RPS Asks: What Will You Play This Weekend?

By Jim Rossignol on January 6th, 2012 at 2:54 pm.

One day games will all look like 19th century printing.
Hello. I hope you are having a lovely day. I wanted to ask you something. Now that the Skyrim frenzy seems to be dying off, and your gaming digestive system is bloated with games hoovered up from a run of excellent indie bundles, what will you be playing this weekend? How many of you are going back to things you bought before the Skyrim addiction set in? And how many of you are now faced with a stack of indie games that each demand your attentions? Perhaps you’ve finally realised how wrong you are about the Stalker games and have finally got around to playing them, eh? What shall it be? Speak!

Me? I shall be playing a bit of Starfarer, a bit of Perpetuum, and a smidgeon of Trine 2, just to balance out all those lasers.

  1. Tuggy Tug says:

    Limbo – nearly finished…

Heroes of Might & Magic V – potential to quit due to repetitive nature…

Nuclear Dawn – looks really interesting, just finished downloading it to Steam via Indie Royale Bundle.

  2. Crainey says:

I will most probably be playing World of Warcraft and trying to fight off the temptation to buy/play Star Wars: The Old Republic. haha. I will most likely play League of Legends with friends, Co-op Lara Craft and the Guardian of Light (which is very good by the way) and possibly finish Trine 2! #weekendnotlongenough!

    • Crainey says:

@frightlever: Yeah same here, the £40 (£45?) price tag is pretty steep even if you get the first month free (I assume and hope.). I’m not as worried about EA as Bioware seem pretty intent on doing good by players. Playing this is inevitable for me. Problem with WoW for me is that I have done everything there is to do, all I play for is the resets each week which occupy about 3 days of the week for me max and I do those during the week leaving nothing for the weekend, I guess that’s my fault though.

    • Scatterbrainpaul says:

I picked up Lara Craft and the Guardian of Light in the sale this time last year, but didn’t play it till a few months after, really enjoyed it, but couldn’t find anyone else playing the multiplayer. I wonder if the community has picked up a bit more now

    • sp0ng says:

Price in Europe is 39.99 and I am playing it for a week right now. So for me it’s SWTOR this weekend. The game will hopefully keep you from buying other games, so in the end pricing is not much of a blocking issue.

    • Crainey says:

@Scatterbrainpaul I couldn’t really tell you to be honest, I’ve been playing with one of my friends who got it in the sale you are referring to, I tried to get it during that sale but my payments wouldn’t go through some reason. The Co-op worked perfectly for us, he just created a game and invited me to it through steam invite which I accepted and we jumped into the game. There were however some issues such as your typical props not being in the same place which isn’t an issue really and spikes not appearing for me that are essential to doing a puzzle.

    • Milky1985 says:

      @sp0ng

“Price in Europe is 39.99 and I am playing it for a week right now.”

Last i checked UK was part of europe (even with the current idiots in charge trying to break that :P) and on origin its still not 39.99 :/

      http://store.origin.com/store/eaemea/en_GB/html/pbPage.SWTOR_EN/

Do you mean 39.99 Euros (via germany or something) in whcih case thats not a bad price

    • mod the world says:

Don’t buy SWTOR over Origin, it is way cheaper in retail stores. And even cheaper at onlinekeystore.com, where i got my key. (Altough my first key didn’t work and i had to contact support to get a new one…)

Anyways, playing 16hours of SWTOR this weekend and yes, i feel ashamed.

    • jrodman says:

Online key store seems to be a seller of used keys. I would recommend avoiding all the keys stores, actually.

    • Llewyn says:

Surely it’s available for less than £40 by now? I have a copy to be returned to Amazon which, thanks to excessively early ordering, cost me a lot less than that. Wondering now if I shouldn’t sell it somewhere instead and let someone who wants to play it share some of the benefit of that saving.

  3. Mashakosha says:

Arkham City, most likely. Terraria and probably a bit of Skyrim too.

    • Emeraude says:

Hopefully you will not suffer from the same vicissitudes I had with AC: game won’t launch – and what appears to be a Securom-related trouble to add insult to injury, all my external Hard drives disappeared after installation. Thank god for good old system restore.

  4. kregg says:

    Probably Saints Row 3 again.

  5. dangermouse76 says:

Battlefield 3. And Skyrim, I have a new night time mod and it’s scary as fuck. It has totally transformed the play experiance for me. I love it.

Just need to find a way to get Breezehome without starting Dragons and life is good.

    • sephiroth says:

Battlefield 3 for me and some L4D2 as I picked it up for me and my boy in the steam sales as I only played it on a tvbox so far (L4D2 that is BF3 isnt on the tvboxes just some shoddy spoof made by an EA marketing demon)

    • dangermouse76 says:

A friend bought B3 on Xbox for my birthday, so I am doing the right thing and playing with him for a bit then jumping over to the PC version when my graphics card gets an update.

On my 28″ CRT TV you can hardly make anything out it’s nearly unplayable for me. But me and the lady are investing in a projector soon, so will have it rigged up to that for some 12 foot diameter gaming goodness.

Skyrim on a projector is unreal especially if you have some surround sound as well.

    • Blackcompany says:

Could you specify that nighttime mod for Skyrim? That would be awesome.

    • dangermouse76 says:

@ blackcompany I am sure it is this one http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=4323

I also added lightening sound FX http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=1702

The sound for the lightening is really good on my speakers.

The lighting ( as in night time lighting ) MOD is more; you either like it or not I think. It can wash out some whites in bright daylight but I like the effect to be honest. In the dungeons it means that using a torch actually makes a difference. And seeing just the blue eyes of Draugers coming at you is quite cool.

  6. Craig Stern says:

X-Com. (I’ll also be playtesting Telepath RPG: Servants of God, but seeing as I’m developing it, that’s kind of a given.)

    • Beanchilla says:

I want to get into X-Com because I love the idea, but man that game just kicks my ass for some reason.
I’ll be playing binding of isaac in between my bouts of the usual confusion with X-Com

    • Craig Stern says:

Yup; I started playing it, then lost 3 men to the very first alien I found. I think I’m going to need some practice with this one.

