Rob Hale’s bemusingly frantic Waves has just released a demo. It’s a three minute burst of the Crunch Time mode, which you can get from Squid In A Box’s main site, here. The full game is out soon, and will be $10 either from Squid (DRM free) or via Steam. But in the meantime, you can finally get your hands on the explody colour confusion.

Had a good chat with him at Eurogamer nice guy

Worth a play, it’s quite slick.

First go score: 254,731.
Ace game.

Given how much I’ve played this the past couple of weeks I should be doing better but…

GO!

I believe it is; as they say, “On” 4,179,746
Granted I did make it so that’s probably not fair.

Up a bit: 2,839,819
I’ll get you, Hale. *cackles*

I’m guessing you’ve tweaked the scoring a bit, I don’t really think my beta score of 74,575,310 is attainable any more… but I did get 3,546,446 on my “first” try (settings were all wrong so restarted half-way the real first try) so we’ll see. And I had other things to do tonight…
EDIT: A little while later: 5,076,029.

Really nice looking game with a good soundtrack but lacking any semblance of innovation to speak of from what I can see.

This looks like a sleek, smart and sexy version of Geometry Wars or similar. Hex grids, seas of particles effects, blooms of saturated color…count me in.

I was interested in this game some time ago after seeing the first screenshots and the first video footage on indiedb
after the demo i can guarantee that i will buy that shiny thing as soon as i can on steam
Looks fantastic and looks like it can provide a good amount of fun (even the one demo level i replayed 3 times was a good amount of fun)
report
can you use custom tracks like in beat hazard
the controls are way tighter and more reactive than beat hazard, so it would be awesome
report
Awesome fun. The game seems to reward you for not using bombs which I think is neat.
report
If you want a highscore then bombs are the secret to getting it. Unlike other shooters they aren’t a last resort but the key to chaining together large combos.

Really looking forward to this game, it’s going to really satisfy that Geometry Wars itch; especially since Geo Wars 2 never came out on PC >: (

Three things came to mind.
1. SO PRETTY. For the ears as well as the eyes.
2. So resource hungry. Seriously, guys? Too laggy for such speedy play, for me =/
3. So used to the other way of defining top down controls – where W is “go where mouse is pointing”. The amount of times I hit S only to smash right into the hexagon that I was shooting at…
report
Try turning off Distortion and Ambient Occlusion in the video settings. That should get your framerate up by a fair bit.
report
Yeah, I did that first thing – it’s still pretty bad. I know my PC isn’t exactly a monster, but top-down (albeit with some 3D) “shooters” shouldn’t be this bad.

This game is pretty good with 3d vision. It makes the game a touch easier. Will buy on Steam if the price is right. ($4.99 or less)
