So Dumb, So Great: Do Anything

By Nathan Grayson on July 20th, 2013 at 12:00 pm.

Yes, that is exactly who you think it is

Do Anything is so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so dumb.

And I love it.

Do Anything is a Molyjam Deux game inspired by the quote, “If you really were free to do anything in the world, I think you’d end up being confused, and that’s a very interesting point, a design point, actually.” So the idea (I think) is that the game enthusiastically pats you on the back for every minute shuffle of your feet, every dumb, pointless breath you draw. Also, there are acorns. Of course there are acorns.

To say much more would be to spoil the incredibly silly twists and turns Do Anything whiplashes its way into. Basically, it’s one big dumb joke, but it made me laugh a lot, so I’m writing about it. The art’s super terrible, the “message” is very surface-level, and there’s no real point to it. But who cares? It’s been a long week. For now, let’s just giggle at something together.

And yes, that’s the song from BrodyQuest.

I am not sure what is weirder. The game, or that they chose Unity to make it in. Nothing wrong with Unity, just did not expect it for a 2d game. :P

    • The Random One says:

There are lots of 2D games made in Unity, such as Thomas was Alone. But the fact remains weird, because this game could probably be made in AGS. Maybe they were going for dev chops.

    • Phasma Felis says:

Well, it was that or Flash, and Flash is godawful, so.
