Come on then. Own up to your plans for spending the entire weekend playing Terraria, along with 432,000 other people. (I know!) Or have your gone back to one of the Battlefields after that hype for 3? I know I have. We’re totally having an RPS Battlefield 3 clan, you know that, right?
I’m also oddly tempted by Spiral Knights. But I can’t be sure.

APB: Reloaded.
Although probably only for 30 minutes, until I once again get pissed off at the constantly stuttering performance on my comp that should run it ok.
I keep meaning to drum up some APB action on the RPS forums, but, whilst it runs fine for most, it has some painfully poor optimisation for certain systems. Like mine. But it’s shaping up to be a pretty decent game, if team-based people shooting in a GTA rip off world is in anyway appealing…
17/06/2011 at 19:47 dan. says:
I will also be playing APB. You should hit up this thread, as we have a whole TWO (count ‘em!) people currently playing.
I’ll probably also finish off my second play through of Mass Effect and, maybe, jump on the RPS server for some Bad Company 2.
17/06/2011 at 20:02 ninjapirate says:
Mmmh… playing APB as well. I’ll have a look at that thread!

Terraria is definitely on my plate for the weekend, along with the games I just got in the Indie Variety pack via Steam.

I’m gonna jump into Death to Spies after I got it cheap off Get Games last weekend and only ended up playing the tutorial.
I also got Men of War cheap but the downloader seems to have borked that one.

Fallout: New Vegas.
That 15 minute Skyrim demo made me put down my controller for LA Noire and start playing New Vegas again. And now I’m hooked, for a 3rd time. This time I guess I should check out those Great Khans since I’ve completely ignored them.
18/06/2011 at 00:10 Vartesz says:
+1.
Playing it for the first time, and as someone who always wants to do every quest, the whole “kil-one-faction-in-order-to-advance-with-the-other-faction”-thing is driving me crazy ;). Can’t they just all coexist?
18/06/2011 at 10:54 battles_atlas says:
Feel your pain, for me heightened by my exploration method which resulted in me basically covering the whole map and all the sidequests before I even reached the Strip. As a result half the missions are screwed now. I wish they wouldn’t offer such freedom if they can’t code for it. Even though, or probably because, I had already convinced the Great Khans to (I think) attack the Legion, the NCR mission to sort them out got bugged, and I ended up having to slaughter them all just to progress. Felt kind of narked about that, given the two hours I’d spent previously buttering them up.
Downloading AC Brotherhood currently, my first taste of the series.
17/06/2011 at 18:27 tikey says:
Mass Effect, some Magicka and TF2 if I can get the time.
17/06/2011 at 18:27 Ysellian says:
It makes me all warm and fuzzy to see Indies be successful. ^_^ Anyway I’m probably going to be playing a little Starcraft 2 and Neverwinter Nights 2.
17/06/2011 at 18:27 Wodge says:
I just finished Mafia 2, and it turns out that Vito is a dick, so I’m currently at a loss for what to do, i guess it’s spiral knights as the beta was rather good fun indeed.
17/06/2011 at 19:57 Gar says:
I’m playing Mafia II right now, and I think I’m very close to the end? Joe and I were hanging on the top of some construction project building, I shot my way all the way to the bottom, and now I can’t figure out how to exit the damn building. Joe is still hanging out at the very top too, for some reason. Google results seem to suggest this is a fairly common glitch…
I think I’m going to try to give Dead Space another shot once I’m done with this game (if I even bother finishing), and if I can’t stick with that (I’ve tried 2 times already, quit after 15 minutes both times), I will probably move on to Mount and Blade: Warband
17/06/2011 at 18:27 jymkata says:
I’d set it up. I was going to play Baldur’s Gate almost nonstop (everyone I know seems to have fled london, so I had nothing else to do)
But then I found out that it didn’t want to run on my machine, and my character couldn’t run and I got all ADHD up in this bitch. So Project Zomboid/Season 2 of Deadwood

Same story, but with Alice.
17/06/2011 at 18:27 Coins says:
I’m trying to play Arma 2, but it’s so very complicated, I’m horrible at it. So I guess I’ll just return to Terraria. Trying to find a way to not get beat up by those damned imps.
17/06/2011 at 19:31 jonfitt says:
Where are you located (continent wise)? If you’re in the US I might be able to meet you on a server and explain some of Arma’s weirdness. If you’re in Europe, check out the RPS ARMA2 server thread in the forums.

I play Crysis 2!
AlabasterSlim on Steam or Gamespy.
I’ll also be playing some ARMA 2 this weekend as I do every weekend. Probably some Mount & Musket tonight as well.

