Blue has pointed out that we seem to have got some news from 2010 this week, with the arrival of the Serious Sam HD: The Second Encounter demo on Steam. The HD version of The Second Encounter was originally release just under two years ago, and has waited until now to get a demo. It seems to be promotion for the 75% sale of the game currently taking place on Steam, but seems like a good opportunity to try it for nowt, should slaughtering endless hordes and delivering a few quips be your sort of thing.

The hell is this

More accurately, why the HELL is every serious sam game (including BFE) CHEAPER than BFE standalone?
Did someone really screw up here?
COMPLETE PACK (includes ever serious sam game made to date, including the abomination that is 2): 21.75
BFE: 39.99

It is tied to the newly released DLC for it, and if you buy it over at Amazon at 75% off as well you get the DLC for 1.5$ off.

I have such fond memories of the original, despite never having played the first one. Memories of playing the campaign with a group of friends at a LAN party into the wee hours!

Still haven’t played.

Dear Croteam,
You have a newer game. It’s called Serious Sam 3. Please focus on that one.

It’s so true, I’m a bit, well, off-put, that there’s NEW DLC for a game OLDER in the series.
What was BFE, a failed attempt or something?

They’ve actually pushed out quite a few updates for BFE.
As for pricing I have seen it on sale in 3 different places the last 3 weeks, all of them around $10-$13.

New “Legend of the Beast” DLC for Serious Sam HD is mostly the reason for the discount: http://store.steampowered.com/app/41019/
Serious Sam 3 DLC is still baking in the oven. :P

Do any of the new Serious Sams remakes have splitscreen?
17/05/2012 at 17:50 TechnicalBen says:
Even SS3 did AFAIK. They kept it in. One of their jokes was you can still play it with 4 people on 1 keyboard just like the original. :D
17/05/2012 at 18:24 IckyThump says:
Hmm, I just did a bit of research, and it looks like SS3 has splitscreen, but the HD remakes do not. Steam does sell the ‘classic’ versions of first and second encounter, but from what I remember getting a controller to work with the original games was a huge pain.
17/05/2012 at 18:44 LionsPhil says:
If I remember correctly, didn’t the HD remakes also take out LAN play, one of the biggest reasons to own Serious Sam games?
This is, frankly, a baffling release.

You want to play a FPS… on the PC… with a controller.
That’s amazing.

I’m as pro-M&KB as they come, but using a controller for local multiplayer makes sense to me, especially if it’s co-op.