    • Kent says:

I’ll also play X-COM. I find that I don’t enjoy the squad based combat as my guys are practically fit enough to storm whatever the aliens can throw at us right now, being decked with power suits and having heavy blasters equipped by 100% – it almost feels like I am commanding Space Marines. Of course, that also means that the interface is far too slow for me. x(

I’ll also try out Galactic Civilizations II again, but I doubt anyone here knows what it is.

  7. Rinox says:

After a week of stomach flu joys, I will probably be playing Job Seeker 2000 during this weekend.

    • 4026 says:

Oh yeah, definitely go for the classic version. They totally ruined the franchise with Job Seeker 2012: There Are No Fucking Jobs Anywhere.

    • NathanH says:

Yes, I couldn’t complete the 2011 version until I bought the Belgium expansion pack. Bloody DLC.

    • Rinox says:

I got that expansion pack but it’s still too hard for me. I may try another one, soon. I’m getting sick of having to hear I’m a bum all the time (and in the game).

    • James G says:

I’m currently due to complete it on Monday, so tomorrow I’ll be playing the moving house minigame. I’m hoping that they don’t throw any last minute twists in there.

Seriously though, good luck. It’s not fun I know, and gets really demoralising after a while. Oddly I found I actually faired better with my more ‘optimistic’ applications, possibly because I wasn’t swamped under thousands or other applicants.

    • DiamondDog says:

Getting serious if I may. I’m there myself (probably like many others) so good luck Rinox. Hope things go well for you this year.

    • Rinox says:

Thank you for your kind words, and the same to you. It’s a pretty shitty situation…I can’t seem to get into jobs that I am actually trained for, not enough ‘experience’ (ugh) and simple administrative jobs won’t hire me because I’m overqualified. All that’s left is to the absolute lowest rung of work. And given some past experiences, I’m not sure that’s not even worth the extra 100 € I may get from that. Meh. I’m thinking of emigrating and doing shitty work abroad, at least it’ll be something new.

    • Moth Bones says:

Back on Panzer Corps, a really absorbing game, though I’ve still only scratched the surface as I restarted at a higher difficulty (the beginner level was too easy even for me). I also went back to The Witcher in an attempt to finish it, now on the final chapter.

  8. NathanH says:

This weekend I will be playing varying degrees of the following:

    Avadon: The Black Fortress
    Depths of Peril
    Ultima VII
    Spectromancer
    Magic 2012
    Foot-to-ball Manager 2012
    HoMM3 Chronicles
    Panzer General 2
    Terraria
Possibly a spot of Dragon Age: Origins or Baldur’s Gate 2

  9. povu says:

I bought The Missing Link DLC for DXHR during the sale, time to give that a go.

  10. Okami says:

I’ve recently dusted off my old Box of X after not having used it in more than 6 months and will spend the weekend with Rayman Origins and Darksouls. If I play anything on my PC this weekend, it will probably be the Fortune Summoner demo.

  11. jimjames says:

    Guitar

    …until Diablo 3 comes out.

  12. Wolfman says:

    EVE Online
    League Of Legends
Skyrim (I was late to the party)

  13. JonJ says:

Skyrim – I got it in the Steam sale and so I’m only on my first play through. Currently playing without any mods, are there any out there yet that could be considered essential?

    • db1331 says:

I would get the HD texture pack and the flora texture pack. They totally transform the look of the game. Especially the flora pack.

    • The Tupper says:

The Sky UI interface mod is really nice and (touch wood) completely stable and hassle-free.

For what it’s worth, my PC continues (exclusively) to be a Skyrim delivery system. I’ve barely sniffed anything else since it came out (220 hours in) and I’m still on my first character. I’m level 41 – anybody know what the level cap is?

    • Blackcompany says:

As a special note here: I will include only mods which will compliment the vanilla game for now. Nothing that will ruin the vanilla feel, just enhance it. Fair warning, though, the game is not overly challenging the first time out. You will find rare items at vendors, etc. Something myself and many other modders will doubtless take care of as soon as we get the tool set. But below are a list of vanilla-friendly, game-play and visually enhancing mods. Nothing to ruin the original feel.
      .
These mods will let you play through a visually more appealing game, with a more organized favorites list, while preserving the vanilla feel, so when the tool set does emerge you can know what you wish to mod out/into the game.
      .
Sounds of Nature: water – http://skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=4226. New, immersive sounds for all running water in game. Includes waterfall sounds and is a nice change from vanilla. This is best with Immersive/Realistic Water from the Nexus, but I leave those to taste.
      .
Dragon Retex Pack: http://skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=3089. Improved textures for all Dragons, except Alduin, without cartoon recolor. Very nice addition to your game, if your PC can run it.
      .
Categorized Favorites Menu: http://skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=4862. This mod is the reason I play the game, now. The favorites menu becomes so crowded, and shouts and weapons so hard to find, that I had given up playing out of sheer frustration. Because of this mod I played 10 hours yesterday, through a head cold, after not playing the entire Holiday break. Might not work with other UI mods, though, not sure.
      .
Odahviin Rexture Project: http://skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=4008. Retextures a certain dragon in the game. Recommend you choose either Pearl Grey or the White retex for reasons that become obvious later. But feel free to pick another.
      .
Alduin as Shadow Dragon: http://skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=1968. Makes the World Eater look the part. Very nice retex of the big baddie. Recommend this.
      .
Glowing Ore Veins: http://skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=193. Sacrifices a small amount of realism for the sake of being able to see and more importantly recognize the ore veins in the game from further away than 6 inches. Worth the time if you want to craft armor.
      .
Quality World Map with Roads: http://skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=4929. Now there are roads on your map. The things you walk down. Which appear on most maps. And the option of an old world paper map, too if you want it. Highly recommended, but there are other map mods too.
      .
Animal Pack: http://skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=3621. Retextures most animals, for now. Author has plans to add variety of colors to the game once Creation Kit emerges. Choice of colors for each animal included. Highly recommended.
      .
All Black DB Armor: http://skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=1418. Because the Red/Black “Superhero Costume” the DB uses in the vanilla game is simply comical. Get this and a high res Nightingale retex too.

    • db1331 says:

The last level you get a Steam Achievement for is 50, but I think you can go higher, basically until you level every skill to 100 and can no longer earn any skill ups.

    • The Tupper says:

Thanks. In that case I don’t see myself leaving Skyrim any time soon – I still have a huge amount of unexplored terrain to cover and dozens of skills to learn. Loving it.

