Uh-huh. Yep. Right, yeah. That. OK, OK, I’ll get to it in a second. Five more minutes, alright? Oh, sorry! I’m just practicing ignoring friends and loved ones, you see, because Vlambeer – they of everything from masterfully addictive Super Crate Box to spookily minimalist Yeti Hunter - have announced that they’re dusting off flash project Luftrauser for a full, completely pluralized release in the form of Luftrausers. Go ahead, try the browser-based bite of dogfighting bliss. I’ll wait. OK, now imagine that with full plane customization including “futuristic lasers” and… yep, you’re already ignoring me. Seems about right.
“It’s definitely hitting PC – whether its through browsers or not we’re not quite sure of just yet, but PC for sure,” Vlambeer’s Rami Ismail told RPS.
So that’s positively wonderful, but what manner of physically impossible WWII plane boat-dolphin shenanigans will we be up to this time?
“Luftrausers is basically Luftrauser redone from scratch, with everything ten times as spectacular,” Ismail told Joystiq. “The biggest difference is that you’ll be able to build your own Rauser.”
A pitch document given to the site went on to boast “over 255 deadly combinations,” which – presumably – come in addition to other, largely harmless combinations.
For now, other details are TBD, but more info could be headed our way as early as next week. So that’s… well, this is strange. Even I’m ignoring me now. Oh well, best not to question it. More Luftrauser!

This is rather exciting. I’ve sunk more hours into SCB than many of my Steam games. Can’t try the old version presently though.

Is the site down ? I can’t seem to be able to access it.
EDIT : Nope, fine now.
Anyway, loved Luftrauser and the soundtrack was awesome too !

It’s basically like Wings of Fury on the Amiga. I miss that game.
Time to set up the old 500+.

I loved bombing the shit out of those ..poor people, wot with the death cries and explosions and all.

Turns out its a lo-fi game with one button and not much purpose or real fun.
That’s from the hands of the Yeti Hunter makers alright.

Oh, I must be having fake fun then.

Ersatz fun.

If you are playing with only one button, how do you steer? It’s not a fly directly upwards, bounce off the sky and then end up in the sea before exploding simulator you know!

Wait, isn’t this the announcement of game that’s not been released yet, based on a game that is, yet you seem to know what the former is…

Wait, is that what it’s supposed to be? Reading it in a German accent ruins the pun :(

I’d love to play a 3D flying game with the same sort of physics as Luftrauser – lots of inertia, and your engine has two settings: Off and Bloody Fast, changing your heading almost instantly.
24/04/2012 at 11:31 westyfield says:
Oh, heck yes.
24/04/2012 at 21:45 Darloth says:
You could try Flying Saucer – it was never released but I think is still available somewhere, somehow. Admittedly, there’s pretty much no inertia in that, but your engine DOES change heading instantly, and it’s 3d, and you dodge in the same sort of weird patterns you do in Luftrauser.

Looking at the jaw of that skull it’s (or was) either Terrence or Philip.
24/04/2012 at 12:09 The First Door says:
Every time someone reminds me of this game I end up wasting at least 15 minutes gleefully jetting around and crashing into other planes when I should be working! I feel like I should be more annoyed about that than I actually am.
24/04/2012 at 12:41 Bluerps says:
Wait. I thought Luftrauser was NOT by Vlambeer. Now I’m confused.
24/04/2012 at 14:20 Zanpa says:
No, it’s by Not Vlambeer. Totally different.
24/04/2012 at 15:45 Bluerps says:
Aah! That makes much more sense. Thanks for clearing that up.
24/04/2012 at 20:24 Zanpa says:
So it is the guys from Vlambeer, but it is not a “Vlambeer project” (whatever that means). They use “Not Vlambeer” for a few of their games (Dinosaur Zookeeper comes to mind).
24/04/2012 at 23:03 Bluerps says:
Yes, five minutes after reading your post, my brain went “Wait. I don’t think he was joking.” and I googled “Not Vlambeer”. So, seriously, thanks for clearing that up. :)

Luftrauser kinda reminds me of good old Wings of Fury, when you’re flying up high.
