Spiral send word that they have a new video out, this time showing a playable dinosaur in action, and some jumping/shooting behaviour. Mr Dino looks fantastic, frankly. The team have also done a big old write up of what they’ve been up to in the past month over here.
Go take a look, below…
That is just a lovely T-Rex. It does have a sort of pseudo-Tribes Section 8 sort of vibe going on with the rest of it, though. The jetpacks *and* dinosaurs mix seems a bit odd to me, I think I’d have been inclined to make a game where the tiny humans struggled to escape fast-moving death-lizards.

Dinos and jetpacks… *facepalm*
Next: Rabbits and Kung Fu… hey wait!

Game x jetpacks = Better Game
Game x dinosaurs = Better Game
Both of those are known to be true so:
Game x jetpacks x dinosaurs = Better^2 Game.

I’m more psyched for the announcer.
“DINO BEAT DOWN!”
“EXTINCTION…”

But where are the zombies?

Dinosaurs driving vehicles?
HUAT?
07/09/2011 at 13:12 Shadowcat says:
That was definitely the best part of the video.
07/09/2011 at 13:51 westyfield says:
As far as I know, there are two human teams fighting each other, and a third dinosaur team fighting everyone. I might be wrong but I remember hearing something like that.
07/09/2011 at 12:38 Ian says:
It’s no Jetpack Brontosaurus, I’ll bet.
07/09/2011 at 17:20 Balobam says:
It’ll probably be this games equivalent of CoD’s nuke. Just call in the Jetpack Brontos as about 20 fall from the sky, killing everything on the field.

Run trough the map, see the enemy, aim, reload, then shoot.
07/09/2011 at 12:46 Burning Man says:
That was incredibly silly. Potentially fun, but stupendously silly.
07/09/2011 at 12:49 wild_quinine says:
And I was just asking where my dinosaurs were at.
07/09/2011 at 12:52 supernorn says:
First it was Halo Dinosaurs. Then it was Crysis Dinosaurs. Now… get ready… for Tribes Dinosaurs!
07/09/2011 at 13:04 herschel says:
I find it utterly stupido. Totally generic.
07/09/2011 at 17:16 Balobam says:
Too generic even. I want to go back to the olden days, when shooters were few and far between, when CoD ruled and everything was brown and the sun was impossibly bright.
Too much with these dinojetpacks already, I want Time Crisis 4

Those voice overs were terrible. They were not only lame but the voice itself didn’t suit, they either need to alter the voice massively, get a new voice or just get rid of it altogether.
07/09/2011 at 13:13 Benny says:
Dinosaurs and Jetpacks!
I do hope they get PC controls right cos the aiming in that video looked horrendously sluggish. (That means we dont want mouse accelleration. Got it?)
07/09/2011 at 13:21 JFS says:
Halo with Dinosaurs?
07/09/2011 at 13:28 Hoaxfish says:
I like that the typical “tunnel vision” of FPSes allows for a whole T-Rex to sneak up on you.
07/09/2011 at 14:07 jon_hill987 says:
We have a narrow field of view in real life (granted not that narrow). Sound does a lot to make you not realise this though, something the game could take advantage of.
07/09/2011 at 17:18 Balobam says:
I am willing to bet, that if over the course of my life, a T-Rex is stumbling up behind me, my peripherals alone will notice the 13m lizardbeast, be it shadow or the fact it’s about the size of a double decker and not quite as subtle.
08/09/2011 at 01:45 wazups2x says:
@jon_hill987
In real life are FOV is 180-degress. Most games (especially consoles ports) have FOV around 65 to 75, that’s insanely low.

07/09/2011 at 14:05 DzX says:
Meh; have they actually addressed the whole pay scandal yet, or have they continued to ignore it without addressing the issue?
The game just looks so generic and dull; hopefully people have learnt, after Dino D-day, just putting Dinosaurs into your game doesn’t suddenly make it incredibly interesting; you actually have to work on innovative mechanics instead of trying to badly copy generic AA shooters…
07/09/2011 at 14:54 Kollega says:
Dinosaurs and jetpacks. You know what else has dinosaurs and jetpacks – dinosaurs with jetpacks, even? Dr. McNinja. But i think it’s a safe bet this game is not nearly as awesome as Dr. McNinja.
07/09/2011 at 20:59 Wulf says:
Dragon Commander, however, manages to out-awesome Dr. McNinja. >_>
07/09/2011 at 16:19 Hendar23 says:
Do I have to be the first person to mention that he punchs a raptor to death? What more do you want?
07/09/2011 at 20:57 Wulf says:
A raptor that’s too fast and too smart to be punched to death? I bet it doesn’t happen to Primal Carnage raptors. >_> These guys seem so slow and clunky for dinos, even the littler dinos. Graphically it’s great but mechanically it looks… meh. The smaller dinos seem… I don’t know. They move like armoured cars. They should be heavy but nowhere near that heavy.
07/09/2011 at 17:37 Chorltonwheelie says:
Dino’s, jetpacks…..I want 2000AD’s ‘FLESH’ made game now.
07/09/2011 at 18:30 killmachine says:
another cod clone.
sry for trolling, but i thought it was funny. :D
game looks like fun. weapon models need some polishing though. dino models look awsome.
07/09/2011 at 19:36 supernorn says:
Would any Orion devs like to tell me why you’re using assets from other Indie games? This is quite clearly the armoury from Natural Selection 2 or at least a very similar looking model: http://i.imgur.com/nBIJr.jpg
(seen at 1:02 in the vid)
Edit: And now instead of addressing the issue you’ve made the video private?? Good show, amateurs..
Edit: You can take the video down and re-edit it all you want, but someone else seems to have uploaded it! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k-yY4XDWT18
07/09/2011 at 23:24 DzX says:
It wouldn’t be the first time they stole content from other indie titles…
07/09/2011 at 23:35 Linfosoma says:
@ supernorn
Yup, that is indeed NS2′s armory mesh. I said this elsewhere but I cant believe somebody dared to pull a “King of Limbo” in this day and age. And stealing assets form an indie studio? Wow, just wow.
08/09/2011 at 01:46 wazups2x says:
Wow, that’s pathetic. Another reason not to buy this game.
08/09/2011 at 02:38 jamesgecko says:
Placeholder, maybe? How long has this been in development?
08/09/2011 at 15:09 DzX says:
Its been in development for years; they even made a beta on the Source engine so stealing assets is beyond ridiculous. Not to mention they were donated a large sum of money from the community using Kickstarter…
They also stole Concept art from Primal Carnage [another indie game] and claimed it as their own.

07/09/2011 at 20:54 Wulf says:
It looks good but I still think that the dinos in Primal Carnage both look and move better.
07/09/2011 at 22:50 BathroomCitizen says:
Nice idea, although I would have done away with hitscan weapons and put a lot more effort in making some slow/medium speed projectiles for the guns.
There’s too less emphasis on projectile dodging in these last years’ FPS games.
08/09/2011 at 01:01 Eynonz says:
HAHAHA!….. Thats the most amusing game concept i’ve heared in a while, love it!

Video taken down by user. Sad dino! :(
08/09/2011 at 23:22 Navagon says:
Because it featured assets obviously stolen from indie developers. Even making a game with dinosaurs and jetpacks doesn’t excuse that.
