Valve’s Erik Johnson On Who DOTA 2 Is For

By Alec Meer on September 12th, 2011.

Not Erik Johnson

You think my bag of Gamescom coverage is empty? Hah! Far from it. I’m beginning to worry I’m going to spend the rest of my life documenting what I saw and who I spoke to across four frenetic days in Germany last month. This time, it’s a quick chat with Valve bigwig Erik Johnson about DOTA2 – why they made it, what’s different, whether normal humans as well as superhumans can play it, whether they’re trying to become kings of pro-gaming hill, how aggressively they’re competing with Riot Games, Blizzard, et al… He’s not the chattiest subject admittedly, and I was miserably short on time due to my next appointment being approximately eighty miles away from Valve’s stand, but let’s see what he has to say about the impending reworking of the monstrously successful mod.

Ford Be With You: SW:TOR Smuggler Video

By Adam Smith on September 12th, 2011.

this is the profession you're looking for

Star Wars: Galaxies had a brilliant idea at its core; to let people live in the Star Wars world without letting them all be Jedi from the moment they register. You had to earn the right because it doesn’t make sense for every single person to be a member of an exclusive and rare sect. In Star Wars: The Old Republic, I have no desire to be a Jedi at all. I want to be a smuggler and Bioware have released a new trailer to show exactly why.

Be Vindicated With A Euro Vindictus Beta Key

By John Walker on September 12th, 2011.

A polar bear is never your friend.

We’re very good at giving you things. For instance, today, we’d like to give out 2,000 closed beta keys for the Euro launch of Vindictus. But with there being at least 2,001 RPS readers, you’ll need to be quick. If you head below the jump you can find details for how you can get your very own key.

Apple Revolution, DX:HR Mac Port Inbound

By Lewie Procter on September 12th, 2011.

But will the colour scheme change to silver and pale blue?

Attention, owners of expensive, hard-to-upgrade aluminium PCs: Square-Enix have just sent word that Deux Ex: Human Revolution is going to be getting a Mac release. It’s due out in “Winter 2011/12″, and London based Feral Interactive are going to be responsible for it. They tackled the Mac ports of the likes of BioShock, Borderlands, Rome: Total War, LEGO Star Wars & Tomb Raider: Anniversary, so I guess they know the ropes. Has anyone played any of their ports?

In The Dark: Closure Trailer

By Adam Smith on September 12th, 2011.

do a barrel roll

It’s been a long time since we last shed any light on Closure. Originally a flash game, after three years in development the full downloadable version is still some way off, coming to PSN early in 2012 and landing on PC afterwards. Boo! However, a new trailer was released at PAX 2011 and while it doesn’t show much that I haven’t seen before, it did manage to remind me that the game exists. And that’s good because it looks like a rather interesting puzzle adventure type thing. The design looks suitably atmospheric and if there’s enough depth and variety to the environments and challenges, it could be worth getting lost in. See the trailer below.

Wot We Wrote

By Adam Smith on September 12th, 2011.

As a new week begins and the frivolity of the weekend draws to a close, it is normal to look back at the week before and think: “Look on my works, ye Mighty, and say huzzah”. It’s certainly how I prepare for the horrors of every Monday, and I suggest everyone do the same. But I’m no doctor and that’s no prescription for joy. Instead, perhaps take a look through the best of Wot We Wrote last week. It’s stirring stuff.

EA Offer Refunds For Tiger Woods 2012 PC?

By Lewie Procter on September 12th, 2011.

Oh dear. It appears as if some customers of EA’s latest annual hitting a ball with a stick simulator aren’t too pleased. The Tiger Woods series has been absent from the PC all the way since Tiger Woods 2008, but this year marked its return to the almighty desktop. Sadly, it seems that instead of being a port of the high-end console version, like what EA used to do, it is apprently based heavily on the free-to-play, Unity-based, Tiger Woods Online.

Tron Don: Saints Row 3′s Virtual Reality

By Lewie Procter on September 12th, 2011.

It looks like Volition are not yet finished with their campaign to subvert everyone’s expectations regarding Saints Row: The Third. I thought the craziest it could get is maybe a bigger poo truck than in the second game, but here we see an entire digital world squeezed inside the digital world of Steelport. As Saints Row: The Third’s urban warfare spills over onto the digital cyber-world, it seems like it’s going to take more than just guns, cars and explosives to put the Saints back on top. ‘Snot Green: Repaint Your Space Marine

By Alec Meer on September 12th, 2011.

Red vs blue? Red wins.

Ticked off that you’re stuck in the boring blue power-armour of a boring blue Ultramarine in Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine‘s singleplayer campaign? While you can’t stop Captain Titus from banging on about his Chapter, thanks to one modder’s hard work you can now make him look like he belongs to another, less vanilla entry in the Codex Astartes. Newly added to the mod, at last, are helmets – so you can look like a proper Space Marine, not the 40K equivalent of that bloody Stallone Judge Dredd movie.

Trial Of Honour: Sengoku Demo Released

By Adam Smith on September 12th, 2011.

Allow me to demonstrate

Anyone unsure as to whether they want to plot their way to the top in Feudal Japan would be well-advised to download the demo for Sengoku. You won’t get anywhere near the top because there’s a 15 year time limit, but, as is the intention of demos, it should help you to decide if the game is for you. Get it from Fileplanet here or read on for a bit of help if all this strategy business baffles your brains.