    • Grinnbarr says:

I was also late to the party and have been playing Skyrim almost non-stop – I installed an absolute ton of mods before I even started though – the aforementioned flora pack, better water, better night sky, QD inventory, Better Sorting (essential), a Quality World Map (also essential), Glowing Ore Veins, Ambient Seagulls… the list goes on. Basically, anything you don’t like, you can change!
I highly reccommend Nexus Mod Manager for this, easiest thing in the world to change your mods on the fly. Just remember what you change in case there’s anything that stops you loading saves. Hasn’t happened to me yet, fingers crossed, but it can happen you know.

    • Blackcompany says:

Skyrim is a good game. The mods make it great. The one I cannot live without now is the “Categorized Favorites.” It is, quite literally, the reason I am playing the game again. That ridiculous favorites list had grown so crowded in my game that I could no longer stand to even play. Combat was slogging through a list more than fighting.
      .
Then this mod saved me from all that.

  14. Nuclear Frisson says:

Finishing up Bastion and hopefully getting back to my Fallout playthrough.

  15. Blackcompany says:

Original Trine – Got it for 99 pennies on Steam. It was put on sale for $0.99 for about 60 seconds before they corrected the price. I nailed it down during that error and actually got it for that price. I should feel guilty, because its worth well more than that.
    .
Also finishing up the Civil War quest on Skyrim. Such a slacker. Just now hit 90hrs and defeated Alduin (the first time.)
    .
Hunted: The Demon’s Forge. $9.99 Holiday sale. Single player though, since co-op is a broken mess.
    .
Also, some LOTR: WITN and Saint’s Row the Third. Girlfriend cannot get enough of co-op in Saints Row. She loves that game and once we get going, its liable to be a late night of blowing shit up, stealing military aircraft via remote control and parachute and good old open world mayhem. And we owe it to RPS for their excellent review of Saint’s Row, and Green Man Gaming for their $20 discount code Christmas sale of Saints Row the Third (which really needs an SRTT, LOTR style acronym.)
    .
So many good games, so little time.

  16. Meat Circus says:

SWTOR. Need to make some headway on this so I feel I’ve done enough to return to Skyrim.

  17. sneetch says:

BF3, Terraria and Payday: The Heist for me, I hope, real life allowing. Need to get back to Skyrim though.

  18. GenFailure says:

This weekend i’ll keep dominating the stars on Sins of a Solar Empire. And of course a few hours of Battlefield 3. ^_^

  19. somini says:

    Max Payne 2
    Maybe Assassin’s Creed Revelations

  20. rei says:

Hopefully nothing, because I have way too much other stuff that needs doing. Unfortunately I’m weak, so probably more Binding of Isaac, which I seem to have become obsessed with.

  21. bobiroka says:

SWTOR – Doing my best to get both my Scoundrel and Jedi Sentinel to Lvl 20…

  22. timmyvos says:

Probably some Silent Hunter 4. I’m currently playing as a sneaky U-Boot captain who, on his first voyage in the Pacific, managed to destroy the HMS Howe, a 35000 ton British Battleship, the USS Enterprise and the USS Yorktown, both 20000 ton Fleet carriers in the harbour of Fremantle, Australia.

  23. DeanLearner says:

It’s a bit awkward actually, ages ago I had invited some friends over for dinner in Skyrim. I live in Breezehome of Whiterun but since inviting them I proceeded to lead a stormcloak attack to gain control of Whiterun. I’m probably being silly but I feel bad showing my face around there like nothing actually happened.

  24. db1331 says:

I might start a Dark Mode game on The Witcher 2. Probably some RDR Undead nightmare DLC as well, and some Skyward Sword.

  25. Zenicetus says:

Skyrim is on hold for a while, because it’s reached a point where the combat mechanics have become boring and I’m on autopilot half the time. I need some time away, so I can return later and just finish up the plot lines I’m interested in.

So it’s back to strategy games this weekend. I’ll probably try the Rise of the Samurai DLC for Shogun 2 that I picked up during the Steam sale, along with the Blood Pack DLC for appropriate Kurosawa-esque arterial spray.

    • Blackcompany says:

I know the feeling here. Something needs to happen in Skyrim to keep combat interesting throughout the entirety of the game. Once you receive high level armor you do go on autopilot. Puzzling over how to fix this for some time now; hopefully, i can come up with something by the time the Creation Kit is released.

  26. amorpheous says:

Not sure yet. I’ll peruse my catalogue of installed Steam games when I get home. Still haven’t played Sword of the Stars II so maybe that, but if not most likely back to Skyrim. Haven’t played it since before the holidays and although I’m not shaking from withdrawals I feel something tugging at me to go and finish some things.

  27. Wizardry says:

I’ll be playing World of Xeen.

  28. csuzw says:

Probably SW:TOR and hopefully Napoleon: Total War (although I’ve been thinking about going back to this for ages and have yet to do so).

  29. Colthor says:

Deus Ex: HR, hopefully. Skyrim knocked me out of that, but then Newtontide knocked me out of Skyrim.

  30. LieutLaww says:

EVE Online and SW:TOR and maybe some Minecraft as well.

  31. Vinraith says:

I’ll probably continue playing Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light in co-op, which is a great time, while dabbling with Assassin’s Creed: Revelations and Scourge of War: Gettysburg in single player.

  32. TormDK says:

SWTOR, prehaps some Battlefield 3 now that one of my mates got a computer that can handle it.

  33. Mirdini says:

League of Legends – A couple of games every day or so is always fun.

Total War Shogun 2 – A friend bought it through the Christmas steamsale, and I’m having a blast with the co-op campaign (in Rise of the Samurai, but we’ll likely do a regular one once we’re done). Can’t wait for Fall of the Samurai.

Napoleon Total War – So much more polished than Empire, even if it is somewhat less expansive. Jumped back in due to nostalgia while playing shogun, having fun with a prussian world domination campaign.

Sins of a Solar Empire – Or at least that’s the plan – a few friends and I are going to play some multiplayer (if we can hopefully find the time).

  34. chopsnsauce says:

    Modern Warfare 3 of course!

    …………………

    I’ll get my coat….

  35. Gasmask Hero says:

Now that i’ve walked away from Eve online..again..I guess some Blood Bowl practice is in order.

