2K Games have exclusively told me, and everyone else with an internet connection and an interest in game publisher financial details, that they’re delaying XCOM until ‘fiscal 2013′, presumably to avoid clashing with the end of days.

XCOM Avoids The End Of The World
By Craig Pearson on November 9th, 2011.
Prestigious Platforming: The Pretender
By Adam Smith on November 9th, 2011.

Somehow, despite The Internet having my phone number, a browser-based platform-puzzler in which the player controls a Victorian magician rescuing ghosts has existed since 2009 and yet I didn’t receive a call about it. Outrageous blaggardry of the first water.
The game in question is The Pretender and the release of a third chapter in the top-hatted trickster’s adventures and the diligence of Jayisgames has served to notify me of his existence. There’s a basic but pleasingly worded story and I’d say it’s worth going back to the start for the full experience since there’s much pleasure to be gained from the antiquated banter.
Assassin’s Creed Reveals Constantinople
By Craig Pearson on November 9th, 2011.

There’s a bit, 1m40s in, into this new Assassin’s Creed Revelations trailer that I feel is a microcosm for how Ubisoft views the PC. A guard stands over a collapsed and bloodied man, who represents the PC gamers excited by the game but who have to wait for them to kick the console beta version out first. The guard then punches the downed man. The fist is Ubisoft’s DRM.

Space, Cubed: Blockade Runner
By Adam Smith on November 9th, 2011.

Much has changed in the world of crafty space sim Blockade Runner since I last took a look so it seems only correct to don my fishbowl and head once more into the void. The game receives a lot of updates, many of which are only truly appreciable from within, and the free version now reflects the latest additions in stripped-back form so if you have the slightest interest in building and crewing a cuboid starship, it is advisable to download the trial immediately. Or perhaps read on to learn more.
You Call This A Delusion? Total Recall MMO
By John Walker on November 9th, 2011.

Okay, here’s the new angle. If you’ve not yet made your MMO (as indeed everyone must have made one by the end of 2012, according to international law) there’s an approach you may not have thought of. Base it on an old movie. Astonishingly, there is to be a free-to-play incarnation of Total Recall.
The Wager 1.2 Is Out, And You Should Play It
By John Walker on November 8th, 2011.

Splendid pirates-em-up The Wager has now officially released its version 1.2, that I somewhat prematurely wrote about on Monday. So you should definitely get it. Because it’s brills. And free. And I’ve some hints on their next game, The Archive. It will apparently “draw on roguelike” with randomly generated elements that are reminiscent of games like Spelunky and The Binding Of Isaac. “Except in space! With lasers!” There are more details on Surprised Man’s podcast. That’s still a year off, but in the meantime, for goodness sakes play the very enjoyable The Wager. Because I said so.
Wot I Think: L.A. Noire PC
By Alec Meer on November 8th, 2011.

L.A. Noire: The Complete Edition, so named due to the PC version of Rockstar’s vintage crime opus containing all the DLC from the get-go, launched on Steam not minutes ago in the US, though Brits must wait the traditional three extra days. Retailers, you’re bad people. Still: I’ve been playing it over the last few days, so here is An Opinion.
There’s a slight element of redundancy to writing this, isn’t there? If you have even the slightest interest in Rockstar’s detective-’em-up, you’ll surely have read some kind of review of it in the long months since its May release on console. Whatever I’m about to tell you, you probably already know. Like that’s going to stop me from droning on about, of course.
L.A. Noire is two distinct games. One is a much more limited take on the traditional Rockstar open urban world/ third person driving/shooting game, but set in the 40s, with angry policemen removed (you are the angry policeman here) and cars that struggle to top 60 miles an hour. Early 20th century LA is a beautiful, richly-detailed place – everything from newsstand vendors to smokey divebars recreated with painstaking detail.

QWOP A Load Of Poleriders
By Craig Pearson on November 8th, 2011.

Poleriders is from Bennet Foddy, the delightful academic who has you thrashing your limbs to run 100m in QWOP. It’s an interesting take on the traditional and noble art of the pole vault, adding a ball and an opponent. I personally think “Pole-Lolting” is a more accurate title, because it’s one of the funniest things I’ve played in a while.

A New Skyrim Trailer To Pass The Time
By John Walker on November 8th, 2011.

Skyrim is out in three days! Three! Not three years, but days. One of us is playing it right now, but it’s not me. But Friday’s my day off, so while you’re all at work, I’ll be able to sit watching it download on Steam all day. Take THAT, suckers. But in the meantime, for all of us who cannot play it before it comes out, there’s at least a new trailer to pass the time.
Olly: What A Delightful Frag-rence
By Craig Pearson on November 8th, 2011.

My favourite smell in the world is the smell of my ex-cat. You’ve probably heard of Dexter, but you’ve almost certainly never had a whiff of his glorious bouquet: it’s redolent of stupid cat, obviously, but I miss it. Now I’ve moved away from him I might get an Olly, a little box that puffs out odours from your PC’s actions.

EDF! EDF! EDF! EDF! EDF! EDF! EDF! EDF!
By John Walker on November 8th, 2011.

“OMFG! OMFG! OMFG! OMFG! OMFG! OMFG! OMFG! OMFG! OMFG! OMFG! OMFG! OMFG! OMFG! OMFG! OMFG! OMFG! OMFG! OMFG! OMFG! OMFG! OMFG! OMFG! OMFG!” said Kieron Gillen when I sent him the link to Eurogamer’s story. Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon is to receive a PC release. “EDF! EDF! EDF! EDF! EDF! EDF! EDF! EDF! EDF! EDF! EDF! EDF! EDF! EDF! EDF! EDF! EDF! EDF! EDF! EDF! EDF! EDF!” he continued.
