Being famous nowadays is mostly a challenge. Instead of being recognised for hard work, you’re recognised for being recognisable. Getting in the position to be recognised, just known, is more important than talent. Which makes The Sims 3: Showtime an interesting critique of current celebrity culture: if becoming a star is now a gameshow, it takes a game to show that the correct way of doing it is being talented and working hard.
Also: the special edition stars Katy Perry. Here’s the bog-standard, non-glamorous version without the gloriously haired Ms Perry.
And now the 100 percent better Perrified Sims Showtime.
Ahem. Sorry. My little joke. This is the Katy Perrified special edition. But I’d totally play a version where you’re those guys, polka-ing up awesome pop songs all the way to the top of popular culture.

EA is making it right this time, because a previous expansion pack Nightlife was like real life in which sims got famous just by hanging around and becoming friends with famous people.
I think The Sims 3 is a great game, but there’s something keeping it from being it amazing. Maybe it is because they seem to be being more creative in The Sims Social and just rehashing The Sims 2 with this game, but at the same time I miss more advanced simulation stuff like Business and Seasons which made the previous game more immersive.

Forget football manager, I want Ukrainian Polka band manager, where you start out searching the underground polka network of Ukraine for the band that will launch your career to become the world’s best polka band manager. At first you would have to find them jobs at them for parties and as time goes buy and they get more famous and better, you find them their first big break. Their career launches and brings about world peace, and you are forever know as the manager who brought it all together.
Then the sequel could be you having to go buy cheap drugs and hookers for the band, until they go into a downward spiral and break apart thus throwing the world into WW3, and the president of Nigeria appoints you to find the next big Ukrainian polka band before the whole world blows itself to pieces.
