Remember Renegade Ops? Okay Then.

By Lewie Procter on August 17th, 2011.

Renegade Ops, or “Renegops” as probably no one but me will call it, the upcoming top-down arcade blast ‘em up from Avalanche Studios, has got itself a new video-trailer thing. I hope you like weapons and upgrade systems, because that’s what it is showing off: Read the rest of this entry »

Deus Ex: Human Revolution Is Region Locked

By Lewie Procter on August 17th, 2011.

Oh dear, someone isn’t supporting our No Oceans campaign. Square-Enix have sadly region locked the boxed retail versions of the PC release of Deus Ex: Human Revolution across Europe. Retail copies sold in the UK will only activate on UK Steam accounts. It’s a similar story for copies sold in Russia/Poland, and the rest of the EU makes up the third European region. Wildstar: The First Trailer

By Alec Meer on August 17th, 2011.

UPDATE: New embed.
There’s the preview of NCsoft/Carbine’s ambitious new sci-fantasy MMO Wildstar, and here’s the first scene-setting video. Pre-rendered intro vid kinda stuff rather than in-game footage, but sets the scene, the tone and introduces the three playable races and some of the classes… Take a look. Now, I must run off to a giant German convention centre to go see many, many games.

NCSoft Vs The World: Wildstar Preview

By Alec Meer on August 17th, 2011.

“Cool story, Gaffney.” So Wildstar lead Jeremy Gaffney, co-creator of Turbine and now heading up NCSoft’s MMO dev supergroup Carbine Studios, repeatedly mock-chastises himself when unveiling their first game to the media. He’s making promises we’ve heard so many times, about so many massively multiplayer games that ultimately didn’t live up to their wild hype: this is “the deepest, richest MMO ever,” it “lets players play how they want to play”, “this is something new.” You know how that song goes. Cool story, Gaffney. This guy though, right here and now, aims to back up his grandiose claims, right here and now. Carbine are finally ready to show off fantasy/sci-fi hybrid MMO Wildstar. It goes a little something like this.

Quicksmart: DOTA 2 Beta Registration Open

By John Walker on August 16th, 2011.

I still can't decide if this is friendly or frightening.

With Valve’s DOTA 2 Championships about to happen tomorrow, the developer has also announced that it is taking sign-ups to the beta. Registration is open now. You need only head here, sign in with your Steam account details, and then click “Get on the list”. That’s it. Whenever the beta happens, they then promise they’ll get in touch. Meanwhile the championship will be streamed live from tomorrow morning, the first starting at 9am tomorrow morning (UK time), and then pretty much going on non-stop until Sunday, at which point anyone left awake/hydrated will be declared the winner. And that’s all the weather. Cheers to Chris.

Koboldy: Kingdoms of Amalur Due Feb 2012

By Jim Rossignol on August 16th, 2011.

Kobolds vs Wizards, yesterday.
38 Studios’ fantasy RPG Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning will be swooshing its magical weapons in our direction on Feb 7th 2012, according to today’s announcements from its publisher, Electronic Arts. What does that mean? Well, it means ‘epic’ fantasy action, much of which will involve hitting monsters in the face with the aforementioned tools of chopping. 38′s bossman Curt Schilling apparently claims that the game will be an experience half way between God Of War and Oblivion. That sounds like quite the marriage.

I can also confirm that it has kobolds in, because they’re picture above. A trailer, meanwhile, is below.

Get Your Bastion On: Bastion Out Now

By Lewie Procter on August 16th, 2011.

Released today is Supergiant Games’ gorgeous looking action-RPG, Bastion. It’s available to purchase from Steam at a price of £11.49/€13.99/$14.99, and you can take a poke at the launch trailer here. Despite being temporarily wrapped up in a web of Xbox exclusivity, Bastion has always been PC bound. As you can see if you compare PC screenshots to Xbox screenshots, the PC version has access to far higher quality assets for those of you with grown-up sized monitors. There is a demo available and you can read Jim’s hands on impressions here.

Check back tomorrow for a full review.

Gamescom: Six New Mass Effect 3 Shots

By John Walker on August 16th, 2011.

I like this one best.

Gamescom has produced six new screenshots of Mass Effect 3. Want to see them? Do you? I bet you do! Well… go on then. Being from BioWare there’s a bloody stupid logo obscuring half the picture on all of them. BioWare? Grow up. No one’s going to pretend it’s from their game. (Until Limbo Of The Lost 2, I suppose). And extremely disappointingly, despite the announcement of the official FemShep, ManShep continues to appear.