Oh, and some Geneforge 1. It’s surprisingly engaging.

  36. FCA says:

Skyrim. Maybe Bastion, and some Fallout 2.

  37. Olphas says:

I plan to finish Assassin’s Creed: Revelations.

Also: The Binding of Isaac. Again and again. And again.

  38. Ross Angus says:

Gave up on the Stalker mod Narodnaya Solyanka, so I’m on Tomb Raider: Anniversary. Don’t judge me: Tomb Raider is Christmas for me.

    • Jim Rossignol says:

I gave up on that mod too.

    • Ross Angus says:

Fair enough. It was a little too grim for me. I could have grinded my way through it, but I didn’t enjoy it as much as vanilla Stalker. I’m glad they put it together and translating it, though.

Oh – I did love the crazy vehicles though. The inexplicably fast bus.

    • westyfield says:

I bet that bus still isn’t as fast as the sprint.

    • Mirqy says:

I’m underground. In the dark. Bleeding. Low on ammo and bandages, stuck between some lethal anomaly and something…something else that will kill me if I get too close. And it’s your fault, Mr Rossignol. I hope you’re proud.

Also been playing Alpha Centauri again, just cos. It still stand up well.

    • rei says:

Aww. I’d been waiting for you to write about it again. I even used your save file to bypass the cave so I kinda felt like we were in this together :|

  39. Fuzz says:

SWTOR for the most part, I’d imagine. I’m woefully underlevelled compared to most of my mates at the moment, but the Mrs has a shedload of catching up to do this weekend work-wise, so in the next 48 hours, I intend to crush many Rebel scum.

That and some BF3 thrown in for good measure. And the odd LoL game too.

  40. Nero says:

Not much on my PC which is currently feeling like crap, but will probably finish Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath HD on PS3.

  41. piphil says:

This will be my first weekend home with my gaming PC in a while. Therefore – and I’m sorry if this is really boring – Skyrim.

  42. Daniel Klein says:

I bought so many games in the steam sale that I can’t wait to try out. SPAZ sounds amazing, my first 3 hours in Blur were exactly what I wanted from a racing game, I got into the whole Skyrim thing way too late, so I’m only now getting hooked–so yeah, I’m probably just going to be playing League of Legends all weekend again, because I have so many friends who want to play it with me. I’ll just trick myself into believing that it’s homework for casting IEM Kiev later this month.

  43. Wang Tang says:

Some Anno 2070, TF2. Also got DX:HR DLC to play, and wanted to replay ME1 and 2 to prepare for the third.
Well, scratch all that. I’ll be learning for math exams… :(

  44. Keilnoth says:

Skiing in Real Snow… For real…

  45. MuscleHorse says:

Still hopelessly addicted to Skyrim. Will probably play a bit of Saints Row 3 too if I can stabalise the framerate.

  46. SandmanXC says:

Gonna hit the Starcraft II ladder hard. To relax I’ll play some AssCreed II, cause I need to wrap that one up.

  47. Lucky Main Street says:

Frozen Synapse. I just it over the holidays and I’m totally in love with it.

  48. tungstenHead says:

SWTOR mainly, likely with some BF3 plus a splash of SR:TT for target practice. Terraria and Christmas books and movies are the backup plan.

  49. nabeel says:

Only just finished Bastion, absolutely beautiful game. I am considering Limbo now.

  50. Arathain says:

I’ll likely be playing a lot of Persuade the Newborn Baby That The Reason He’s Upset Is Because He Needs To Sleep, which seems to be a favourite game of his.

If this leaves me any scraps of time I will try to squeeze in any of the following, as my whims take me: Bastion, SpaceChem, Sequence, Binding of Isaac or maybe some Serious Sam (the first one). I’d like to take my Orks out for some Dawn of War 2 multiplayer, but it is highly unlikely I will feel able to commit the time.

  51. Gixugif says:

Hm… possibly a few things. Lord of the Rings Online certainly, and probably Cave Story +. Oh, a little Guild Wars certainly, and maybe some WoW. I’ve got too many MMOs

Maybe I’ll fit in some OoT on the 3DS too.

    • Skabooga says:

I was thinking about starting up Cave Story+ this weekend myself. It’s been a year or two since I’ve played any version of Cave Story, and it feels like it would be a good way to wind down after finishing my first playthrough of Serious Sam:BFE.

  52. Maykael says:

Star Wars: The Old Republic. And I’m loving it, you cynical bastards! :)

  53. idiotapocs says:

I’ll finish my extra-long coop civ4 session w my friend. I’m gonna NUKE the hell out of Boudica and Caesar!

  54. Wolfox says:

Hopefully, Anno 2070, Tropico 4, AI War, and Distant Worlds: Legends.

Though I’ll probably play those just a little bit and spend most of my time with Skyrim and X3: Albion Prelude, as that has been the case for the last couple weeks or so. ;-)

  55. GetEveryone says:

I have about a million games to play currently, all thanks to Steam. I also picked up a copy of Rayman: Origins for the PS360 around Christmas time, so I’m hoping that my girlfriend and I can co-op that together.

Being an accountant in January, though, means I tend to work weekends. Awful business.

Edit: I’m also trying desperately not to buy SWTOR. I know if I do, any semblance of a social-life (which is teetering on the brink, anyway) would blow away in the wind.

  56. Frostbeard says:

I have UFO already but will get the entire series on the steam sale (if its still on sale)

Will play a little UFO: Enemy Unknown because of the hype of the new one today on this blog. I also bought xenonauts just to check it out. (and support the indi effort)

Other than that it will be SWTOR.

  57. Staggy says:

Evidently, my impulse-buying glands didn’t get enough exercise in the Steam sales, so I picked up Age of Empires 3 complete last night, having never played it before. I’ll be hitting that this weekend.

*dons rose-tinted Age of Empire 2 goggles*

  58. Palimpsest says:

Continuing with Saints Row 3 and hopefully squeeze some BF3 in.

  59. amusingthebrood says:

I’ll play some more Dungeons of Dredmor (Steam christmas sale) and start either (or both) Sequence (Christmas sale) or KOTOR (Summer Sale).

If my wife fancies some computer-based gaming it will probably be either Terraria or a Wii dancing game, although I will try and convince her to try something different with the first Trine.

