One has to travel far back through the archives of RPS to discover the last mention of The Ultima 6 Project, a remake and embellishment of the original game that uses the Dungeon Siege engine. A Mr Gillen was the last to write of the game, his cockles toasting in the glow caused by such a large mod project reaching the 1.0 milestone. Now, two and a half years later, the project has reached 1.1, with quest improvements, bug fixes, improved mapping and additions to the dungeon system. Those last changes are important because some of the dungeons are gargantuan and you’ll need all the help you can get.
It’s unfair to call this project a remake because it adds a huge amount to the original game, including NPCs, plotlines and dungeons. If you have a copy of Dungeon Siege handy and are in the mood for an RPG, this is the perfect gift. A gift to yourself. You deserve it, don’t you? After all, it’s Monday, you’ve worked hard today and why shouldn’t you indulge in a little fantasy roleplay?
This 1.1 release is intended to be the final version of the project. You can download it right now.

Can someone give me general description of the Dungeon Siege combat style?

Serviceable, not sure how this mod changes it up, if at all.

You click once and then you sit back and watch the game play itself (DS1).

It looks good. I’d like to see U7 next, and maybe Betrayal at Krondor.

God I’ll eat a puppy for a remake of Betrayal at Krondor – I loved that game so very, very much.

I’ll share this puppy with you!

What sort of puppy? Are there limits on size, age, cuteness?

A year old, stinky pug. You may not skin it first.

I see what you did there

I can’t imagine the DS engine being able to recreate the level of interactivity needed to capture Ultima 7. Hell, I’m skeptical about this Ultima 6 project.

I 4th your motion for a Betrayal at Krondor revamp.

And funny enough, there’s a Dungeon Siege bundle on sale right now at Amazon for $12:

US billing address may be needed, blah blah blah, all Steam, blah blah blah…
The individual Dungeon Siege games are also on sale (though by not as much).

@ Jack Dandy- RTS / ARPG mashup. The good bit is being able to slow down time. I think I played the whole of the original in gorgeous slomo, marvelling at all the shiny gfx. :)
04/02/2013 at 17:29 sibberke says:
If I recall correctly, you can’t slow down time in Dungeon Siege 1 (and from the screenshots, it is Dungeon Siege 1). If you can, I must be really stupid, as I haven’t seen it, unless it is hidden somewhere.
Btw, the combat is just: click on a enemy and your character(s) will attack. Depending on the way you’ve set them, they will also attack on themselves. The only thing you need to watch for is their health and mana.

You can’t slow down time. You can pause, though.
04/02/2013 at 18:27 Jack-Dandy says:
Pity, doesn’t sound like the game for me then.

This may be the right time to remind everyone that there is a Dungeon Siege remake of Ultima V. It’s called Ultima V Lazarus and is available in English, French and German.

I can’t believe this is still around! It must be at least 10 years since the first time I read about it.

it’s a shame it doesn’t have multiplayer. would love to experience ultima 6 with a friend.

Hooray finally some love for the greatest of all the Ultima games, yes the greatest of all the ultima games.
Most game journalists and fans alike rave about U7, giving it all the love and its like U6 doesn’t even exist.
Huzzah Ultima 6.
