More Videogames! GoD Factory: Wingmen

By Jim Rossignol on June 26th, 2013 at 10:00 am.

Quite how multiplayer space-combat dogfighters vs capital-ship game GoD Factory: Wingmen hasn’t raised the mere $70,000 Kickstarter ask is beyond me. Look at it! Great big mad spaceships all customisable and made out of colours and stuff. It reminds of crazy old 6DoF shooter Forsaken or something like that, only it’s about taking on squadrons of spaceships to blow up their base ship. They explain: “the players must destroy different key areas of the enemy Carrier to incapacitate it and ultimately destroy it. Destroying a Carrier part gives penalties to the enemy team, and each broken part inflicts a different penalty. The key to victory will be to work as a team and many weapons and abilities will have secondary uses that can only be triggered by joining up with other players.”

Go look, because I think this should probably happen.

And here’s a fancy spaceship wearing a top hat for some reason:

  1. Anguy says:

Looks pretty cool, I’ll think about backing it

  2. Simbosan says:

Could just play out as endless raid boss fights, which is fine if you love endless raid boss fights. Interesting idea though.

    • Kentauroi says:

Acutally the Carriers themselves fire at each other, so even if the players are locked in a stalemate the carriers will eventually finish the job. It’s been stated by the devs that no game can last more than 30 minutes because of the way it’s set up.

  3. Dermott says:

Would like to see this succeed! Backed it on the first day because it sounds promising – mixed a bit dota in space.
Germans can read a bit more about GoD here in german
Too sad they are only at 20k of 70k 30days into the campaign.

  4. kraken says:

The top hat might be a shoot-out to Totalbiscuit.
I know he covered/supported the game.

  5. FluffyPanda says:

Jim, you’re not fooling anyone. It’s the robot in the top hat that does it, isn’t it? ISN’T IT???

It could be about strawberry picking or working as a waiter and you’d still recommend it based on that last glimpse of of a sartorial automaton.

    Fortunately I agree.

  6. sabrage says:

It’s certainly attractive, but I’ve been burned by too many multiplayer games without the community to support them.

    • Apocalypse says:

Get two 4 – packs, and you are sure to have some sessions with your friends, at least if you have enough friends that like space sims and mobas

Anyway, if there are enough supporter for the game, than you have enough as well to support at least a small community to play with. And if not? Well, nothing lost in that case.

The concept at least sounds great to play on casual base, until star citizen is released, and even after that.

  7. P4p3Rc1iP says:

Sound really cool, but somehow I’m totally put off by the art direction :(

  8. Gap Gen says:

It’s nice to see a move to end discrimination against wingmen in games.

  9. Velko says:

    No monocle, no sale.

    • ninedotsGBV says:

It’s a custom vanity item, so you could actually commission to have a monocle made just for you! But to be honest, in the studio we joked about the Eve Online monocle too much to not make one available in the game. It will not be expensive :-P

  10. MeestaNob says:

The ‘space sim’ bit in ‘space sim moba’ sounded interesting.

  11. Cinek says:

4vs4 only? Rather disappointing ;/ especially when you control only fighters.
Besides that…. graphics are rather discouraging, but in general – idea behind the game is good. I only wish it wouldn’t look like a more flashy version of Unreal Tournament 2004.

  12. squareking says:

Looks a little like Skyjacker, which unfortunately wasn’t kickstarted.

  13. Runciter says:

    Multiplayer only? No thank you.