17/06/2011 at 18:31 Jeremy says:
I will be logging some solid hours into Alpha Centauri as well as Fallout: New Vegas. Just picked up F:NV on sale, so I’ll get all up ons and maybe try and mod (read: mod, break, reinstall, repeat) the game a bit. I’ll also probably play a little Terraria, though I have a sneaking suspicion that I’m actually pretty bad at that game.
17/06/2011 at 18:31 Gnoupi says:
Some Terraria, some Quadsmash, an healthy dose of Brink, and probably some Magicka to warm up for the 21st

I think I’m finally going to get around to revisiting Far Cry 2, I’m appropriately in the mood for random machine gun violence.
It’s also Dreamhack this weekend, so I’ll probably be mostly watching that. Does watching games count here?
17/06/2011 at 18:31 Jams O'Donnell says:
I am playing games for the first weekend in MONTHS. I have to play some/all of:
Portal 2
Dirt 3
Spacechem
Amnesia
Hot Pursuit

And that’s Portal 2 finished. Companion cube! Next game!
17/06/2011 at 18:31 Kaira- says:
Probably I’ll do a rerun on “study for maths exam”, and after that I’ll probably play Winter Voices or Post Mortem/Still Life/Still Life II, depending on which I start.
17/06/2011 at 19:40 westyfield says:
I’ll be playing Maths Revision as well, and its sequel, Physics Revision: Maximum Planck.
17/06/2011 at 21:14 hexapodium says:
I only have the expandalone, Economics Revision. I’m glad they put out the JM Keynes content patch though, it was hugely unrealistic before. It’s still a bit arcadey now, to be honest, but the Financial Crisis DLC has completely changed the balance if you’re playing on a social democrat server.
18/06/2011 at 01:57 Wunce says:
Have you guys tried the spinoff: Discrete Mathmatics Revision? Most people don’t like the direction they took with the series but I feel that it gives for much more cerebral gameplay.
17/06/2011 at 18:31 Deano2099 says:
Dragon Age 2, finish of Phoenix Wright: Trials and Tribulations, and maybe a bit of LA Noire.
17/06/2011 at 18:32 Wizardry says:

17/06/2011 at 20:01 Wizardry says:
Of course I do.
17/06/2011 at 22:55 Jeremy says:
Lies!
17/06/2011 at 18:32 Koozer says:
I’ll be mostly on Terraria and poking at the innards of Gamemaker to wring some kind of ship equipment screen out of it.
Oh, and Link’s Awakening.
17/06/2011 at 18:32 Colthor says:
I’m going to try and get into Europa Universalis 3. If I can manage Dwarf Fortress, I can manage anything Paradox can throw at me! Right?
Otherwise I might play Halo: Original Dance Sound Track.
17/06/2011 at 18:43 Vandalbarg says:
Right! Although they’re complicated in different ways. A lot of DF’s legendary difficulty comes from the Byzantine labyrinth of a menu/controls which take a while to get used to, whereas EU3 is fairly easy to learn. If you’re big into strategy games as a whole you’ll take to it like a duck to war torn water. Enjoy!
17/06/2011 at 19:04 Coins says:
I think DF is easy compared to EU3, although some of the controls are just as well hidden…
17/06/2011 at 20:16 Colthor says:
Amusingly, the interactive tutorials in EU3: Complete are broken. Oops!
Never mind. I’ve picked Castille, the game’s telling me to conquer things, I have a big army, a big navy, and tiny, weedy neighbours. What can possibly go wrong?
17/06/2011 at 20:31 Om says:
Just don’t conquer so much that a) the rest of the world hates you (ie, your reputation) or b) your people hate you (ie, your stability). The biggest mistake that newcomers to EU make is to invade everything in a decade. Relax and pace yourself; you have centuries to play with
17/06/2011 at 18:32 Stompywitch says:
Probably Dungeon Siege 3, downloading right now!
Also looking to get a round or two of Space Hulk: Death Angel in, though…

Definitely back to Bad Company 2 for the moment, shifting between the regular game and Vietnam. Still got Battlefield 2, 1942 and 2142 lying around, but I can’t get them to work on my PC because of DLL problems. :/
Ah well, when I get my new graphics card, which I’m getting for the explicit purpose of making Battlefield 3 run beautifully, I’m reinstalling Windows. It’s smooth Battlefield sailing from there on out. B-)
17/06/2011 at 18:34 Jake says:

I’m in the middle of replaying Morrowind again. I can’t get over the level of quality there is present in the user created mods for it, it never ceases to amaze me. It’s always better than any DLC.
And after Morrowind I plan on going to wander the Deserts of Anequina for a bit, in Oblivion, and do whatever content there is there, including buying a house, and generally just enjoying the damned beautiful ambience. I can’t get over how much Anequina looks not only better, but more interesting, than Cyrodil. By a wide margin. The Imperial lands are boooring. (Could they get more dull and uninspired? Also, could they use more bloom?) But I’m tempted back by the beauty of Anequina. Plus elephants!
Aside from that, I’m poking around in Terraria. Building my mega-home there is enjoyable, though I’m utterly disappointed that NPCs aren’t moving into my apartment complex. :C Those are nice apartments! And I’ll likely be poking LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean again, seeing how much more hidden stuff I can find.
S’about it.
18/06/2011 at 14:02 Petethegoat says:
I tried reinstalling Oblivion a while back, modded it up all nice.
Then I started a game and couldn’t get over how much worse it looked than Morrowind when modded up all nice. :/ So blurry and just eugh.

and a maybe
4: Pick up the indie bundle on steam that has Swords and Soldiers and play a few of those.

I’m about halfway through Arkham Asylum at the moment, so I’ll try and finish that. Terraria, Spiral Knights and League of Legends may also take up some time.

I was planning on finishing Ghost Trick on DS this weekend but I managed to finish it last night. So, I then had some plans but the girlfriend is coming over this weekend. So, now I have new plans, which are basically the same as those for this weekend delayed to the coming week.
These involve replaying Morrowind (which recently dawned on me that it shares, though very slightly, resemblances to Monster Hunter in terms of preparing for and recovering from combat), playing Duke Nukem Forever, and just about every 2D Castlevania title. Also, watching some Hammer Horror era movies.
The last two activities may or may not be related to something I’m writing.

Blood Bowl. Lots and lots of Blood Bowl. Legendary Edition, of course.
Started playing it again last week and I’m lucky enough to have two or three clanmates who also play it regularly. We’re thinking of setting up a clan league soon, and depending on how many people we get, it might be an elf-only league. This is because our last two leagues inevitably ended up being predominantly bashy affairs, and thats not too fun for the only agility team out of 7 or 8, particularly if your players are somewhat expensive.
Anyway, I’ve got 15 teams in the Auld World open league in various states of development, from a 950TV Dwarf team to a 2450TV Lizardmen team that desperately needs trimming. Time to sack a couple of skinks, maybe. Either way, I’ll probably be playing it all weekend.
My clan has also been getting back to Bad Company 2 recently, so there’ll likely be a bit of that. We’re also predominantly a L4D clan, so even though I’m more than a little sick of it after 600+ hours across both games, I’ll likely be playing some at one point or another. Oh, and my friend is about to get Dawn of War 2, so there may well be a little 3v3 multiplayer going on as well.
Oh, and I’ve got to get my Jobseeker’s Allowance sorted now that I’m out of uni. Although filling out two hours of forms isn’t particularly fun…
17/06/2011 at 18:42 Diogo Ribeiro says:
Oh, also, D&D: Daggerdale. I played like 15 minutes and managed to not throw up, though I suspect I would if I reached the 20 minute mark. Just about everything is horrible in it, so, yeah. Though I’m not on the games journalism side of things at this time, part of me still feels the need to get knee deep in terrible electronic plaything and judge them.

Some morning coffee time to spend with Frozen Synapse as well since I seem to have entered a tournament, maybe some Crawl if it slows down.
More than likely some Spiral Knights with many unlikely friends who happened to pick it up, because friendship is beautiful. Lastly, I’ll probably give the last two Steam Free-to-Play games a shot since they’re the only other two I’m vaguely interested in: Global Agenda and the Shooty McManshoot one with the convoluted title.

Magicka! God, that game is so good.

I’ve been playing New Vegas with the Project Nevada mod (it’s my first playthrough, but I couldn’t see any reason not to up the ante from the outset) like a complete addict, and I’m sure I’ll continue to do so. Nothing grabs me like a Bethesda game, especially a well-modded one.
Hopefully I’ll also squeeze in a bit of Din’s Curse and Close Combat: Wacht am Rhein with friends.

