The Air Buccaneers remake continue apace, and Ludocraft wanted to let us know that it now features terrifying air-tentacles, with Octopus-based airships making war on each other in the misty skies of their peculiar world. Yes, that’s right, you can see the tentacular dirigibles blasting each other with bombards in the latest trailer, below. Yes, those crazy Ludofolk are clearly having fun with this remake of the classic mod. You can have fun with it too, because it’s currently available to play for free.
Anyone playing this? I am wondering if we need to organise an RPS game. Skyctopi below.

Hmmm, I fear that my somewhat irrational phobia of octopi may keep me away from this update – for the same reasons that I found the ‘FatBoy Slim’ bit in the closing ceremony highly problematic.
It’s a strange phobia until you realise that they are like hyper-smart, multiple-hearted, camouflaging, giant, beaked, underwater spiders with tentacles that can shoot ink and get through incredibly small spaces.
Irrational fear, or simply pragmatric planning for when they rise up and take over the planet?

They actually have the same amount of heart as mammals; their heart just happens to be split in two, but they have two atria and two ventricles all together, if I’m not misaken.

And I no longer consume Octopus for just those reasons. It’s not good to eat things that are smarter than some of our cousins.
Hopefully, this will be taken into account by our new Octopi Overlords when they take over.

I bought it yesterday thanks to Gamersgate’s summer deals, and boy it is so much fun. And at first the servers might seem like deserted, but once you get in one, people start to pop in almost instantly. And best thing of all is that with 4 people it’s loads of fun, but a bit laggy (being alpha and stuff).
But, yeah, organise that RPS game already, and give this game more love!!

I just wish to correct what temotodochi said. LudoCraft indeed was part of the University of Oulu, but we’ve been an independent game development company since 2006.
Oh, and just to clarify, I’m the guy who writes the news on AirBuccaneers.com. Great to see that so many of you like the octopus airforces we’ve shown on that new Beta Work-in-Progress video.

This feature on RPS actually brought quite a few more people on RPS. I think we played a few rounds with over 20 people! :)
It is awesome fun! Laughed the entire way through it… boarded another ship as it boarded us, then we counter-boarded and were successful, and then boarded another ship which had previously been taken, before succumbing to an enemy survivor who threw gunpowder grenades onto our ship.
Seriously, if more people get on here, they’ll be forced to make double-decker ships. SO GET ON THERE :D
