not bothered, but in spite of my less than stellar grasp of grammar and poor sense of humor I will probably still give it a go.

My review was 58 words and took me less than 2 minutes to write. Games on gog cost $6 or $10 (or near enough). If I were to win then I will probably get a $10 game for 2 minutes work, if I were earning that much at work then I would a very happy person (that would $300 an hour). I don’t believe my review was bad but whether or not it is a winner is a very different question.
03/06/2011 at 16:03 Fede says:
Are pictures allowed? I mean, pictures containing no words.
03/06/2011 at 16:38 VelvetFistIronGlove says:
No, that would be ten times too long.
03/06/2011 at 17:53 Stellar Duck says:
Heh! I approve of that comment.
03/06/2011 at 16:08 JuJuCam says:
Will the reviews themselves be recorded somewhere other than the forum thread for posterity?
03/06/2011 at 16:13 The_B says:
I wonder if Gieron Killen will enter. You know, the guy who’s TOTALLY NOT Kieron Gillen…
03/06/2011 at 16:24 Vague-rant says:
Phew, quickly flicking through that thread, RPS folks love rhymes.
Good thing its only 100-words or I expect they’d spend weeks reading all of it. Still, can’t help but feel it’d be really hard to stand out in about 9 pages (and counting) worth of reviews.
Oh well, entered my own.
03/06/2011 at 18:14 The Pink Ninja says:
I assume only one review per-person?
03/06/2011 at 18:34 JohnnyMaverik says:
Cool, hats off to GOG, they never fail to get more awesome.
04/06/2011 at 07:44 sassy says:
They are probably going to regret keeping the competition open so long. The thread is already 19 pages long, with each page having 10 posts and every post having probably an average of 90 words, you end up already having about 17,000 words to read and judge. Who knows how many by Monday.

That thread is rather wonderful.
Seeing so many rhymes inspired me enough to add my own effort, can’t resist a bit of the old rhyme . . . err . .. roquefort?