I feel you there buddy. I played so much 2142 when it came out that..eh…Manchester Metropolitan University decided that I shouldn’t stay on. Having recently re-discovered my discs and re-installing (after a quick call to EA customer support) I played one game before deciding that it just wasn’t for me any more and I’d rather play BC2.
I had the same experience with BF2 recently as well. I truly don’t understand the BF purists and their never-ending cries of ”The consoles are coming! The consoles are coming!”.
17/06/2011 at 18:52 Lars Westergren says:
Dungeon Siege 3, which is great. Anyone up for online co-op? Add me on Steam, on the same name. Possibly some Magic TG 2012, if I ever get it downloaded (10kb/s? WTH Steam?).
Some Witcher 2, perhaps, if I get tired of the others. Or Fallout:NV. Man, so many great RPGs these days, so little free time.

Started myself on Hitman Blood Money during the week because of the coverage on Subtitle. So clumsy hitmannery for me this weekend, perhaps with a bit of that there Spiral Knights, which is looking awful interesting.

I’m getting into Nehrim (the Oblivion total conversion) for the first time. ‘Sokay. It’s difficult, but not really in a satisfying way. Might play a bit more.
I’m mostly working on a CRPG system for my game that’s more than the generic barebones stuff I’ve been using until now. Thought about stealing Pathfinder under the OGL, but it doesn’t really fit. I’m going for low fantasy, reasonably high realism (think Song of Ice and Fire), very simulationist, no classes. I also need a way of generating a large number of characters that aren’t too archetypal but also aren’t useless, so I had the idea of taking purely random characters and throwing them into a series of fights or an obstacle course, and keeping the ones that survive. Should work.

Might I recommend the Fallout 2 Restoration Project to go along with that endeavour? As with any mod that’s done well, it makes a world of difference and improves on what was already an incredible (for me, anyway) game.
17/06/2011 at 19:35 Vinraith says:
@Wulf
Would you recommend that for a (sort of) first playthrough? I tried playing FO2 back in the day a few times and bounced off of it (despite really liking FO1), but I’ve really been wanting to give it another shot (especially after enjoying New Vegas so much, reconnecting with the lore would be great).
17/06/2011 at 21:28 Jim Reaper says:
@ Wulf
Ta very much for the heads up! Said mod is downloading as I type and shall be installed upon completion. Thanks again….
@Vinraith
I’ll have to try that Project Nevada mod when I re-play New Vegas next….
BTW, anyone know of any good Fallout 3 mods? I couldn’t get into the game when I originally played it, which is typical for me and Bethesda games. I’d like to get my money’s worth out of it, as I doubt I got even halfway through it before losing interest….
17/06/2011 at 21:37 Vinraith says:
@Jim Reaper
You want Fallout Wanderer’s Edition. It turns the game into a survival experience (Hardcore mode in New Vegas is a lite version of FWE, basically), and is actually made by the same folks as Project Nevada (part of the reason I started New Vegas with PN is because I can’t imagine playing Fallout 3 without FWE, it turns it into one of my all-time favorite games).
FWE has a lot of optional mods that work with it, as well, like Mart’s Mutant Mod (adds some new critters, adds new varieties of old critters), and Weapon Mod Kits (which was basically integrated into vanilla New Vegas). I usually play FO3 with those three installed, and also add DC Interiors, which adds some new explorable buildings to the D.C. ruins. All of this stuff is available on Fallout Nexus, and it’s all installed pretty easily with the Fallout Mod Manager and run with Fallout 3 Script Extender..
18/06/2011 at 01:05 Wisq says:
I started on Fallout 3 again this week. Installed FWE, MMM, etc etc. I’m already starting to feel the same boredom and fatigue I felt the other two or three times I tried to play.
It’s not that it’s bad. It’s an impressive game. But I dunno… it’s some combination of “everything feels like the same thing over again”, plus the oppressively lonely environments, the things sneaking up on you with little warning meaning you always need to be on your toes … all of which are great fun at first, but all of which eventually start to grate on the nerves, with or without mods.
I might just pick up something new, like Alice. Hoping for a Wot I Think first.
18/06/2011 at 16:59 Vinraith says:
the oppressively lonely environments
It’s funny to hear that mentioned as a negative, it’s probably my favorite thing about the game (and I have to say, New Vegas is a bit too populated for my tastes by comparison, despite that making narrative sense). Different strokes and all that.

Not sure yet but on my current playlist are Shogun 2, Space Rangers 2 and Brink. I just picked up the indie variety pack off steam so probably some more off that. I’ve been enjoying Swords and Soldiers and Atom Zombie Smasher.