ETA: and of course my PBEM Civ IV game.

Oh, and I meant to play a couple of Frozen Synapse games as well.

  60. er910 says:

Bastion, Bloodline Champions (I really need to play more of this), Battlefield 3 and Mass Effect 2

  61. zontax says:

Just picked up XCOM:UFO Defense on steam, currently learning to play.
(all those casual games have numbed my mind)

Also playing New Vegas and L4D2 with a friend .

  62. ain says:

Super Street Fighter 4: Arcade Edition as always.

Probably some Dungeons of Dredmor mixed in.

If I get lucky some Dawn of War as well.

  63. mcol says:

Star trek online (f2p early access for old subscribers has started), bit of a guilty secret that one, the game is VERY Marmite, but I absolutely love it and chuffed it is now free.

..aaaand Skyrim of course, like everyone else.

A bit of Terarria and minecraft with the kids

  64. neolith says:

    Skyrim. Stupid question. ;P

  65. Drayk says:

Star wars Old Republic, but i start to get bored by all those fetching quests
    Maybe a bit of Skyrim
Deus ex HR: Missing link (i just bought it from the steam sales…)

And if i find some time I still have Bastion and Trine 1 to play.

  66. zind says:

Battlefield 3, mostly. Probably also some Skyrim – I might try to head through the main quest for a second time and hope it doesn’t bug me out on this character. Aside from that I’ll most likely dump some time into SPAZ and maybe a few rounds of Sequence. Mostly Battlefield 3 though. As much as I dislike Origin and the whole Battlelog thing and EA’s shenanigans in general, the game is just way too much fun.

  67. JackDandy says:

I’m currently obsessed with Tribes: Ascend. I’m simply having too much fun with it. New map incoming as well.

Kinda unfortunate that I can only focus on one game at a time- it’s really clogging my backlog!

  68. Raiyan 1.0 says:

    Half Life 3.

  69. Prime says:

X3: Albion Prelude. I’ve sunk 30 hours into this so far. Skyrim is but a distant memory. Just gotta earn another few mill then I can start kicking Terran/Pirate/Xenon ass in style….!

  70. Guest_84592 says:

    CTRL+F “Katawa Shoujo”

    RPS, I’m deeply disappointed.

    • JackDandy says:

Hey now, I already finished Hanako’s route. I gotta give my heart a few days to readjust before trying Rin’s path.

    • robotuw says:

I’ll throw my hat in with Katawa Shoujo too. Two and a half arcs through it now and I’m very impressed at the quality of the writing. Heck, even the dirty parts are pretty tastefully done.

After that I’ll probably finish that last floor on Sequence and get back into SPAZ. I’m worried it’s getting a bit grind-y though.

    • Kikimaru024 says:

I still find it hard to believe it’s finally out…

Also, Rin route is fraught with heartache.

  71. tentaclesex says:

    Microsoft Flight, y’all.

  72. westyfield says:

LA Noire. Picked it up in the Steam Christmas sale when it was on offer again.

Just finished Saints Row 3, I’ve done all the main missions and as many of the assassinations/thefts/challenges as I care to. Might try the co-op campaign sometime.

Edit: Oh, and I’ll also be playing Pack Up And Get Back To Uni: Modern Student, as well as Exams Must Die.

    • SiHy_ says:

Yeah I just picked up LA Noire as well. I’m surprised how much I’m really enjoying it despite all of its behemoth flaws.
I’ll probably also feed my Minecraft addiction and replay some UFO: Enemy Unknown and Diablo 2.
Wouldn’t worry about that student game too much though. The sequel Job Hunt 2000, as mentioned before, is completely sold out. :)

    • westyfield says:

Ah, but once I’ve finished The First Degree, I plan on playing its spiritual successor, PhD: Putting Off Getting A Proper Job For A Few More Years.
Got it all planned out. :)

  73. deadly.by.design says:

I will be setting up my new SSD and hopefully not spending too much time reinstalling.

Maybe faster-loading Skyrim? There’s also that Minecraft project that I can’t get out of my head…

  74. siegarettes says:

Late to the party as well, so I’ll continue to break in my fresh copy of Skyrim. All that aside, probably some Geneforge, Unreal Gold, whatever is in my backlog of 200+ games or so, Dark Souls/ Guwange on the Xboxy and probably some old DOS games while I’m reflecting on the past.

And probably Bastion since I can’t seem to stop playing it since I beat it.

  75. Johnny Lizard says:

Mass Effect. Bought it in the 2009 Steam Christmas sale, and almost finished it.

  76. Temple says:

*copies and pastes from the last 3 months and pastes to the next 7 months*
    City of Heroes

  77. mrwonko says:

I suppose I should rate more Ludum Dare games, having neglected that during the Steam Sale.

On the other hand I just continued Sam & Max Season 3, referring to a walkthrough since I was stuck, I may play more of that since it’s still hilarious. Once I’m done I already have Sam & Max: Hit the Road for more hiper kinetic rabbitty thing action.

  78. Unaco says:

I may try and finish The Witcher 2, and/or try and get more than 4 hours of Deus Ex HR played. I may also try to get into Space Rangers 2: Reboot that I picked up not long ago, but only played 1/2 an hour of. Some Shogun 2 and GalCiv2 as well, maybe.

On Sunday evening, however, it will be ArmA2. Joint-joint-joint-joint session, with contingents from ARPS (the RPS ArmA group), LDD, CiA, and our glorious hosts FOLK, the shining stars of the agrarian Revolution. ~100 of us in somewhat organised, somewhat serious Co-Op tacticality, with a custom designed mission. There will be IEDs. There will be tanks. There will be a glorious charge for the Revolution. There will be confusion, and no doubt some friendly mortar shots. There will be Tigershark catching the first bullet, while in command, and getting cut off mid-sentence (even better, that sentence will be about how clear it is, and to move up). There will be some ‘comedian’ asking about the RoE before we begin.

Aside from all that though, I think I’ll be doing some reading… ~300 pages of the Prince of Nothing trilogy left, then Erikson’s First Collected Tales of Bauchelain & Korbal Broach, which I received today, along with ICE’s Malazan books. I also have one of the classics on Neural coding, Spikes by Fred Rieke. I’ll also eat custard and sponge (got the taste for it over Chanukka at my parents house), and watch Sherlock on Sunday no doubt.

