Paradox are totally making a new game! There’s no stopping those crazy Swedes as they announce that Warlock will be a “turn-based strategy game set in the fantastical land of Ardania, popularized in Majesty franchise.” It seems like it’s going to be a game of empire-building and army-gathering, with players battling against rival wizards for (turn-based) control of the land.
The game is scheduled for “Q2 2012″, but there are no real images or details other than the fact that it will contain units, races, and spells. Vague teaser-type trailer below!
*RPS confirms it’s really going to have to change the headlines so we can get these ridiculous long names in without losing our precious puns.

It sounds enticingly like Master of Magic.
Then again, so did Elemental.
29/08/2011 at 15:30 Gnoupi says:
Elemental done right, maybe?
29/08/2011 at 15:40 TillEulenspiegel says:
There’s really nothing about Elemental that’s worth doing right or taking inspiration from or even acknowledging the existence of.
MoM is up there with X-COM in terms of games that need a proper modern sequel.
29/08/2011 at 15:51 BurningPet says:
Heres hoping paradox will do justice to this wonderfull genre.
29/08/2011 at 15:53 bluebomberman says:
Yeah, between Elemental, HOMM V, HOMM VI (the demo was bland and buggy as hell), Elven Legacy, Disciples III… the genre’s really been suffering from unpolished and uninspired releases for the past few years. I’m wondering if I should try to sift through GOG’s offerings for something playable.
My personal failing is that I’ve become addicted to Civ 5′s 1080p UI. It’s hard for me to look forward to spending hours staring at highly pixelated graphics with fuzzy text and cluttered UI.
29/08/2011 at 15:54 Vexing Vision says:
It’s exactly my thought. I’m still badly burned by Elemental.
Then again, Paradox has yet to disappoint me. Don’t start now, Fred Wester. Don’t start now.
/Edit: Disappointment would start by not featuring Julian Sands. Just saying.
29/08/2011 at 17:04 pakoito says:
Not the same but Fall From Heaven for Civ IV is a good mod.
29/08/2011 at 19:10 Nick says:
The Elven legacy series was actually pretty good, purely combat focused though. I much prefered them to the Ubisoft HoMM raping.
29/08/2011 at 21:25 Malawi Frontier Guard says:
MoM is up there with X-COM in terms of games that don’t need a proper modern sequel because they’re good enough already.
29/08/2011 at 21:30 TillEulenspiegel says:
That’s crazy talk. You can always do better. Not by mimicking, but by understanding what made the classics great.
Oh, and the old UIs are crap as well. Early mouse-driven stuff on low-res screens…yeah.
30/08/2011 at 10:07 Towercap says:
Here to second Nick.
As far as comparing to classics, you should put Elven Legacy next to Fantasy General, not Master of Magic. It’s a great game too, though like FG, purely tactical, without the strategic layer of MoM.
29/08/2011 at 15:23 nootron says:
Is there an unusually large % of fantasy worlds that begin with the letter A? Or am I just confused.
Ardania
Albia
Azeroth
Um, ok drawing blanks here. There’s dozens im sure
29/08/2011 at 15:24 Jim Rossignol says:

29/08/2011 at 15:25 CaspianRoach says:

29/08/2011 at 15:26 Jim Rossignol says:

29/08/2011 at 15:36 jon_hill987 says:

