Robot Loves Kitty, whose back catalogue includes weirdo pseudo-MMO Neverdaunt and minimalist platformer Tiny Plumbers, is now working on Legend Of Dungeon. This is apparently a “4 Player Co-op Rogue-Like-like Beat’em’up with Dynamic Lighting on AWESOME Pixel Art.” Yes, I’ll let that description sink in for a moment, as tiny excitement-enzymes burst from your brain-tubes.
And yes, it’s using 3D clever lighting visuals with pixel art. Sounds impossible, I know. But it looks great. Watch the trailer, below.

Wierd, I was just looking at a 2D engine I was thinking of using that generates lighting similar to that using normal maps, I quite like the effect myself

This looks genuinely interesting. I hope they consider bringing in some classic roguelike elements into the mix and also, hopefully itemization similar to the original Rogue. Too much level based linear item progression lately for my tastes. Well that’s probably asking too much though.

The textual description just kind of slipped by me, but seeing it in action certainly peaked my interest. Getting chased by a big ogre in the dark as you frantically run towards the exit is my idea of a good time.