  79. Cryptoshrimp says:

Thinking about getting SW:TOR. I’m not a massive Star Wars fan, will I still enjoy it? If I skip that game, probably some UrW or Bastion.

EDIT: Oh nevermind. SW:TOR is 55 euro. That’s a lot and more than I’m willing to pay.

  80. Sorbicol says:

Battlefield 3 I suspect, with maybe a little Bastion and Skyrim thrown in. Oh, and Bloodbowl match to while I’m at it….

  81. soco says:

Just picked up SWTOR yesterday, so now that the subscription is on I’ll feel the need to get in there and hit it hard….but several other games are giving me dirty looks as to why I’m not hanging out with them:

Dragon Age: Origins- still have a bit of the DLC and Awakenings to finish up (the holiday break was devoted to getting the main campaign done so as a PC gamer I could look at myself in the mirror again having finally gotten through the shame of never playing it.)

Bastion and Limbo- picked up during Steam sales, must find more hours in the day.

When my co-op buddy is around there will be some Dead Island and Shogun 2: Rise of the Samurai.

  82. Heliocentric says:

Gemini Rue(with the Ensemble backlog thread), Dawn of war II: Retribution (the march of my overpowered Tyranid Hive Lord is unstoppable), Age of Empires 3(I bought it for 10p off GFW marketplace, Ottomans are win), Time to sink some hours into Deus Ex HR too.

  83. mike2R says:

More Saints Row the Third, which I picked up when it was on offer through the THQ store. I was sceptical of all the “this game is just so much fun” comments before playing it, but man, this game is just so much fun!

And it has difficulty settings. There is something about those sort of games that make me get really frustrated by dying. Not sure why exactly, but I just want to stroll through them kicking arse and taking names. Playing on Casual difficulty and loving every second.

    • FriendlyFire says:

Agreed, though Volition gets that. Even at normal difficulty, you can get to the point where you stroll through everything thanks to all the abilities you unlock…

When I saw the bullet damage reduction level 4 ability, I couldn’t remove that smile off my face for at least five minutes.

    • mike2R says:

hmm, haven’t got that far yet…. I shall look forward to finding out what it is :)

  84. psychoconductor says:

A bit of a mixed bag usually: LA Noire, Dungeon Defenders, SPAZ, and Dead Island. I purchased the Starfarer but my first hour or so of it didn’t impress. Might wait a bit longer to see how they refine it.

  85. Syra says:

In a frightening turn of events I have finally turned my ps3 on after a year or so to download and play Dead Nation for want of a proper zombie game on pc and not having the energy to point-and-click in l4d2.

Also Rochard, which I recently remembered to try the demo out for – will probably buy it.

  86. Trelow says:

Been playing Sims Medieval, quite enjoyable, could use a larger selection of quests though.

  87. Inglourious Badger says:

L.A. Noire. Finally picked it up in the steam sale and I am so far loving it. It’s like Mafia 2 but instead of tedious shooting there’s puzzles and conversations (and a little bit of tedious shooting). Curious to see if I feel the same way after a whole weekend of it

  88. Ridnarhtim says:

Just started Arkham City last weekend. Been dying to get back to it, it’s been a long five days….

  89. Gassalasca says:

    Empire: Total War.

Playing it for the first time, enjoying it thoroughly.

  90. Ephaelon says:

Planning to finish off Mass Effect 2, preparing the save game for ME3 (femShep badassery). It’s only my 2nd playthrough as I lost my original save in one of a dozen reformats.

And I really, really need to get around to finishing Space Marine. It’s not even a long game.

  91. The Greatness says:

Just bought X-Com cheap and played it for the first time (sorry) so I might play some of that, but my first battle ended with me charging my men into a UFO and getting them instantly gunned down by a couple of aliens. Not a great start.

I’m rather tempted by the Age of Empires 3 deal that’s on at the moment so I might give that a try. I’ve also been meaning to download Company of Heroes and play that, but I’m not sure if I’ll get round to downloading all 9GBs of it. I’m sort of in between games right now though, so I’m not really sure what I’ll go for. I have loads of other stuff in my steam account I might download on a wim, and I’ve put of downloading that 3.8GB BF3 patch so I might play some of that too. So much choice!

  92. airtekh says:

I’ll be playing Dead Space 2, which I’m really enjoying so far. I’ll probably finish Bastion as well.

I’ve started having a few races here and there in Dirt 3 too.

  93. Shooop says:

Need to finish one run-through of Skyrim, then return to Arkham City in hopes of eventually getting to punch the Riddler in the face, and do a second run-through of The Witcher 2. Did Iorveth’s second act, need to do Roche’s. Serious Sam 3 in short bursts in between like always.

Then back to Skyrim to be a Khajiit assassin. Hail Sithis!

…And I know I’m forgetting one or two other games.

  94. Kefren says:

Frozen Synapse (PC) and Abandoned Places (Amiga emulator)

  95. Thany says:

    Yakuza 4 on PS3 :P

well you asked so deal with it.

  96. kalidanthepalidan says:

    Gemini Rue….

Pokemon: White… (please don’t hit me).

  97. frenz0rz says:

Most likely EU3 (my once-grand Muscowy campaign that is quickly deteriorating) with a smattering of DoW2: Retribution multiplayer.

Started playing as orks recently and they’re great fun – jus’ grab yer’ warboss, 3 squads’a slugga boyz an’ a wartrukk, an ‘av yerself sum WAAAAAARGH!!! Humies iz me favourite killin’!!

    • The Greatness says:

Damn, EU3, I didn’t think of that. I might have to play some of that now. I just need to think of a way to deal with those pesky Scots now I’ve annexed all of Ireland.

  98. jezcentral says:

    I will be playing SWTOR.

DXHR: Missing Link and Saints Row 3 might feature, though.

  99. FriendlyFire says:

Saints Row: The Third with a side dish of Freelancer through the newly-released Discovery 4.86 mod. I may also go back to SpaceChem every once in a while if I don’t get too annoyed by trying to solve all the puzzles with a single reactor…

  100. DevinH says:

I’ll be finishing up Hard Reset, and moving on to Q.U.B.E. Might break up some of my play time with random games in my backlog.