29/08/2011 at 15:39 Anthile says:
I can confirm this. I am a part-time fantasy world myself.
29/08/2011 at 15:40 Lukasz says:
I can’t believe you guys forgot Arcanum. How dare you!?
29/08/2011 at 16:02 Atic Atac says:
Albion, one of the best RPG’s ever made.
29/08/2011 at 19:19 Tei says:
Theres nothing on the letter Y. So I suppose Yggdrasill is not consider a world.
29/08/2011 at 21:53 BathroomCitizen says:
Nope, it’s just that Yggdrasill is real.
29/08/2011 at 15:26 DiamondDog says:
So Paradox just make all the games now?
29/08/2011 at 15:31 Gnoupi says:
The good ones, which are a bit different from the AAA shooter, seems like.
29/08/2011 at 16:26 IDtenT says:
Everything released on the PC that’s worthwhile anyhow.
29/08/2011 at 17:33 Om says:
It’s been made by 1C (I think). Paradox are publisher
29/08/2011 at 22:49 Daiv says:
I, for one, welcome our new Paradoxical overlords.
29/08/2011 at 15:26 Antsy says:
Hmmm. Not sure what was happening there, I was too distracted by the terrible Sean Connery impression.
29/08/2011 at 15:37 MrThingy says:
Haha, yesh, I’m not shure why Paradocksh went for thish bisharre choish of voisheover.
29/08/2011 at 15:40 Akimbo says:
Mashter of the Arcane!
29/08/2011 at 15:54 ZamFear says:
It’sh a game shet in the Majeshty universe. Ershatz Sean Connery voishoversh are mandatory.
29/08/2011 at 16:28 Freud says:
Well, they did hire Quinns as some kind of PR person, didn’t they?
29/08/2011 at 18:13 Om says:
It sounds to me that voiceover guy was having a blast. Or blastsh
29/08/2011 at 20:46 Sassenach says:
Shurely shome mishtake?
29/08/2011 at 21:31 Hmm-Hmm. says:
Nobody of the above commenters played Majesty 2, then? The same faux-Connery appeared therein.
29/08/2011 at 23:13 ZamFear says:
Majeshty 2!? Con Seannery hash been there shinsh the beginning!
Bonush cheeshy CG animation!
29/08/2011 at 23:33 Antsy says:
I bought it when it first came out. I didn’t like it enough to remember much about it, evidently.
29/08/2011 at 15:37 Jajusha says:
I do love Paradox games and…
Wait, so…the crusader kings in japan game… crusader kings II, europa universalis IV, defenders of ardania, next expansion for europa unversalis III, next expansion for iron hearths, next expansion for…oh dear, might have to get a second job to get them all!
But then again, i do trully love Paradox games!
29/08/2011 at 15:53 Vexing Vision says:
Or get a job at Paradox!
(Working on that.)
29/08/2011 at 16:27 IDtenT says:
Quinns is a visionary.
29/08/2011 at 15:40 Jams O'Donnell says:
It is possible for headlines to be longer than a single line of text, you know. I’ve seen it!
29/08/2011 at 15:41 Jim Rossignol says:
Yes, but that would mean them being longer than a single line of text, which we currently don’t do (because it would increase scrolling required).
29/08/2011 at 15:48 Jams O'Donnell says:
Call the game MotA then, just to confuse everyone.
29/08/2011 at 15:59 imirk says:
HEX MAP FTMFW!
29/08/2011 at 16:03 Atic Atac says:
Who are Peedocks? They sound like an interesting bunch.
29/08/2011 at 16:23 sendmark says:
I’d say at least 90% of my most anticipated games are from Paradox. They’re producing so much good stuff.
29/08/2011 at 16:24 Hodge says:
It had better feature Richard E. Grant sporting a fuzz-mullet.
29/08/2011 at 16:24 enobayram says:
Oh my god! Oh my god! Is this my next bestest game since master of magic coming?
29/08/2011 at 19:03 kalidanthepalidan says:
At 24 seconds….
Cute puppies confirmed as combat unit.
29/08/2011 at 19:11 Nick says:
Thank you, Fred Wester.
Also:
Right.
29/08/2011 at 20:50 Vinraith says:
This is certainly the kind of thing that Paradox could get very, very right. I’m looking forward to seeing what they do with it, fingers crossed.
30/08/2011 at 00:13 Megadyptes says:
P’dox are publishing it, not making it. Like with 90% of all games announced as being ‘Paradox games’ these days.
30/08/2011 at 10:36 Chris says:
I think it’s pretty cool that they got Sean Connery to do the voice over.
30/08/2011 at 10:42 karry says:
It’s InoCo. Not that they make BAD games, but i just cant get excited over these guys.
31/08/2011 at 17:06 CalleX says:
Dominions 3 is a game in this genre worth checking out. The amount of strategic options in that game is mondblowing.
03/09/2011 at 07:25 karry says:
Except its nearly worthless in singleplayer, and who wants that.
