Renegade Ops, or “Renegops” as probably no one but me will call it, the upcoming top-down arcade blast ‘em up from Avalanche Studios, has got itself a new video-trailer thing. I hope you like weapons and upgrade systems, because that’s what it is showing off:
And for good measure, have yourselves some extended gameplay footage too:
Looks like a good spot of fun to me. Fast paced, smashy, bashy, shooty, explodey action. Avalanche outdid themselves with the utterly wonderful Just Cause 2, and I intend to be first in line for Renegops.
It’s due on Steam some time next month, at a price of £9.99/€12.99/$14.99 for a single copy, or £19.99/€24.99/$29.99 for four copies. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a Steam four pack with that tasty a discount before, so buddying up seems like a good idea to me.

But does it have unlimited parachutes?
report
They are going about it the wrong way. It should be DOUBLE machine guns, TRIPLE flamethrowers, QUADRUPLE rocket launchers and so on.
report
looks sweeet.

I watched a GiantBomb video about this game (was terrible.. I was use the airstrike, use the airstrike, use the airstrike!!). Aparently the map is giganteous, and you are more or less free to take missions in it, so it can be described like open-something. The visuals where great.
report
I thought that QL wasn’t too bad. They were pressed for time. It managed to sell me the game.
report
It was fun and informative. But if you have a airtrike with a cooldown, you sould use it as soon as posible to know what his area of effect is, how fast reload, etc… having such skill and not using it for like 15 min made me angry :D
report
I hope they have gamepad support, twinstick shooters aren’t as fun with a keyboard/mouse.
report
Ummm… I’m certain it will have controller support given that Just Cause 2 had excellent controller support and this is built on the same engine by the same developers.
report
Just Cause 2 was amazing, and ensured these developers have my full support for whatever they want to do. I’ll pre-order this as soon as Steam will let me.
report
you can already pre-order it on steam, in fact you can get a 4 pack of it for 30 bux right now.
report
This is by far my most anticipated game of the year. Renegops (I love that BTW, calling it that from now on!) is going to be unbelievable. The Avalanche engine is second to none and will suit this type of game perfectly. Also, JC2 was modded like crazy, so we should see some really cool stuff in Renegops :D
report
This game reminds me of Return Fire, and that’s a good thing.
report
I was only just saying to my friends in meatspace last month that Return Fire needed remaking. It’s really nice living in a coma world of my own creation.
report
It’s OK, Lewie, I’ll call it Renegops too.
report
No quadruple machine guns? meh….
Looks like a nice package of oldschool arcade fun.
report
Wheeeeeeee, much silliness.
report
Reminded me of Speed Rumbler (Capcom!, 1986). I’m old.
report
Looks like that “Naval Warfare” game.
report
The developers have basically said that this is a modern update of Jackal.

That’s pretty great, actually.
report
Just Cause 2 was utterly terrible, but this looks neat.

report
I second that. This looks great while JC2 was not.
report
*This game is brought to you by Michael Bay Pyrotechnics*
report
This looks fun. I’d be willing to throw down on a 4 pack if anyone’s interested.
report
I’m getting hints of SWIV with this one…
report
I watched it and thought, ehhh it looks alright I suppose. Then you mentioned that they are the developer of Just Cause 2 and now I’m very interested!
report
Watching that gameplay video, It almost seems funny that you are in a car. I wonder, will the limitation of not being able to strafe be about the only thing to add difficulty to what is basically a speed tanking blow em up?