  101. Milky1985 says:

    Halo anniversery edition (takes cover)

But also Serious Sam 3 (hum, cover doesn’t seem to work) , WoW with some mates and plan to play some more terraria and maybe start LA Noire (8.75 was a sodding bargin during the steam sales)

  102. Tybalt says:

SW:TOR played as KOTOR 3; Dark sided Sorcerer, grey jedi guardian and Lightsided(revanite) Sith Warrior in sequence, if i keep to my plan. Which I probably wont’. And maybe Solium Infernum if I can get a couple of friends interested, your republished write up made me want to play it against people.

  103. molluskgonebad says:

Serious Sam 3 is going to dominate my weekend. Bought it during the Steam Sale and wondered why I hadn’t preordered. I haven’t felt this happy about an FPS since the 1st Serious Sam. Maybe Painkiller…

Only thing pulling me away is Dark Souls on my devil’s console.

Oh and Jamestown, which I’d dismissed for some reason, bought for cheap, and love to death.

  104. Nathan_G says:

I’d really like to finish up DX:HR as it’s been dragging on for a while now.
SpaceChem will definitely get a look in, and I might even try finishing up Thief 3…

  105. MonolithicTentacledAbomination says:

Diablo III beta – I played a monk up to max level, and I’ve got a wizard started, too. She’s pretty.

Fallout 3 – 20 hours in, level 9, Speech & Unarmed maxed, 3 ranks of Iron Fist perk and a Power Fist just decimating everything in my way. I’m only on the second or third leg of the main quest, though.

  106. Jahandar says:

SWTOR, and probably not much else

  107. Avish says:

I’m taking a break from Skyrim to play some Shogun2.
Maybe some Arkham city and just cause2

  108. vecordae says:

I will probably finish my minecraft project up. I watched some FyreUK videos and got inspired. After that, it will probably be either Gratuitous Space Battles (I picked it up for the first time in that indie bundle that was making the rounds), X3 Albion Prelude, Skyrim, or perhaps one of my backlog of games I wanted to play at length but never got around to. Morrowind is in there, as is King Arthur, and the Last Days of Middle Earth mod for the original Mount and Blade.

It depends on how many bottles of various Samuel Smith beers I drink, really.

Also, since I see that you post here from time to time, you make a fine space game, Cliffski. I’ll probably pick up the various DLC to your game today. Been enjoying it immensely as it fulfills my needs for gratuitous violence and space lasers.

  109. Navagon says:

In terms of multiplayering there will be some Nuclear Dawn and possibly some Brink.

  110. zeroskill says:

Dota 2 mostly, some Terror from the Deep which I just picked up, alot of ToME4 probably, which I just got hooked on, if I have some time left then maybe some Team Fortress 2, stocking up on items or something.

  111. terry says:

I’m likely to soldier through more widow-shouting action in LA Noire and a bit of dragon-shouting action in Skyrim.

  112. bwion says:

Having bought numerous games in the Steam sale, I shall proceed to ignore them all and carry on playing games I’ve owned for years. Specifically, Morrowind, Mass Effect, and Civilization 4.

  113. Arona Daal says:

Downloaded the new Map pack for Project Reality (bf2),and probably some Knigths of the Chalice and Shadowgrounds.

  114. TODD says:

    Battlefield 3
    EVE Online
    APB: Reloaded
    maybe some L.A. Noire

  115. kud13 says:

Probably gonna get back to Arkham city.

once the framrate gets under my skin, I’ll switch to my current playthorugh of the Witcher (wanted to play 2 on my shiny rig, but my savegames have all dissapeared, so i had to start 1 from scratch), or some more E.Y.E: Divine Cybermancy.

or, maybe i’ll finally start working on my huge backlog of games. who knows?

  116. Abundant_Suede says:

Mostly I have to work, but over the next week I’ll also be trying out some Starfarer, and checking out the Freelancer mod scene with a copy of Freelancer I picked up on Amazon over the holiday.

I suppose I should force myself to finish Deus Ex HR as well, because so many people around here gave it GOTY nods, I figure I should see it through.

  117. eydryan says:

I’ll be playing Modern Warfare 3, with my newly unlocked golden MP5 :) FFA because I have no friends. Oh, and survival, fingers crossed to get a good partner…

  118. Synchrony says:

Once I finish my game of “BSOD error fixer 2012″ I`ll probably be on LA Noire, UFO Enemy Unknown and Kerbal Space Program

  119. FhnuZoag says:

I’ll be playing ToME (Tales of Maj’Eyal) 4, which is a surprisingly good free roguelike.

    • Skabooga says:

I think I’ll play a few game of Brogue this weekend myself. Provided I don’t accidentally install Deus Ex:HR this weekend.

  120. Foosnark says:

I’ll be playing electric violin. And Champions Online and Worms Reloaded.

My wife has started on Oblivion. Hates the interface, asked me several times how to do basic things (and I don’t remember)… and managed to stay up until 6:30 this morning playing anyway. I hope she installed some mods in that time.

  121. Xorlathor says:

Lots and lots of terraria. Just started up a new world in a snow biome, so when hardmode starts I’ll be 100% corruption and hallow free in my base.

  122. LintMan says:

Skyrim is still sitting in shrink-wrap on my shelf. I’m aging it like a fine wine, giving Bethesda and the mod community more time to fix/enhance it.

In the meantime, I have a backlog of games to play:
    The Witcher 2
    Rage
    Brink
    Terraria
    Greed Corp
    Arkam City
    Dirt 3
    Dungeon Defenders
    Trine
    Europa Universalis III (with expansions)
    Many other small/indy games

At the rate I buy new games, I’m never going to catch up.

  123. Moraven says:

    LoL with friends. Some WoW.

Started up X-COM again. Veteran game. Going to try to play it 30-60 mins at a time and complete it for once. Streaming when I play. http://twitch.tv/suftv

  124. Spindrift says:

    Katawa Shoujo.

    Then Serious Sam 3.

  125. sinister agent says:

I haven’t played Skyrim for about a month, maybe even longer. Too much catching up to do as it is. Instead, I’ll be playing Galactic Civilisations 2. I’m about 2/3 into a gigantic campaign as the industrious Thalan, and have been quietly creeping along with a mediocre military for years, while secretly building up the infrastructure to build a monstrous armada overnight, and the economy to simply buy half the galazy outright. I’ve yet to play a game where I won by conquest instead of just smothering everyone with diplomacy and cultural insurrection, so this might be it.

