Kotaku Australia are reporting this Ukrainian publication’s interview with GSC’s Studio Director Sergey Grigorovich. In it it he answers a huge number of questions, revealing little about the sequel apart from question one about “security” for the forthcoming game:
“Software piracy is an issue for us, we try to fight it, but within reason… Protection from piracy? Part of the content will be located on the server and downloaded as the game progresses. Permanent internet access is required. Text information, code and quests will be loaded through that connection.”
I’ve contacted GSC for a statement.

What to say about Rockstar? They’ve made me gnash my teeth in anguish this week by stating, to nobody’s surprise, that Red Dead Redemption is unlikely to grace my PC, your PC or anyone else’s PC. But they are giving us LA Noire. They finally got round to releasing Grand Theft Auto IV but there were technical issues and beyond them it needed a monstrously powerful computer to fully capture its criminal charms. And then they went and annoyed parts of the substantial modding community by releasing a patch which, some claimed, was designed to cripple non-vanilla versions of the game. What to say about Rockstar?

Hey, DICE have released a batch of images of the single-player campaign. Aside from all that visual noise from the announcement trailers, I still don’t have a really good grip on what this is going to be like, but I can’t wait to see. I am presuming there’s a bit of jet-fight action, at least. Ooh, there could be a fight for the WIT of this one…

Simulation & wargame news
By Tim Stone on October 7th, 2011.

Usually a radio-controlled Zeppelin or the promise of a footplate ride on an elderly diesel loco, is enough to get a dev or publisher game coverage in the The Flare Path. This week however, bungs alone are insufficient. The three lovelies lionised south of the jump all earned their places through Sheer Merit. Well, Sheer Merit and a Shared Moniker, if you want to be pedantic. Meine Damen und Herren, I give you Iron Cross, Iron Cross, and Rise of Flight: The Iron Cross Edition.

- Rob Hale, the chap behind Waves points me to this game, Sonar, which is about navigating around a maze using sound pulses. It’s a bit like a simplified Devil’s Tuning Fork.
- Digitanks has a a demo, a campaign update, and a Pay What You Want just here. The game is moderately entertaining.
- Sketchbrawlers looks bonkers. Will probably look at this again soon.
- Rebuild 2 is very similar to the original post-zombie apocalypse management game: time-consuming.
- The demo of exploration-heavy side-scroller Unepic can be found here.
- Spiderweb have a big old sale of all their RPGs on.
- Oh, also, spectacular arena shooter Scoregasm (pictured above) is out now, too.

Vlambeer’s Serious Sam spin-off/remake/demake/upmake/downmake/JRPGmake Serious Sam: The Random Encounter was always a bit of a bonkers proposition. The gameplay trailer (below) hasn’t really done much to change that perception. It is quite random.
And it looks totally awesome. Vlambeer say: “The game’ll launch on Steam & some other digital distribution platforms October 24th for $4.99. We’re pretty damned excited, that’s our first commercial release, I think.” They’re right.

They Should Have Sent A Pilot

Air Conflicts: Secret Wars plunges beneath the surface of World War II, even though it’s set entirely in planes rather than submarines. What does it all mean, and is the game the sort of terrifyingly accurate simulation that I struggle to get off the ground, or a point and shoot arcade game suitable for a landlubber with no air-legs? And should I have used the term “landlubber” in a non-nautical context? Here’s Wot I Think.

Relic’s mildly disappointing orc-eviscerating game Space Marine is getting a 4-player co-op mode later this month, with THQ dating the roll out of the free upgrade for the 25th. It’s called EXTERMINATUS. Which, quite coincidentally, is my middle name. There will be two scenarios in this mini-expansion, in which you can play as tactical marines, heavy-weaponised devastators or whoosh-bam marines. You’ll be fighting orcs and chaos, according to EG.
Nor will this be the end of DLC for the game, say Relic, with paid and free additions to come.

The Battlefield 3 beta wraps up on the 10th, and so to get the final stress testing done DICE have confirmed that they will be opening up 64-player Caspian Border servers – meaning maximum 32 vs 32 team counts, vehicles, and everything else – for the final weekend. How many of your are on the beta? We should probably orchestrate some kind of massed RPS man-shoot?

I still can’t quite believe that Gotham City Imposters is officially licensed. Coming across as a blend of Kick-ass and Batman, its comedic and yet brutal take on a Gotham without its iconic protector and his gruesome nemesis is too crazy to receive DC Comics sanction, surely? Apparently, and thankfully, that’s not the case, with a new animated short demonstrating precisely why I’m amazed and gleeful that the game exists. There’s a massive dose of customisation, allowing you to create a suave Joker or an unkempt and overweight Batman, and the game is currently in a short closed beta. From what I can gather, its multiplayer team-based madness is enjoyable and, well, mad. Watch this and feel your mind boggle.

Infinite dragons, perhaps? I can’t tell if this is some kind of meta-trolling of the Bethesda court case that Mojang are currently facing down, or whether Notch is actually teasing the appearance of dragons in Minecraft.
Anyway, we don’t want dragons, Notch, we want bees. Christ.
