Kingdoms Of Amalur: The Reckoning hasn’t been seen all that often, and if it’s not something you’ve heard of you should probably expect to. 38 Studios, a team headed up by former baseball bloke Curt Schilling, took an enormous loan from Rhode Island to move their offices over there, which means Amalur’s kingdom is a cash-rich one. As demonstrated by the below…
That’s some pretty dynamic violence for an MMO Edit: it’s not the planned MMO of the same-ish name, but the singleplayer RPG which is to precede it, but I can’t help but notice a fair amount of war and craft in its world too.
If the fights really are that spectacular though, I’m pretty sure you’ll see me beating up a snake-god or whatever in there come its early 2012 release date.

Are you sure this is the MMO? Not the single player thing under the same name?

The combat animations look fun!
This is an odd trailer for a MMO though – I never got why MMOs are based around The Hero when there’s twentythousand other heroes running around as well.

Not to burst your bubble, chaps, but this is the single player game in the same universe. The MMO hasn’t been named, but I’m sure it will be Kingdoms of Amalur: Subtitle.

“Project Copernicus” is still the codename for the MMO, but there is no official name for it yet, you’re right.
This trailer didn’t look half bad.

since when it’s an MMO? I thought it was a prequel for an mmo

This looks like the normal single player game, not the MMO. Luckily.

Bad Alec! Confusing the ignorant with the prospect that this clearly-console-action-rpg from the Drizzt man is an MMO. For shame!
07/06/2011 at 08:44 Tiptoe says:
Damn! You gave me a fright there!
I’ve been looking forward to this game, but the thought that it might be a MMO made me feel sick to my stomach. Thank God you made a mistake and it turns out to be a single player game after all. All MMO’s should be consigned to the lowest depths of Hell where they belong!

Good call that, man!

this looks…pretty good?
hope they ditch the slow-mo-after-every-hit thing though. bit of a problem

My thoughts exactly. If it can’t be turned off, I’ll run out of interest very quickly.

“I can’t help but notice a fair amount of war and craft in its world too.”
My first thought also.

Is that the wilhelm scream at 0:45?
07/06/2011 at 09:59 magnus says:
Indeed it is and it makes a good ring-tone too!

Curt Schilling? Dude is gonna be in the baseball Hall of Fame lol.
An unexpected man to head a video game studio. Although, I don’t follow baseball so it could be he’s an avid gamer or something…

Those combat moves look pretty awesome.

This actually looks… good?
I’m getting a very strong Fable vibe from the look and style, but the animations look good and the combo-y bits look nice and meaty. Looks like I’ll be keeping a (lazy) eye on this one.
07/06/2011 at 09:42 Interstella says:
That was exactly my thought on seeing this. It does look extremely Fable-esque, but as you say, a bit meatier. It also has Ken Rolston, the lead designer of Morrowind and Oblivion, on board, so it could be interesting to see how it pans out. I have quiet hopes for this one…

Fable, WoW, indeed. meh. ‘been there, done that’.
07/06/2011 at 10:35 BigJonno says:
Definitely getting the Fable-ish vibe, which is no bad thing. I, for one, like colour and don’t want either grey’n'brown disease or the grimdark plague infecting all my fantasy RPGs.

I like a nice mix. I like my dark RPGs, I like my colourful ones.
The only thing really turning me off about this one is that I recall hearing R. A. Salvatore is behind the story/world, and ugh, after forcing myself to read some of the novels by him I was given as a gift that thought just repulses me.

What has no-one posted “Ding dong” yet?
Or maybe “Rock and Roll is king”?
Is it really just me that saw the title and thought that?
07/06/2011 at 21:40 Hensler says:
Looks like Fable, but with combat that is good.
07/06/2011 at 23:26 chelseascum says:
That’s exactly what I was thinking – Fable but ramped up to 11. Looks good.
