This is the first Amalur gameplay video I have watched , having been utterly put off by the presence of an evil triumvirate like McFarlane, Salvatore and EA.
Trouble is, I really like the look of the combat – it reminds me a lot of Fable 2′s approach and I loved that game. I will now sit and brood on this, praying that the game turns out to be poo and I can rest my troubled conscience.
19/12/2011 at 12:21 mouton says:
Why is Salvatore evil? I mean, okay, he is a mediocre utterly generic fantasy writer whom I did enjoy when I was 15, but evil? Also, McFarlane?

Ah, the ludicrously large sword game. Probably the trademark of Big Huge Games.
The actual gameplay looks a bit too actiony for me, but I am interested in how a “real” writer (even though not the best of the best) compares as a video game writer to the normal ones.
19/12/2011 at 10:48 mondomau says:
The only positive thing I would say about Salvatore’s involvement in this is that his particular brand of clunky, cliche-heavy drivel probably works quite well in the generally (emphasis on generally!) less sophisticated realm of action RPG video game writing.
Nobody hit me.
19/12/2011 at 12:49 DogKiller says:
I think Salvatore’s writing is fun and all when you’re a teenager and have yet to read enough of his books to realise how predictable and plodding they are, never yielding anything unexpected or terribly daring. It’s not like he’s a bad writer, but his formula seems like it’s essentially been unchanged since he wrote the Icewind Dale trilogy. His prose is pretty decent compared to some authors I’ve read.

I can’t blame your french considering all the broken english I am bringing here. BTW do it more often, it’s highly enjoyable ^^
That being said I am actually excited by this. Is that me or is that the first MMO with exciting combat ?
20/12/2011 at 10:46 Burning Man says:
It’s a single player game. Yeah, it caught me off guard too, after an evening of watching WoW videos.
EDIT: Apparently, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning is the single player game. Kingdoms of Amalur is the setting for the MMO, which is currently named Project Copernicus. I am now satisfactorily confused.
