Like A Rolling Stone: InFlux Rolling Out

Katamari dreamtime
Lovely roll-em-upper InFlux is ready to roll out, and you can help put it on Steam too. It must be lovely to be a ball. Imagine just rolling around in a paddling pool, for example. Or rolling down a grassy hill. Or bouncing gently down some steps. And in InFlux, you can do all of those things whilst solving physicsy puzzles! Just look at this trailer! Like a new Portal without the sarcastic narrator and well, less of the holes. Actually I don’t know why I brought Portal up. Perhaps I brought it up because it looks good. HERE IS THE TRAILER.

You are a mysterious metal sphere which falls from the sky, traversing an apparently deserted island dotted with cubic structures of glass and steel. Each glasshouse is a puzzle to be solved.

Impromptu Games promise us that we can meet “a majestic and enigmatic humpback whale” on our travels through mind-bending cubic puzzle structures and super-relaxing natural-looking environments. What a sweet deal! A humpback whale? I have always wanted to roll on a humpback whale.

It all has a lovely soundtrack by a man called Jonathan Yandel.

This is how Impromptu Games roll. No DRM on it, and you can put as many videos on Youtube of you rolling about like a Katamari nightmare as you please. You can Greenlight it here, and buy it from GoG.com.

Will we be able to mod in the Mophsphere model and imageine it’s a Metroid game where Samus is stuck in morphsphere mode?

This is my new stress toy.

    This is my new toy.

It got released on GOG yesterday, leaving me a bit shocked I’d never even heard of it before.
Looks beautiful and intriguing, and it’s 10% off for the first week… Quick, we need a “WOT I Think” of this one while the promo lasts! :P

Or being kicked around for an hour and a half? Because that doesn’t sound so great!

It’s sad that no one ever remembers The Ball (with the possible exception of Impromptu Games, judging by the appearances). Played like a mixture of Portal and Serious Sam with an atmosphere that reminded me of the original Unreal (in a good way). Check it out in the next Steam sale people!

I for one, remember The Ball quite fondly. Well, except the combat sections, which I hated. But the puzzle stuff, fond memories I say!

Hmm, this looks oddly similar to something a former classmate has been working on…

GoG link is broken, links to the game’s website.
Looks like a nice relaxing game.

Oooh, instabuy. Been waiting for this for a while!

This is by the same people who made the excellent Shotgun Sunrise, worked on the sadly-discontinued Velociraptor Job Interview Simulator Pro, and brought Gabe Newell to Australia.

  12. BTAxis says:

Know what this made me think of? Sonic the Hedgehog. In a good way.

the post–steam sale guilt I felt after buying this was ridiculous! great to see something so neat coming from australia

I looks a bit like Bounce Evolution. A tech demo of a Rovio game, that was on the N900 and was just as Rovio went Angry Birds crazy.

  15. Tinotoin says:

Got this and played for a few hours last night and was verily impressed. I sent an email off to the developers with my praise for the game, and also a couple of pieces of constructive feedback (I hope).

Within half an hour they’d got back to me with a response and I have to say they seem like thoroughly nice chaps!

Always makes me happier when I’ve given my money to nice folk :)

  16. Cunning Linguist says:

Looks good and the devs are cool.

  17. Wedge says:

Makes me remember this one lovely UT2k4 mod that was all about rolling a sphere around and doing puzzly bits. Was gonna be a sequel in UE3, but that didn’t last long. This is UE3 too though, so I’ll take it as a successor.

  18. The Random One says:

Looks like a Metroidvania Marble Madness… mmmmmm.

  19. seanminty says:

Looks like Switchball with less narrow maps. Switchball was good fun.

  20. Branthog says:

I think I’ll wait for this to pop up on Steam.