I might also be playing some Hardwar, because it’s loooong overdue.

  126. Vorrin says:

Bloodline Champions (vorrintal there, if anyone wants to team up)
Battlefield 3 (vorrin, same as above)
maybe some Nuclear Dawn just cause it was in a bundle and I want to check it out
maybe some Spacechem, cause it’s making me feel stupid as I can’t pass one bloody level (also, indiegame of 2011 for me)
and dunno, possibly some Men of War: AS if I can get any friend to help me out, as I bloody can’t beat the skirmishes alone -_-

  127. ran93r says:

I will most likely be flaming the faces off republic numpties in TOR, sadly both my main choice and legacy surname were taken so someone is having more fun than me running around as “Bob Fett”.

I will perhaps spin around merrily in the port-tastic Red Faction and his Gorilla and if I ever get around to it, I will be downloading Portal 2 both of which I picked up last week for insane cheeps.

  128. Hendar23 says:

    Baldurs Gate 2, tastefully modded.

I’ve been playing Finding A Job 2012: Where In The World Are All The Jobs? and I’m about ready to ragequit for the weekend.

  129. Targaff says:

    OpenTTD. It’s always OpenTTD.

  130. Agnol117 says:

Skyrim, mostly. Maybe The Binding of Isaac some more, now that I know there’s an expansion coming.

  131. Forceflow says:

I had to choose between Batman: Arkham Asylum, Skyrim, RF: Armageddon and LA Noire, which are all downloaded and ready on my steam list.

    I went for LA Noire.

    I might reconsider.

  132. jaheira says:

Chess, Avadon and HoMM 6. Turn-based-a-geddon!

  133. Lamb Chop says:

Starcraft 2 – Friend is streaming and blogging a big push to get to the top of Masters league this month, and I’m his defacto Zerg practice partner
    Battlefield 3
    Skyrim
    Serious Sam: BFE
just beat Bastion so I may muck around in that too

(this is skipping Arkham City, Missing Link DLC, and everything else I picked up for xmas)

    Interactive Sim:
Brother’s Birthday Bash, the 32nd edition (though I was too young to play the first 7)

  134. Alias says:

A little bit of skyrim, dota2 as usual and some Terraria with the wife.

  135. Aquamarine Jesus says:

Dota 2, Sanctum, Serious Sam 3, dota 2, Kohan, dota 2

  136. Robsoie says:

This week planning include freeplay for me

DoomRL 0.9.9.5 that has been out since a few days with lot of changes, that even have the graphical version ready (only for donators for now)
    http://doom.chaosforge.org/articles/31/doomrl-0995-released

winSP:MBT , the always most excellent wargaming heaven, being in the middle of a PBEM in which i see my sorry excuse as an army being slowly crushed.
    http://www.shrapnelgames.com/Camo_Workshop/MBT/MBT_page.html

Lucas Chess, my favorite open source chess program with its amazing tutoring hint functions and ai opponents for every kind of level , even for chess players as bad as me.
    http://lucaschess.host22.com/

Rogue Survivor, that got version 6.2.1 released few days ago, only had a quick run that ended badly, being devoured by army of rats in the sewers, i need revenge.
    http://roguesurvivor.blogspot.com/

  137. Abraham says:

    DOTA 2

  138. Brian Rubin says:

All Driver: San Francisco, all the time.

  139. EmaciatedSandwich says:

Tribes ascend, they have just released a new patch too.
Skyrim now and again i think.

  140. pertusaria says:

The one thing I will definitely load up is Machinarium – I always seem to get a bit further into any given puzzle every time I play.

Other than that, it’d be nice to get further along in Gemini Rue (I’m still near the beginning), and I’m still trying to figure out Europa Universalis.

  141. ninjapirate says:

L.A. Noire – and, my god, the (voice) acting and the facial expressions floored me. The bar has been raised quite a bit with this game, I feel like it’s spoiling me.

  142. BlackestTea says:

It’s gonna be an older games’ weekend for me: Finish Portal 2, hopefully also Planescape: Torment. Throw some Space Chem and Terraria in the breaks. At night, I shall sit down for some Amnesia sessions – let’s see how long I can keep those up. Ah – and also: Day of the Tentacle. I heard so much nicety about this game so I’m actually quite excited to play it for some laughs (potentially as a counterbalance to Amnesia).

  143. ThTa says:

    Terraria and Tribes: Ascend, probably.

  144. Emeraude says:

Mastering a game of Mouse Guard on Sunday morning, and a Shadowrun one-shot in the evening… between the two I hope to organize some Bomberman, Tetris Battle Gaiden, and/or Twinkle Star Sprites tournaments.

If I’m good enough and manage to finish that translation job soon enough, I plan to replay Dark Messiah of Might and Magic on Saturday night – we’ve had many talks about it while discussing Skyrim and I wish to refresh my memory of it.

  145. haruspex says:

Atom Zombie Smasher. SpaceChem. The Bastion demo. Flotilla. And I’ll probably finish up Serious Sam: The Random Encounter.

  146. RSeldon says:

Avadon — got it during the Steam sale and I’m really enjoying it so far. Also just downloaded the demo for Q.U.B.E., so I want to try that out, and I might bash my head against some SpaceChem puzzles a bit if my brain feels energetic enough.

  147. Thants says:

Boardgames! Gonna get together with some friends play some Catan, Bonanza, Bang, maybe a little Magic.

  148. mpk says:

    Diablo II!

And mibbe a bit of Perpetuum. Sorry guys, but looters gotta loot….

  149. I_have_no_nose_but_I_must_sneeze says:

I just took a break from being engulfed by luminescent bubble beasts to write that I’m playing Metro 2033. Will I ever manage to keep my ally alive in D6? Remains to be seen, partially digested in some slime’s stomach. I’ve also been playing The Binding of Isaac, which can be an exercise in frustration but there’s always something interesting and new happening that keeps me going. I haven’t had a chance to pay Mom back yet. Maybe one of these days.

  150. Fidelicatessen says:

Got Borderlands for xmas, then got my wife playing a shooter, of all things. We’ll be co-opping our way through Borderlands for many hours this weekend. It’s not a new game, but it’s pretty cool!
