Quantum Conundrum Serves Some Science Juice

By Adam Smith on May 17th, 2012 at 8:00 pm.

Not time for fun with physics but rather fun with the physics of time

When John tried to unravel Quantum Conundrum he reported that there were several dimensions, including a heavy one, a gravity reversing one and another that slows down time. Those sit alongside (if dimensions sit or have sides) the fluffy dimension that has been shown in the previously released videos. I didn’t believe a word of Walker’s report of course. Why would he be traipsing around dimensions that the rest of us haven’t even laid eyes on? What gives him the right?

Sadly, a new video shows that there is indeed a dimension that slows down time more effectively than Uncle Boring McDullston’s slides from his annual fortnight long road trip around Milton Keynes’ grid system. John probably made a lucky guess.

Did anyone else notice the car driving backwards in the scene where the guy is outside jumping around? @ 1:05

    Thanks, Kim Swift! Thimswift!

Toon Portal then? Don’t they have Final Fantasy MXVIX to work on or something?

  4. Mr. Mister says:

Since we’re getting scioency serious, you can’t define those things as traditional dimensions.
You could say, instead, that they are different positions along another dimension.

  5. Mr. Mister says:

Also, funny thing: for begginers, relativity defines time as “that which is measured by a clock”.
The clock definition for begginers is a bit fallacious though, so you gotta get to the juicy stuff before trully understanding.

In the related comments, Q is one of the voice actors for this game.

I got a strong Douglas Adams vibe from that trailer.

If the game is half as good I’ll be happy.

Someone’s been watching Look Around You.

And, uh, trying a little too hard. Just a bit painful this, really. PIE!! LOL RANDOM

      I agree with LionsPhil.

      I agree, too.

I almost wonder if it’s a reference to how their humor won’t be meme-spouty, like the cake was.

    • tomeoftom says:

Yeah, this grated. Especially because Look Around You has basically “finished” this particular form of parody, by doing it so well and comprehensively.

    • El_Emmental says:

I agree, even if I learned about “Look Around You” thanks to Lionthis’ comment.

I confirm the LOLRANDOM! part with the pie was the most “poor kid is trying too hard” moment.

    • HilariousCow says:

Yep. Chucking a thumbs up in the middle of a scene is the hand equivalent of gurning.

While I look forward to the game, I get a bit (well, a lot) irritated at marketing in any field using comedy shows/memes etc. as an advert treatment. They are almost always inferior to the original since they have to shoulder their very prominent need to sell-some-shit.

They showed a video with slowmo dimension long ago. Reverse gravity is new, though.

  10. Bloodoflamb says:

[physicist]ACTUALLY, the second is defined by the length of a certain number (9,192,631,770) of transitions in a ground-state cesium atom.[/physicist]

    • Urthman says:

By “length” you mean the total distance in meters traveled by the atom during those transitions?

Defining time is more complicated than defining a second.

It bugs me that they think IDS is an acronym for Interdimensional Shift Device. Shurely shome mishtake