The Witcher 2. Been playing some Spiral Knights this week, and it’s rather good with friend to go dungeon diving. The main ‘grind’ is that to go beyond certain depths you need to meet a gear check (Though since the content beyond would out level you without that gear, it seems smart enough). The microstransaction system is non-intrusive and takes a good cue from EVE’s timecard system – You need Energy to do stuff, which you can buy with real money, but also offer to buy it off of other player’s on the Auction House with ingame money instead. So you could easily play this to your heart’s content without needing to stump up the cash for ingame advantages.
So yes, more Spiral Knights, and Dungeon Siege 3. Couple of hours in and I’m enjoying it a lot, very reminiscent of Balder’s Gate: Dark Alliance, a PS2 game which consumed many of my gaming hours.
OoT3D as well. Because what better way to justify buying a 3DS so early on than with a port ;)? That said, I’ve run through the first dungeon and it’s a very nice visual upgrade to the somewhat ageing N64 original.

I’m playing the Bioshock 2 DLC, Minerva’s Den (bought it from D2D to avoid GFWL nonsense, but you still have to download it through GFWL. Fortunately was fairly painless) and having great fun; I just love the mechanics of these games; so far, combined weapons, plasmids, traps and combing areas for pickups and clues hasn’t gotten old for me. Introduced a friend of mine to the original Bioshock and we can’t believe why he never played it (currently freaked out in the Medical Pavillion). May also make a push to finish Gothic 3 if I have time.
P.
18/06/2011 at 01:14 HermitUK says:
I played through Minerva’s Den last weekend and loved it. The new location was well made, and the story was great, especially the ending. Enjoyed the new weapon and plasmid they added, as well. For those interested, it’s just shy of £7 for an entirely new campaign taking place around the same time as Bioshock 2, but completely self contained. It’s about 4 hours long, too, which is a decent length. It feels like a lot of time and effort went into it – Minerva’s Den is how DLC should be done.
Which perhaps makes it something of a shame that it isn’t available on more digital distribution sites. Being GFWL only isn’t going to help sell this to PC gamers, especially since Bioshock 2 is over a year old now, and you’ll need the base game installed to run it. If this had been a standalone expansion, with the same price point, available on more DD sites, I reckon it would have gone down a treat, rather than mostly slipping under the radar. Heck, it was out for a good week before I even realised it had been released.

It’s worth it though. Even when it looks like crap, Shivering Isles is the most fun I’ve ever had with an Elder Scrolls game. Genuinely interesting quests (loved the one where you control the dungeon), loads of unique gear rather than the same seven swords with stat changes, and some brilliant environment design. I hope Skyrim takes the good things about SI into account.

The social thing goes tonight. Must visit the non virutal world sometimes.

Fallen Earth, if the game will ever finish downloading. Also, just gave RF:Guerilla multiplayer a try and liked it. Kind of sad how often primarily single player games sometimes get interesting multiplayer modes tacked on that don’t get attention. Kind of fun to have DM maps totally leveled by the end.

Hopefully Halo: Reach, CoD4: MW and possibly some Fallout 2 if time dilates and the weekend suddenly becomes twice as long as I anticipated.

Will probably play it for a couple of more weekends and than start over and try to play it with different decisions. Unless something interesting will pop up on Steam sale….
Tried last night DS3 demo and not very impressed. Will wait patiently for a 20$ deal….

Atom Zombie Smasher, Frozen Synapse (need to practice for the RPS league, I’m a little rusty), Kane & Lynch 2, maybe Capsized. Oh, Champions Online a bit too. And my 10yr-old daughter has just discovered the delights of Baldur’s Gate so I’ll probably be sitting with her while she plays it.

Was playing Far Cry 2, but got stuck at 73% and couldn’t proceed due to a locked door (that should be open). Didn’t have any saves further back, so aaargh!
Otherwise, something called “Game Development” will occupy most of the weekend.

I am finally getting into Splinter Cell Conviction. Got it for cheap from steam sale a month or so ago and really struggled at first because of how different it is to the rest of the series.
I’ve put Bioshock 2 on the backburner because I lost an hour and a half of progress and struggling to get back in and replay it.
Also playing through my freebies from Sony for PS3 shutdown (Ratchet and Clank & Wipeout HD) both surprisingly good games.

Also broken: RPS comment pages system, but please don’t fix it, everything on the same page is fine for me.

Laying down rails in Minecraft, playing out some essentially harmless sith fantasies with glowing stick in Jedi Academy’s Movie Duel’s 2, giving Terraria another shot, doing a Doom III walkthrough, lounging in Spiral Knights. Oh and maybe a spot of RTCW:ET, which is still a great laugh.
