RPS Xmas Compo: Custom-Cooled Sapphire Radeon 290

By Jeremy Laird on December 19th, 2013 at 8:00 pm.

What do points mean?

Becoming blasé about big money graphics boards is something of an occupational hazard for a tech hack. Actually, all-too-easy access to that kind of kit can make one complacent in all kinds of unpredictable ways. For instance, why, oh why, didn’t I mine bitcoins with all those high-end GPU samples when I had the chance? But I digress. The point I’m trying to make is that pulling the trigger on the latest and greatest graphics is hardly a given for most of us. But one of you won’t have to worry about that, because we’re giving away what could well prove to be the best all-round pixel pumper on the market. An AMD Radeon R9 290 with Sapphire’s custom Tri-X cooling.

Last time around, a few of you felt a little put out by the sudden arrival of the gaming rig give away. No such excuses this year. Tune your browsers to RPS exactly one week today and you’ll have your chance to win the Sapphire 290 and make 2014 a damn fine year for gaming. This time I’m giving you plenty of heads up.

Just like last year, it’ll be fingers on buzzers. The first correct answer to my Yuletide riddle takes the booty. So don’t forget to spool up RPS on the 27th 26th and hammer that F5 button with grim determination!

In the meantime, I shall spend the holidays sobbing into a pile of obsolete GPUs dreaming of cryptocurrency riches that might have been.

Apologies – I meant the 26th. Carry on!

If memory serves, most of the previous contests have excluded the colonies from participation, obviously due to the long sailing voyage across vast oceans and the inevitable obsolesce the hardware will have by the time it reaches the shores of the new world.

  3. BTAxis says:

Judging by last year’s riddles I don’t know nearly enough about video cards to have a shot at this. I’ll just have to hope my ol’ GTX480 will handle whatever I throw at it for a while longer. Love the initiative though!

  4. Paul says:

Yeah this is a card I am thinking of buying – getting it from RPS would be vastly preferable!
